  1. by h4 you mean the newer non sealed ones correct? I bought some high output sealed headlights(wanted to stay with the original look even though I bet the h4's are much better) and my new bulbs did not come with the rubber pieces. perhaps I should take a ride to summit racing, they seem to have everything and anything

Thanks guys I sure hope I don't get any cracks. The resin is pretty thick and the topcoat has alot of flex in it so I will just tighten her down and pray for the best. I was a bit rough with it after the resin dried and it was quite durable. Was only about 40 in supplies so I think it was definitely worth a try.
  3. Apreciate the help guys just checked my 1992 vw cabriolet (wifes toy)and it has the rubber caps so I am going to call the vw dealer tomorrow and try my luck.
  4. When I broke my car down there was a rubber cap on the rear of one of my headlight bulbs but not the other. It was between the plug and the light with the 3 prongs going through it to form a nice seal and protect the prongs from water. I can not find one of these at any auto parts store or at MSA or Black Dragon. I know other cars use these so I don't think it is a Z specific part but could someone steer me in the right direction?
  5. can anyone identify this part, it may have been just floating around my shop because I can not for the life of me figure out where it goes http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-30_08-48-52_745.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-30_08-48-42_831.jpg

Ok well I had 2 nasty canyons in my dash along with other minor cracks all over the top of my dash(1971 Series 1 240z). Since the dash is out of the car I decided I would try to fix it and in the worst case would just buy a dash cap... http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-25_16-12-05_357.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-25_16-12-10_874.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-25_16-12-26_655.jpg well first i sanded down the cracks and made them a little deeper and wider, next I filled them with some of that great stuff home insulation stuff, then I coated the whole top with fiberglass resin with no fibers and lastly the next day I used some metal filler to smooth out the small holes dents and stuff. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-26_09-16-33_939.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-26_09-16-33_939.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-26_09-16-33_939.jpg Then it was a bunch of sanding with the orbital sander and hand sanding in the curvy areas and trying to feather in the edges best I could. The next day I scuffed the whole dash with a scotch brite pad and did a few coats of adhesive promoter followed by many coats of SEM Textured bumper dash paint, when it was fully dry the next day I scuffed it down with a scotch brits pad and finally I used many coats of SEM Colorcoat Satin black to match the rest of my interior plastic. Here is what she looks like now. Not perfect but very good results and the average person would think it is a stock dash. I am pretty confident that it will hold up to everyday use, only time will tell http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-30_15-28-52_372.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_08-08-22_164.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_08-08-27_846.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_09-40-12_781.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_09-40-05_966.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_09-39-59_343.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_09-39-52_584.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_09-39-47_396.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/youngkal/2012-01-31_09-39-34_692.jpg

Well I set up an appointment for them to replace the windshield in my wifes toy(1992 VW Cabriolet) which is another windshield that alot of other shops do not want to touch. They are charging 219.80 for the windshield installed and a extra $35 if they have to replace the molding. I asked if there were any other charges that I have seen on other windshield sites (service fee, disposal fee, etc) and she said no so I will be crossing my fingers and if all works out I will order my gasket from MSA and get the glass from them. I read a ton of threads about the windshield install on a Z and it seems if you follow the directions with the dash out it should be ok...wish me luck

Do you have the phone number for windshields to go in norcross? Seems like their website Is down. What was the process in ordering it?

Going to give Eddie a call tomorrow. Maybe he can order one andinstallit for me. Itis def going to need a new gasket since I cut the old rotted one out, black dragon has the gasket for 37.99. I have heard of safelite doing it in other parts of the country but the contractor they use around here won't touch it. I am waiting for a callback from bullseye glass

I called around a bit for windshield price and install price and none seems to want to touch my exotic old car...It is pretty frustrating since satellite online quoted me $300 installed and then the local shop they sub through said they won't touch my car. Does anyone know of a shop around the Atlanta area who one can get the windshields(reproduction I assume) and two will install it in my car?
  11. $300 different
  12. that place is great, the parts guy was very nice and helpfull. he actually pulled the part and described it to me to make sure it was correct
  13. ok ordered the plugs hope they are correct. I will let you know. From what I have read these are only on early 240 because the latter years switched to plastic clips with no receivers.
  14. I will give it a shot. .37 beats .89 all day long.
  15. The clips are the metal ones that clip the door panals to the actual doors the plastic parts are the pieces that receive these clips. Here is a link to the part on MSA website. just realized msa wants 1.45 per clip and .89 for each receiver...perhaps I should see if eddie has some used ones to sell http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/SIC08A
  16. well i count 11 on each door and 6 on each dogleg...anyone know of any other places they are used?
  17. My bad thoughti put this in open discussion. This is by no means a emergency.
  18. I hear re chrominance plastic is very expensive. I came across a high end chrome paint online that may look good or a silver paint with alot of metal flake may look good
  19. Ok well most of my metal work is done and after she is painted and sound proofed I guess I will have to put her back together. I have all of my big bits and pieces but was wondering if someone knew how many small metal clips and plastic receivers I will need for the door panels and other parts that use them(I am pretty sure the inner dog legs use them also). I need a count on those and also wanted to know if anyone knew of a video or step by step picture directions to putting the window and lock mech back in the doors?
  20. i spent last weekend drilling out a few broken bolts on my z and found that a torch was my best friend
  21. Which vents and what kind of shape is the chrome in?
  22. My guess and it is just a guess is there may be a few wires you may need to jump to complete circuits
  23. incase anyone needs to know in the future Rock Auto has them listed as the same part number. so i am going to give it a shot when i get her back together
  24. ok my 71 has a metal cooling fan and I would like to replace it with a plastic one from a later year z. I know earlier Z and ZX ones are interchangable but am not sure If I can use the fan and clutch out of a 86 300zx. Has anyone done this or know the answer. As far as I can see it will bolt right up and fit fine in the space but I just want to make sure it does what it is suposed to do...
  25. congrats...kind of a sad way to get the car and all but im sure you will make your friend proud
