  1. Would totally buy it if it were anywhere near me... Although floors are probably... wholesome. Some holes here some there.

Go for it! The 260 I had when I was living in the bay area was a trooper, cost me $600 I think. Did the carb conversion, ran like a dream, never gave me any probs, and I made money on it when I sold it. Great value! (loose the bumpers though)

Great thread, Always keen on the early history of the Z. While I love the Z's to death, I am guilty of owning its mentioned rivals including 2 944's and 2 Alfa GTV's, and borrowed a first gen RX7 from one of my friends back in day. While I loathe the Porsche 'yuppiness' as mentioned, the engineering is phenomenal, and I can say that 944's would easily handle any corner better than the 240Z. Before the wrath comes, I know there is a difference of some 10 years in engineering progress, sits lower, etc so kind of hard to compare. However, and I hate to say it, the confidence in 944 supersedes. Cant speak for 911's. The Alfa's were really good too. A real drivers car. Reliability....errr. But in a racetrack setting I think the two would match up well. Again in bone stock formats. The Alfa had the twin cam four with twin delottos, so the power difference shouldn't be too bad... The Rx7 is a little beastie too. My friend had constant problems with the seals I think it was and they go through gas like its nothing. Contender on the track maybe, but not a nemesis. Just my experiences. But would take a Z any day. :D

Good form, Grnsky would settle for nothing less than a leaf green 240z, and would have been beating down the doors of your dealership every darn day wanting to know where it was. In fact, tell me where it is, I will get it myself!

Rick, Sorry to stir up memories, Very sad. But it was the green that got me so interested as I hardly ever see the color scheme for sale. Next thing you know I am on a plane bound for SF, The condition of the car was the added bonus:D:D which put me over the line in a puddle of my own drool! Interesting that you say they didnt sell well, I figured they would have been all the rage back then, greens, purpules, oranges etc.

I'm the same way, I will take 70-73, doesnt matter to me, and 74. But thats where the love stops! I dont care much for the build dates, vins, etc. Just love the Z. (No offense to the purists) Vin for those interested: HLS30145702

Hey, Been almost a year since my last Z, was a 260, awesome, but couldnt keep all three cars at the time. That was my 4th Z, Anyway I finally found my dream Z, Bought it just a couple of days ago, and love it all over. Cant beat the 70's green. But was so excited I probably didnt realize what a gem I'd found til after I drove it back, and got my thoughts together. Here are the stats: 7/73 Almost 44K orig miles. (odo hasnt been around again) You can tell by the condition, and feel of the car. Matching eng numbers, original flat top carbs, etc. Orig tan interior, original carpets, not torn at all, just dry and crunchy! 4spd orig box with the original clutch apparently. Rubber seals are all in good, shape too. No 'cliff hangers' Original paint. No cracks, touch ups, or resprays at all, or fender benders. Coulple of dings on the drivers door but you cant tell as they're not that bad. Front bumper has a ding also. but again nothing major. 1 dash crack Everything works, Minor surface rust in the battery tray underneath. Straight undercarrige with a bit of flaking, but no holes or rot. Does have a different exhaust, makes it sound much better. But thats the only mod I can find. Also has the orig radio. So am really happy with my find. Havent been on the site for awhile, but thought I would see about what the consensus was: Carb conversion: I have webbers, and round tops, that came with the car. As I mentioned it has the dreaded flat tops which are running way too rich at the moment and flood the engine out at iddle. I’ve done the round top conversion before on my 260 but wanted to see about giving the webbers a shot. My old man is all for them, but I am thinking they use alot of gas and are better serving on the track, rather than just running around town, etc, which the car will be used for. Otherwise will just slap on the round tops, which is what I was planning. Value: What do we think the car is actually worth? Thanks in advance
  12. Good point Sblake, Will create another thread.
