    i have it just around 5 BTDC the engine revved up nice and smooth. when i drove it around the few times revved it high a couple times but not constantly up past 6000 for more then a couple of seconds. when it did blow or crack it was late at night getting pizza with a buddy it was running fine but the water temp kept rising, i was about a minute away when the gauge was maxed out stopped there for a while to cool off the motor and wen i started it back up there was a whole bunch of white smoke. im thinkin that my thermostat got stuck cuz it did that to me once a while ago but i pulled over and started it back up about 30mins later and it was all fine. i got a whole bunch of gaskets n a new thermstat comming in so i can go to the hobby shop this weekend.

    i think im gonna get a new system soon or rebuild it. i was in the process of fine tuning it and blew the head gasket. how much advance do you guys usually have it for stock engine? hopefully the parts get in before this weekend

    just curious about the aftermarket ignition systems are they that much of a benefit in the L24s??

    yup gonna go to my sgts house sometime soon hes a very good mechanic and gots all the tools ever needed.

    i took a cc brush and cleaned the distributor and i found the timing all the way retarded which im pretty sure it aint supposed to be like that, i dont where how much to advance it but i have it half way and it doesnt sputter anymore and goes pretty close to 7 grand

    Everything on the car is the is still original except it has a 5spd instead of the 4, i'm pretty sure the attachment pic i got is the same kinda carb. I think its a mechanical fuel pump but i'm not sure, how can i find out? I'm super new to the whole datsun thing but i been reading through tons of threads trying to learn as much as i can but i know a whole bunch of you guys are crazy experts. i don't know who rebuilt the engine but if the cam is off by 1 or 2 teeth can advance or retard the timing it get it in sync or does that not matter? 1. The ceiling is in neutral and all gears. 2. Its a little worse when under a heavy load. 3. It still does it 4. fuel filter is in okay shape ill get a new one this weekend. 5. The ignition system is in good shape. Thanks for all this help

    Sorry about that Its a 70 L24, i got the 240 about a month ago and haven't been able to drive it much but every time that i had, in every gear when it starts to rev a little past 5000 it sputters, losses all power and probably wont go past 5500. Its not burning oil and the motor and carb was rebuilt a few years ago. ill have time this weekend to check the spark plugs for what the mixture is but i just wanted to see what you guys thought before then.
