  1. First, the alternator will put out 18V+ AC at full field. The regulator converts the AC voltage to DC voltage and regulates the voltage to around 14 volts max. Second, pull the plugs one at a time. Third, wire in a cheap voltage gauge under the hood, across the battery terminals so you can rev the motor and watch what the charging system is doing. Fourth, Fusable links are modified fuses built into the wiring harness as a last resort failsafe. You have to really screw up or have a dead short to pop one, the links aren't your problem, they would have the effect of no voltage as opposed to high voltage. Just because a part is new doesn't mean it is good, take the alternator to a shop and have it tested if it makes you feel better, but I still think your regulator is shot, a bad externally regulated alternator will usually show low or no voltage.
  2. I hate to say it, no difference, just waisted a hundred bucks........................
  3. Got the Ram Pipes, bolted them up and gave it a whirl. The car has been sitting for 10 hours + since I got to the shop this morning, and although it was a warm day for this time of the year it is still cool 50 degrees now. Turned the key and the car fired as it always does but didn't start, on the second turn of the key it cranked for one to two seconds and started (was taking 5 or 6 seconds). The idle on a cold start is rough for a minimum of 30 seconds before the pipes went on, now it is like 15 seconds. Now I know this is the first time starting with the pipes, and is likely to be a fluke due to the warm weather we had today, and I don't make rush judgements based on this tiny bit of information. BUT, the temp is going to be around freezing tonight, and if tomorrow mornings startup is like this evenings was, I'm going to call this idea a home run. I'll report back in the AM on the starting issue and let you all know what difference I feel on the drivability front.
  4. You can ask whatever you want, but you might get smacked in the mouth for it. Honey, can I have a...............
  5. Check the sprung washers as well.
  6. Looks loke someone shrunk a Rolls Royce.
  7. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150767687001&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 I know alot of you are looking AFR gauges, this one has been relisted at least 4 times, no bids, could be someones huckelberry.
  8. The snap on link is the right idea, but I don't like the idea of having a bump in the carpet advertising there may be a compartment there, aside from the fact that you could grab it with a pair of channel dogs. The Lock Smith was where I was headded in the first place, just fishing for someone that has had the same plan. Thanks guys.
  9. I know both the "Iron Sheik" and Nicoli Volekove, They both live less than a mile from my old house, nice fellas. The Sheik is Greek and the Crazy Russian is polish, go figure.
  10. Ahhh yessss. Gotta love the cloud of green house gasses. You da man B&G.
  11. Race on sunday, sell on monday wasn't forgotten, it was taken away as far as NASCAR goes, the local Nissan dealership has their factory racing program calender hanging in the showroom.
  12. Zed Head nailed it, I just looked in my retired parts box and there it was, labled "coil bracket" on the terminal side. Good one.
  13. 1969 Torino GT big block, had a poster of that car in my garage years ago.
  14. There are a few cars out there that COULD do it, And yes, you would likely have to rebuild the engine after 500 miles like the NASCAR folks do. And yes, the street car is cheaper to buy. My brothers AMG Hammer comes to mind, and it has leather seats and a cup holder.
  15. Wrong side of the car, the light is on the side opposite the coil. Mine was wired to the coil, don't remember where, but the electronic ignition dosn't require the condensers.
  16. First, I shoot in tactical handgun competitions and have turned the two compartments behind the seats of my 240 into one pistol box and one ammo box using foam and felt linings. I would now like to install some locks in the lids, has anyone out there done this without having to weld "D rings" or other lock slug hardware in the lids? If so, where did you get the locks?
  17. Sort of like the 69 Daytona starting line up in the B&G man's video post, real live stock cars racing against eachother and the clock. When men were men and a sport started by bootleggers could still be owned by a tobbacco company. PC is killing this country, (not meant as a political statement, a simple observation......so don't spank me)
  18. The shoes have a bunch of play and movement in them, turn your radio up and ride on.
  19. Did you check the drums for roundness?
  20. Blow the motor off with a good leaf blower, NOT COMPRESSED AIR as that can cause a host of problems, after an engine bay dousch. You likely got some water in an electrical connection or somewhere else it dosn't belong. Also, pressure washers are a no no, they can blow gaskets and all kinds of other damage. What year and model, that info could get you better more specific things to check.
  21. My 73 came stock with a 30 amp alt, the IR 60 made the car much more reliable and drivable after dark. FWIW
  22. Yea, NASCAR lost me decades ago with the restricted horse power and "all things being equal and safe" mentality. Just because you build a car that can go 300 MPH, dosn't mean the driver will go balls to the walls and kill himself. I think they should return to the "race your brand days" when Petty was the king, and it was all about who could build the best car and handel that car in that type of racing. Not just anyone could have had that title if they were driving a beast like the old Dodge Hemmi. The other brands and teams crying "Thats not fair" got us where we are (like so many other things in the world) I say victory to the strongest, THE RUDE DOG GETS THE BIG BONE and let the puppies and kittens stay on the porch!
  23. It's amazing how safe you feel behind the wheel when you can actually see the road, I didn't go projector but relays and halogens sure beat the 5 candel power highbeams I started with.
  24. I would also go for the regolator eliminator plug, saves a bunch of work and headachs, like frying the diods in a new alt that you are buying from over 1000 miles away. Call me crazy, but I think it would be worth every penny.
