Do NOT buy a 123ignition distributor.
I suspect there are lots of people like me that haven't gotten involved but still have a high opinion of 123 because I know people who have run them and like them. It is unfortunate you have had a problem and others for that matter. The main take away I have so far is their supplied caps are suspect. As for your engine damage, I would want alot more info before I blamed the distributor! Lots of other possibilities there before I would suspect timing. Now on a turbo application timing is more crucial but NA and strret compressions not so much.

Is there difinitive engine damage? I didnt pick that up in the original post. These engines are pretty robust

AutoZone and crap from China
The honey article was fascinating You wonder how many products we consume are contaminated. The country of origin is also hard to really know whether you can trust that too. Sort of like online reviews. Might be true; might not. How many of the health issues in this country are the direct result of all the processed junk we consume and are exposed to?

Replacing S30 Rear Wheel Bearings
Yes. The original ones are one use parts. After you do the hubs once, you won't really want to do it again. Besides it's been 45 years on the first ones! The 280zx nut is a self locking nut and could possible be used again. Although a lot of people advise against. So buyer beware!

Rust Advice 78 280z
Unless the car is in a relatively dry and not humid shop or garage, the raw metal will need to be protected. Some rattle can primer will help as long as it's not really sitting in the rain getting wet. Rattle can primer won't protect metal from the rain. If it's relatively dry where it's at then a rust treatment/converter will help the metal not flash rust for months.

S30 Fender differences
There are more brackets inside the 280z fender. They hold the extra splash guards IIRC They mount on the car the same way on all S30's

What weber carbs? What are their history? You didn't have this issue before the head gasket? How long have you had the car?

A Tough Night...
That's great! Glad you got motivated to dig in. Good you found the oatmeal source too. A loot of people seam the car at the radiator support instead of going back to the shock towers. It's a good place to disguise the seam while the radiator support is out. There might need to be some patch work to deal with the rot but that would be the least intrusive to the car body. If I were going back further, I would seam the car under the forward lip of the shock tower. That would leave a minimal seam above the tower and below it to the frame rail that would need dressing. I would want to put the car on a frame rack before I started cutting on it or better yet. Take the donor cuts to the frame shop and pick up the repair car when it's done.

A Tough Night...
That means the door hinge area probably moved a little. Like 1/8 or less. Just from the pictures, I would say it's fixable all day long. I really think the front structure can be pulled and straightened. Would probably want a new radiator support though. Like I said, let me know if you need any parts C

HLS30-00512 up for Auction on BaT
At this point I view sub 500s as $100k cars. So 22k for a not disaster project seems pretty reasonable. You do bring up a good point about some of the missing pieces that could be hard to replace. I always wanted a low number car but I have pretty much gotten over that because I want driver cars. The sub 500 cars are quickly becoming too rare to be practical to put miles on.

A Tough Night...
That's awful!!! I bought a new to me Tacoma a few weeks ago. The kids have wrecked it twice in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna lose my mind! Good that everybody is ok. I suspect the other vehicle didn't stop... I can't open the pictures. Don't know what software to use.

That was a long day at the shop! Good you got it sorted. That is one of the disadvantages of buying a project in a box. Always helpful to have someone who knows how all the details should be Cheers, enjoy!
