Have just come back from my local Nissan dealer who has informed me that there are no fuel pumps in Oz for the L26 motor. I called into a local parts dealer and he had one that looked the same but it was for a 240C motor. My question is, is this the same pump as it looks the same but there is no part numbers on it except the after market number. It was made by a company called "Something Enkico?". I am mainly worried about fuel delivery hence my question as the 240C came with one carby as opposed to dual carbys on the Z car. Any clues out there???

I have just come back from my friendly Nissan dealer who has informed me that there are no fuel pumps availalbe in Oz for a L26 motor. As an off chance, I paid a visit to a local parts dealer who only has a fuel pump for the 240C motor. The parts book he was looking at did not have a Z car listed. The pump looked pretty much the same but did not have a part number on it. It was made by a company called "Something Enekio??" Does anyone know if the 240C pump is the same as the Z motor. Mainly worried about fuel volume being delivered:ermm:

Mr Blundell In many years to come they will look at the record book and see that Biker beat Yellow 240Z by a big margin!!! They will then surmise that the green Z must have been better tuned than the yellow one!! Great photo - where did you get the digital version???

I had the same thing done as well and put in a mild cam. My mechanic told me to leave the settings as they are as according to the manual. The worst problem your going to have with running lean is the potential to burn a hole through the piston. Pull out the plugs and check how they are burning. If they are grey, boost up the fuel by half a turn and then take it for a run. Then check them again. The front carby is feeding 1,2,3 pistons and the back carby is feeding 4,5 and 6. (That is if you are running twin carby's) You adjust the fuel mixture by turning the nut out which is at the bottom of the SU Carb. You need to get all the plugs running at a light tan colour. Black is too rich, gey is too lean.

I will 2nd Rick's comments as well!!! I have concentrated on the handling and can keep up with some of the big boys. Kill me in the straight but can catch them in the twisties. I have put on better springs, bracing front and back, some decent shocks and away I go. I am now starting to look for some horses and have wacked in a cam and headers, lightened the flywheel and a heavier clutch. Motor is still a stock 2600. After blowing up 2nd gear syncro (suprise suprise), have had that fixed, am now looking for mucking around with the camber and toe in to stop the oversteer. The car weighs 1046kgms but not sure how many horses its getting. For the money that you can buy one of these, its hard to beat the value. I looked at MG, Alpha and a few others to run in historics. I have great hope of going quicker (if i can lay my hands on some bucks) as a recent hill climb saw a couple of 240z's run 4th and 6th overall out of 140 cars which included F3000's WRx, EvoIV's, and so on and so on.

Where are you located???? No point pondering a swap if you are a million miles away.:classic:
  7. There must be confusion about the type of pump you have got. Lots of people have gone over to electrical. I have a mechanical pump on the block which runs off the camshaft lobe. Inside of this is a diaphram. A quick check is to disconnet the inlet hose to the pump and tunr over the motor. You should be able to feel some strong suction. If not there are chances that the diaphram could be rats.

I noticed on a website here in Aus that a bloke was flogging a couple of 240Z mirrors he said he picked in Japan in 1997. The for sale was date 1 October 2002 and you never know he may still have them. He mentions that they were optional extra from the catalog of the Z. He was based in Melbourne. I have attached a picture of these

I am currently running a set of Hitachi Round Tops on a L26 with extractors, sports filter and mid range camshaft and have heard lots of arguments over the needle types from grinding to replacing. My question is how do you tell what type of needles are in the current carbys and secondly I have heard that the N54 needle is the best for increased richness/Horsepower given that I am fanging the hell out of the car around a track most times. :sleepy:

Thanks very much Guys!!! Seen the photo and next thing you know I am out there in the garage. The carbs currently look ok with hand polishing (using the Autosol) so I decided to attack the rocker cover. I was buggered by the end of the day as had to prepare the car as well for a weekend race!

When I was young I had problems telling the time. It appears that this problem still exists not knowing my clockwise to anit clockwise. I went out to do the valves on Friday arvo in preparation for a weekend hillclimb. Then I noticed the the rotor goes anti clockwise. I now know why I have the manual close at hand whilst doing work on the Z. PS The hillclimb that I was at had a Z car come 2nd overall out of 135 entries including open wheelers, Mustangs, 7 litre fords, WRX and Evo5's. The guy flys, wish I had some of his componentry and a dash of his skill. The onylthing that could outdo him was a rotary in a 25kg frame! Biker

There has been a new magazine released in Australia which concentrates on the base level of motor racing for a change. This is something that has been sadly lacking in Australia of late. Why am I telling the Z guys this? It is because there are a number of Aussie Z's shown in it going through their paces (including mine!) If you are interested in general about car club circuit racing this is worth a look. The site is http://www.sports-racer.com/motorsport.html

Has anyone found a spot to stick the breather pipe from the rocker cover instead of having it go into the air cleaner. Have changed over my air cleaner to sports filters and now am trying to work out where I can shove a tank and the pipe. Also, are there any ideas on where the carby breathers on the round tops which also go to the air cleaner can go?

Hey dohc Hope you are not dsylexic but you have got the firing order quoted wrong. My memory serves me as the order is 153624, not as you quoted earlier as 531624 Foolish me also once had the wires in backwards on the dizz and running anti clockwise. Took me an hour to realise that the rotor in the carby runs clockwise menaing that everything was out of whack

By the looks of it you are pretty frustrated all hte options with electricals. I was playting around with the carbs last week and accidently blocked off the vents. Try checking the following: Plenty of air getting through to the throats such as clean filter, no blockage to carby. Are the breathers on top of the carby clear (definitely required on Round Tops) Next port of call would be the valves if you are sure that you are getting spark to the plugs. (Taken one out and had a look while turning the motor over?)

Great - many thanks for your email. Punching them out on the colour printer as we speak. Original colour of my machine appears to be Green Metallic.

Many thanks for the quick and detailed response for the Oz info. Finally got up off the floor and back into the chair after reading the costs involved though.

What Toyota 4WD did you get the calipers off (eg Fourrunner). We like to call our 4WD different things in Oz as opposed to USA. Is there anymore floating around from where you got yours. Be interested in costs and any other associated problems that you had.:classic:

Drop into any BMW motorcycle shop and they will have dozens of Bings. The bing carby was used on BMW motorcycles since Adam was a boy. Simple design using diaphram system with plunger/needle setup. Never seen anyone attempt to use them on a car though.
