As it turns out, the wire leading to the green w/white stripe is positive. Good old trial and error! When it is wired backwards, the timing was considerably advanced. It idled smoothly, but didn't rev well. When I got it right, the timing was back to normal and it revved good. Thanks again for the information.

The two wires from the distributor are both green (at least by my old eyes!). However, the other end of the connector that goes into the wiring harness has a green w/white stripe and a green w/red stripe. What I will do as soon as time permits is go with the wire which connects to the green/red wire as positive. When I start it up I will check the timing and see if it has changed. Thanks, Zed Head, for the help. I will post my results later.

I am rewiring my MSD 6A to bypass the transistor box on my early '74 260Z and just use the MDS box for firing. What I need to know is which wire coming off the distributer is positive and which is negative. I have a "male" and a "female" on the plug and don't know which is which. I have a factory manual and still can't find this info. Is there a way to check this to be sure?

I'm pretty shure I found a plug in unit for what I have on ebay. It is a golf cart lighting relay! Has same dimentions and specs as what I need. I'll use this for now but I think I will wire in a more common relay when I get the time. Thanks for the suggestions. I have learned a lot about relays during this search.

Just to clarify, my Z is an early '74 and had no headlight relays from Datsun. My current SHORI relays are four post. So far I have been unable to find a diagram for them. I am assuming that I need to know what wire does what to be able to wire in another type of realy.

Some years ago I purchased a headlight wiring kit (from Black Dragon I think) and I now have a bad relay. The relay in question is a SHORI S11-1A-C1-12. I have had no luck finding one of these or a replacement for it. Anyone out there know of a source for these?
