  1. A quick and easy test, put a plug in the master cylinder output fitting and see if you can depress the peddal, it should not go to the floor. DO NOT put too much pressure on the peddal or you will blow a good gylinder.
  2. So are picks of the recoverd seats available yet?
  3. Jack up your rear end in nutral and see if the tires spin freely, do the same on the front to see if you have a locked up brake or something going on.
  4. I'm happy with the coilovers, the rears wernt too bad to do. The motor looks good.
  5. I know that streatch of 50 well, excelent idea of scoping the road out for troopers before doing 110 MPH in that area. Car sounds and runs great! BTW Mike, is that the stretch I passed you on last summer?
  6. Harder to get into gear as in more pressure required at the shifter or are the gears grinding? Having to bully the shifter into gear could mean low tranny lube or bent forks. Grinding on the other hand would point to the clutch not disengaging fully. Does the car creep with the clutch depressed at a stand still when in gear? Again that would be the clutch. If by "shaking real bad" you mean the car is learching or lunging, I would agree with Walter and get the mixture rite first.
  7. Ya know, a while back I had a PM exchange with EScanlon after getting a demerit over a post, I can't remember what the infraction was, political or something. Anyway, the point being, I promised to keep with the spirit of the site and "keep it car" in my posts, this is after all an "S30 tech" site at its heart. We ask each other to share knowledge and experience when taking on projects or tackling problems we face with our S30's, and I like to think I have something to contribute in this regard. I know that I have learned a lot from others here, both in a technical sense and in regards to my posting demeanor. To put it bluntly, when I first came to this site, I acted like an a$$hole and pissed a bunch of people off. I have since TRIED to keep my posts light hearted and informative, even if I need to be corrected at times. I HOPE that I have redeemed myself with those that I have offended and have been removed from their ignore lists and maybe even gained some respect in the process. That said, and in all fairness, this being an opinion pole/ thread, it is my OPPINION that a V8 Z has little in common technically with an S30. I’m sure that the “Z-VETTE” looks like a Z and turns heads and all. I’m sure that it is impressive to the masses at the car shows and all, but just because it looks like a duck doesn’t make it a duck. It no longer quacks like a duck, missing the sweet song of the inline 6, it doesn’t walk like a duck anymore with the new power train. So, in short it ain’t a duck no more. Thanks for letting me have feelings and an opinion here OJ, I appreciate it.
  8. Turd, turdy, beater, POS.......Not much difference IMHO. Most of the beaters you posted are far better starting point projects than I'm working with, does my heart good to know that once my car is finished I can sell it to someone like you that will treat it like a beater or TURDYMOBILE, TURD being the operative. I like my fish heads Lee.
  9. More like a bunch of 5th graders in an unsupervised game of dodge ball. Some trying to prove something or convince others to see things their way, others dismissing that point of view. OJ, between the $50K remark and the thread about the TURDMOBILE featuring cars that are in great original condition, well lits just say you aren't making a bunch of friends with that kind of stuff. You sound like the spoiled little rich kid picking on the kids that are wearing fish heads to gym class. Just saying.
  10. What type of pump are you running? A thumper pump that puts out 30 PSI?!? (some)Thumpers can run with + & - reversed.
  11. Back in the 80's I built a 73 Pinto, when I was done with it it was sporting a 351 Cleveland 4BBL with 4BBl heads and 4 bolt main, and a Borg Warner 5 speed pushing a 9 inch rear with 4.56 gears. There was very little "Pinto" left of the original car that I drove into my shop to start with. But on the bright side, it did have "MORE POWER".
  12. http://www.speedhunters.com/2012/08/...-shakotan-s30/ Stolen from another thread started by Idaho Kid. This is a perfect example of body mods gone too far IMHO.
  13. Let me be specific on what I was looking to do by adding these. 1) get rid of the soft stock springs that were causing tire rubbing and body roll. They fixed both. 2) have the ability to adjust my ride height down slightly to close the gaps at the wheel/ fender opening. This remains to be seen, but from what I'm seeing after driving it for a few hundred miles, I think the 3/4 inch drop I'm looking for is gonna work just fine. 3) get a stiffer ride, but not brutal. So far so good. I didnt consider the struts not being able to handel the recoil, but I'm going to keep an eye on that as you pointed out.
  14. You could actually drop the car over 2 inches from the stock ride height with these coilovers, I personally won't go over 1 inch down for street use, but if I was on a track where potholes and debries weren't an issue I would go much lower. Also there are many different spring options available through Pegasus and the like so I could fine tune the ride if I need to. I went into this with the attitude that its a "BEGINNER" kit. If I found that it was a mistake I could go in another direction and not get hurt as bad as if I would have gone all out and bought the GC kit. To Johns point, If I had went with the GC's, and didn't section the struts, I wouldn't get any more lowering ability without buying a shorter spring. You still have the ability to slam the car with this kit by removing the stock perch and sectioning the strut, adding the steel ring for the coilover to rest on and getting a different spring and strut. They will basically be the exact same setup as the GC's at that point. Not having had personal hands on experience with coilovers, or the benefit of a friend who could give me his in person testimonial, I thought this was the best route to take. FWIW.
  15. Thats what sold me on these, If I didn't like them, I could go back to a "stock" spring set up easily.
  16. Hey Mike, total cost, off the top of my head, would be $600 to $650 for the coilovers and struts on all 4 corners. I'm going to start adjusting the ride height (lower) this week if I can find the time, the more I drive the car, the more I like this set up.
  17. My Z is pulling daily driver duty for now, the paint is trashed, there are patches of spray bomb primer all over it and in general the car is not "complete". It looks like the work in progress that it is. That said, 99% of the time I stop at a public place I get some sort of positive comment about the car. I'm constantly getting horn beeps and the old thumbs up at traffic lights and stop signs. At least once a day I get someone saying "don't see them cars around any more" or the like. It's a very common thing to walk out of a store and find people doing walk arounds on the car, even found a guy crawling under her before. And like I said, she is a little rough still. So, you don't need to have shiney brakes or a corvette motor to get attention, I actually get more than I like. It ain't a pissing contest, it's an oppinion thread.
  18. Relax OJ, we know you have a hybird show car and we all drive Z turds. But for the most part we built ours.
  19. Slight body mods are ok, a scoop, some spoilers and flairs and shaved bumpers add to the cars lines. Huge body kits, replicar kits, and sorry OJ but V8 transplants, make it into something it was never meant to be, a slick and nimble little back road terror. As I said before, if you want a Vette, just buy one. I can't believe that that swap didn't hurt the twistie road handeling of the car, there is such a thing as too much power unless you like going really fast in a strait line.
  20. Seller should add "Will consider trade for leaf blower"
  21. I think he forgot the decimal point ($70.00)
