Will be interesting to see where they finish from there. Do you buy them directly or are you using a broker for purchases out of Japan?

Ok, so now I'm a little confused... No, I don't believe I have those but I did order these https://www.ebay.com/itm/275798283202 Edit: Evidently Jim Frederick is the ebay seller "My name is Jim Frederick and I live in Lutz, FL just outside Tampa. I am a 240z enthusiast and collector/restorer of low vin number 1969 production date cars. I have a 2400 sq ft a/c garage nicknamed Z Mecca that houses my collection of 240z cars." I don't know that they will have the lip? Also yours seem to have spring clips for accepting screws on them. How would screws be used? I was thinking it went like this: The plenum (#55) goes inside the hatch with the little accordion drains attached to the bottom of the hatch panel. Then the gaskets #65 go between the plenum and the inside face of the upper hatch panel. Then stainless clips get snapped over all three of these. The lower face of the clip inside the plenum. The upper face on the outside painted surface of the hatch. Then the decorative vents with barrel clips get snapped into the reproduction stainless clips Is this correct or is there another step?

Correct Hood Latch Early 74 260Z
Part of my thought process was, if there is an internal flaw in the latch, swapping them would reveal that. If the condition is the same then I might swap the male part of the latch from the 240. If I still have the problem then I would start trying to think outside the box. Might leave the latch slightly loose and see if it's an adjustment issue. There is some play in all four bolts for adjustment

Looks good. Those are nice tools to have. The floor pans look to have an excellent fit!

Correct Hood Latch Early 74 260Z
I don't see how you could lose 2 tenths in the latch mount. That kind of damage should be pretty obvious. You could try just switching the female latches between cars and see if that helps?

@Namerow What is the black plastic part in the second picture? Is that the remnants of the original black piece or something else?

rubber adhesive
How do you expect that will hold up over time? Is an applicator necessary or are you just using those to spread it out?

I have some questions about the hatch assembly. I had thought about installing the glass in the hatch before putting it on the car, but now I'm thinking it might be easier to get the hatch on the car without the extra weight of the glass. That would mean installing the glass from inside the hatch space though Also how do these mount? I may have answered my own question but wanted to be sure. I have new clips for these This is an old clip and it appears that there is emblem retainer that helps hold the clips to the car? I looked on car part manual and they say there are M4 screws holding the vents onto the hatch, but that doesn't seem right... https://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/body-240z/tail-gate-panel-trim-lock-rear-bumper

I worked on the hatch glass one day last week. I needed to get the trim into the gasket. I started with the top piece and then did the two lower corners. On the top piece I put the inner edge into the gasket and then used my thumb to roll the outside flap out and over the trim. Working my way down the piece. On the two lower pieces, I go them set in the corner so that both legs would go into the inner lip. Then I got one end tucked about 4", then I went to the other end and worked my way towards the corner. The issue gets to be where the trim has a much sharper corner than the gasket wants to make. Have to keep working and trying to shape the gasket to the tighter radius. I did eventually get it. I am hoping the hatch itself will help to reinforce the tight radius

So I worked on jute some more the car. I ordered the jute from "The Roadster Factory" per @Zup. It was not quite enough to do the whole car. I am short one section for under a front floor mats. I also cut and buffed the hatch. That was a disappointing because I believe I have sanding scratches in the base coat. No getting them out now... 😞

Video recommendation: "My Mechanics" restores a 240Z
If a source could be found for the rivets then this might be a possibility for others to follow. I also suspect his press is pretty strong like 30 or 40 tons or more. It is also amazing how much movement he has even with the tight tolerances of the rebuilt hinge. I assume it's just a function of how many connections there are and the tolerance stacking

Yes, and I believe it is because of the multilayer complexity. Lots of surface area and low on the car. All those layers get wet but can't get dry and it's not galvanized. A modern chassis dip would probably help alot.

So here is the issue: I placed an order at the end of August this year. 4-6 weeks for delivery. That's fine, no rush. I sent an email at the end of October. They told me,"There's no problem with the order. It should go out the end of this week or next week." So it's four weeks later now and still no leather! Currently 12 weeks later and it's starting to hold up progress. I emailed them again today. We'll see what they say...
