  1. 4 hours, you can get the auto train in Baltimore if they don't load in Philly, thats only like 2 hours away. I would go over the whole car carefully before doing a 4 hour road trip in a car you don't know. You can also have the car trucked down to FLA relatively cheaply, lots of haulers running I95.
  2. I just surfed ebay an hour ago, 2 pages of Datsuns up for sale, a buyers market.
  3. Ya know, thats a loaded question, body shops on the east coast are dying for work rite now, what with the economy in the tank and the mild winter. So you could get it done for a great price as the owners are trying to get any job in the shop just to pay the bills. I couldn't even ball park it without seeing the extent of the damage
  4. Seems high to me, but I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to buying cars. I would think the significant rust thing makes it a non starter at that price, but you can always come down. The thing about cars like this is the excitement buyers get when they are standing in front of it, the money burns a hole in their pocket. The trick is to get them to the car. $6000 and "significant rust" and the lack of pictures of said rust is a bad combo, people won't come to see it. Also, get rid of the 200, 300K + mile line, that will scare off most folks, save that for the face to face conversation.
  5. I think the reason this thread isn't drawing much attention is the east coast thing. There simply aren't that many S30's around here. The Carliles events are known for American muscle, not so much for the import croud, but that is changing as time passes.
  6. see post #53, 4 hours ago, looks like he gets to match the top offer or something.
  7. If this is the case, there is a problem, the owner should always get first right of refusal on the buy back.
  8. Back in the day I recall side pipes for the S30's. Anyone know who made or makes them. Or, does anyone have pics of these parts, for reconstruction purposes?
  9. If they start making the S30 again, I'll buy one and have it shipped into the USA, listening Datsun..............
  10. Check the points for oxidization or carbon buildup, if they don't look rite replace them. Also replace the condensor(s) at the points and at the coil if you have one there.
  11. I had the same issue, deleted the valve and the flow was restored.
  12. I was listening to a talk radio show on the way in to the shop this AM, the guts of the report was that Datsun is to go after the "entry level inexpensive sports/ compact market". The long term plan is to expand the world market of the Datsun brand, but "Sadly, the restrictive regulatory enviornment of the North American market will prohibit the sale of the cars Datsun plans to produce." They went on to discuss the crash testing regs of the USA.
  13. I'll be intrested to see if that front suspension and narrow profile steering tires aren't more of a liability than they think. It might be able to go without fuel, but I see a few extra tire changes durring the race, we shall see.
  14. You could install a second fan in addition to the stock fan and power it off the AC compressor circuit via a relay, that way you don't compromise the cooling system.
  15. I'm not trying to steer you away from an electric fan, if you go that way buy the best fan and controlls that money can buy. I say this because I have to put a new head on my Toyota because the fan quit working which lead to a blown head gasket and a severly warped head. So whichever way you go, buy the best and rest easy.
  16. I, generally speaking, don't take parts to a parts salesman to have them tested to see if a replacement is in order. I will however say, that I do think he has a charging system problem, and I hope the alternator solves his problem.
  17. Passed mid point + at like 5:30 or 5:35 or mid point + side like 4:00 or 4:30? I would check batt voltage, when off, when running and when running with lights and blower running. Too much voltage can make the car do strange things, depending on how the car is equipped, ignition system and the like.
  18. Do a charging system check up, it ain't vapor locking in the 70 degree range. I say charging system because of the death of the battery.
  19. You should get a positive I.D. on that 5 speed first. The 240's are stock 4 speeds. FWIW.........
  20. That is a good tactic when you are on the selling end. I see you are searching Cali cars, so you are willing to ship or travel to get what you want. If that is the case, you should be able to hold out and get what you want for the rite money, just saying, none of these jump out at me after seeing what you just lost. They will disapoint you.
  21. Just clearifing, good to know the watchdogs have their noses on the scent of $#!+ deals around here. Should be, if nothing else, a good reason to look here prior to making a buy. You just might save yourself from making a big mistake. I wonder if the buyer will pop up here any time soon.
  22. I'm not a fan of any of these cars for one reason or another, price mostly on the first two, the copper car is a bondo queen from the pics amoung other things.
  23. mikrosa, am I to understand you know that guy and the car?
  24. Bonzi, I had the same problem on my 73. I taped a shop vac hose to the intake and surged the vac by opening and closing the interior controle. Worked like a champ.
