Wheel size
Hey Guys: I upgraded the front brakes on my 240 with the Modern- Motorsport vented rotor and the S12W 4 piston caliper, nice stuff. I find that the caliper sticks out past the wheel mounting plate on the hub by 5/8". I was hoping to stay away from a spacer plate and find a 15" or 16" wheel that would work. If anyone has crossed this hump:tapemouth I would sure appreciate the help:D Thanks Peter

Hey guys; I have got a 700R4 in my 72Z and I am wondering if anyone can tell me the approiate angles for the driveshaft. Right now the tailshaft of the trans is about a 1/2 inch to the drivers side of the input shaft of the rear diff and about an inch higher. Thanks Peter:devious:

Shifter Stuff
Hey Guys; Iam building a 72 with a small block Chevy and a 700R4. According to the JTR book the stock shifter and linkage will hook-up to the trans, and it does. The question, in the book it shows the shifter mounted to a piece of angle iron which is bolted to the trans, is this a inorder to prevent the trans from accidently shifting from torque or could the shifter be mounted to the floor??? How about using a cable shift, from a Camaro, mounted to the stock shifter . Thanks for the input in advance!! Peter

Hood swap???
Hey; psimkin here, sorry I didnt get back sooner, but Disneyland was great. To let you know, I am going with a built 700R4, 4spd auto. I designed the car for cruising, slightly fast cruising :bandit: I built the small block for the reason stated by 72Z, more balls. I have been busy at work, but I am taking the car to a buddys shop in the next couple of days to put all the pieces together, should be on the road by August, the wait is Killing me!!!!!:devious:

Hood swap???
I am putting a small-block Chevy in my 72 240, I also read that heat build-up under the hood could be a problem, so Ihad planned to put hood vents from a 260 on the 240 hood. Before I hack-up the good 240 hood, I wonder if a 260 hood would fit on a 240???? Figure someone has tried, any luck??:bandit:

Rear Disc Brakes? Worth It??
Hey TexasZ; I built a 72Z with a 360HP small block Chevy, I went with the Toyoto front brake upgrade, stainless lines and better brake fluid, DOT-3 and just used better pads on the rear. I use the car for mostly cruising, quick cruising, in-town and highway. I found this brake setup good for what I need. Guys I have talked to about the rear dics say it's a great upgrade and with the parts available from guys like Ross Corigan [ sorry I dont have his e-mail at hand] the swap is easy. I think the biggest concern is what you want to do with the car???? Drag raceing, roadcourse, cruising whatever you want the car to do will effect every system from suspension, brakes, tires and wheel size, cooling etc. At some point I guess we all need to stop, crap. Ther are brake upgrades out there that will hall down a Z from 60 to 0 in less than a 100 ft, hold on to your nickers!!!!! It's what you need and how big is your wallet??? Think, Plan, DO!!!:devious:

need info on V8 swap
Znut; Me again, mounting the V-8 in the JTR position is the easiest and best way to go. The book from JTR gives you all the piecses needed to perform the swap, rad support, engine setback plates and trans mount. Just take the drawings to your machine shop and make 'em up. Ihad them made in stainless and billet aluminum, some are visible. Everything from electrial, clutch, rad sizing, exhaust, wiring etc is covered. With a resonable amount of mechanical skill and basic tools you can do this. I also upgraded the suspension with better shocks and springs, urethene bushings and bigger sway bars. The brakes get stainless lines and Toyota 4 piston calipers. I have not had to weld or cut anything. Think, Plan, DO!!!!!!!!!!!

need info on V8 swap
Hey Znut; gasgasnis right ,a small block can be made to weigh about the same as the stock 6 cyl. A bone stock small block Chevy only weighs 150 lbs more than the stock motor, about a passenger weight. Mounted in the set- back position as per JTR[ Jags that run] the weight is spread nearly 50-50. You can spend a lot of coin to loose some weight or build up the small block or a combination. Think about what you want to do with the car, it'll help you decide. Drag racing, salalom, street/strip, etc.????? I am building a 72 Z with a 360HP/ 420torque small block Chevy and a modifed 700 R4 trans, should be a good cruiser?? Think. Plan, Do!!!!!

Fuel Cell
The only car I saw with a fuel cell was done for the purpose of installing dual exhaust. With the spare tire well taken out the conversion was real slick and the duals right out the back looked MEAN.

new to datsuns
You hit the nail on the flat spot!! What I found really counts is what you want to do with the car and what you want the car to do for you, sounds like crap at first, but every system in yhe car can be effected by it. Think, Plan, DO!!!!! :devious:

new to datsuns
Hey datsunkid; I am just about finished V-8ing my 72 Z and a weekend job might depend on what else you might do to the car?? I stripped out and re-did everything from bumper to bumper and it's been a year of weekends and lots of nights. Once you start looking at things like rads, tranys, wiring, rear ends etc. the time flys, but ,hey, it's been a blast. Think, Plan, DO !!!!! :devious:
