  1. I would still say that is a pretty good deal considering the car doesn't look like many of the "Fred Flinstone" vehicles I see for 2 or 3 times that

  4. The spindle pin is designed to be tensioned against the bushings to make it all one piece. The serrations on the end of the stock bushings help to accomplish this. I believe the poly bushing have an inner sleeve that tries to duplicate the same thing. I also believe that is why the spindle pin seems t o be so soft and easily damaged by beating on it. As long as the spindle pin doesn't rock in the bore then I would think it should be fine. I worked on mine until I could push them in by hand. I wouldn't want them any tighter than I could tap them in with a rubber mallet. They were snug but not tight and fairly easy to rotate in place.
  5. As the every day public sees more and more articles about the value of Z cars, the odds of finding a really cheap one goes down exponentially. I am afraid those days are pretty much gone. The definition of a really cheap Z car is changing sort of like the value of a "cheap" ferrari

  8. The chassis looks done and painted and that is more than half the battle! I totally understand the large family issues. I have 5 and that is partly why my car is still unfinished after so many years. A lot of this stuff you can learn and you could pass those skills on to your kids. Most of what your car needs is reassembly. If money isn't a problem find someone to put it together and give it back to you. Otherwise consider having some one reassemble the electrical and get it running and you could take it from there.

    I totally agree and I appreciate your effort in providing parts like this at Banzai. I also have to balance parts I need versus available cash to purchase them. Also being able to reproduce some of these thngs allows me to make hoses or parts for other projects, not just Z projects, but projects where these parts are not even available. It's a balancing act for me. A limited amount of money needs to be spread over the car. I need bumpers and don't want to try to make them. I also need hoses, but I "might" could make them if I have the raw material. The reproduction hoses actually cost more than the bumpers. When I need a windshield washer bag or a data tag, I would call you because it doesn't make sense to try to make one. Unfortunately these limitations is the world I live in
  12. Are they tight from the very beginning or when they are halfway in? I found that the area around the locking pin had been deformed by over tightening and I had to use a flat file to make that section round again. If your pins are brand new, then sand the control arm holes until they go into each section easily. Don't try to slide them through all 3 sections at once. If they will go through each section easily then I would say that is the correct size. I greased all of this up, although I don't know that that is FSM correct but I wanted the corrosion protection the grease provided. It is also possible that the extra effort needed to remove the spindle pin sections damaged the bores on your suspension pieces. I wonder if a ream could be purchased to true up the bores for installation. Do you have a micrometer? What is the OD of the spindle pin?

    I remove all of these from my cars when I restore them and then remount them when the paint is done. This one is mounted with 4 screws so pretty easy to make it right.

    They look like the jacket might be nylon. Looks like it might be too shiny. I have found some material that might work for vent hoses, another possibility for booster hose but nothing yet for the heater hose or radiator hoses. If I were going to buy a hose it would be the radiator hoses. VW's, old MB's, old Jags, BMW's and Ferrari's all used cloth covered hoses. So there are some options for sources but many like the Ferrari links are unreasonably priced

    I'd seen that one but it is not the one I'm thinking of. The one I was thinking of was heating them in the oven at like 200F with internal wires to set the shape I don't really want to allocate that kind of money into hoses and if I could find the right material, I could make hoses for Cody's car too which are NLA

    I know JDM parts sells braided hoses, but I would like to take a shot at making my own. I am having trouble finding cloth braided heater hose. Does anyone know of a source? Also there was a thread a good while back where someone was making hoses at home. I searched but couldn't find it.

  21. It would be really interesting if there was a vendor like MSA @Joseph@TheZStore who would be interested in reproducing the wavy washers. Yours would make excellent models for a mold.

  24. How do you know you need one? I don't know what interchanges.
  25. It may not have caught up but then again it may have. If he ends up looking for a fairly rare head, you can do a lot of welding for that. I have started seeing heads in the $600 range. I can get a lot of holes repaired for that kind of money. If it is just some erosion at the head surfaces that may be doable. If it's significant erosion inside the head, that is totally different.
