  1. Dutch? Does your friend have the original ecu? Pictures of the numbers on that would be helpful
  2. Yes, they are, but I have found they're worth it!
  3. Yes, coal slag can be very aggressive but it does strip fast. The parts all look great
  4. A clear fuel filter before the fuel pump will be fine. No high pressure at that point in the system

If you only use the mechanical put a bottle under the hood close to the pump. The mechanical pump struggles to prime the line without the car running. If it were me, I would start with the substitute supply at the electric pump. If it works great, if not, move the fuel supply to the mechanical pump

I would think you could put the container on the floor. If there's not a ton of extra line the electric fuel pump aught to prime itself. If it won't raise it up while the pump is running until it primes. Put a return line into the same container so it won't pump all the fuel back to the tank.

Put a pickup line in a container of fuel and use it as the tank. If the system fills and runs, the issue is in the tank...

It's possible but these transmissions will still function well even after abuse. Many times they come out of gear because of interference at the shifter lever. On the transmission I rebuilt that long ago. The only damaged part I really found was the reverse idler gear. It had chipped teeth. Maybe Siteunseen will chime in...

What makes you think it needs a total refurbishment?
  10. I would replace it all for expediency. Dizzy to plugs. Once you know it's ignition related you can locate the exact cause by using sections of the substituted system
  11. I agree it doesn't seem to be oil fouled. I still think it's ignition related. I would replace the whole ignition. Even if just to diagnose. A leakdown test would be good too, because it would tend to rule out a compression or valve sealing issue
  12. I don't know of any way to definitively determine the health of the oil rings without disassembly

IIRC there are two pieces of metal that spin closely to each other. If the gap between them isn't clean or has corrosion then it will read high across the range

I'm old but that doesn't mean I'm ready for the recycle bin...yet 😝

    Those look nice!
  16. Those numbers look a lot better. Maybe a little low but that doesn't appear to be compression rings
  17. That's a lot of money for Datsun. Amazing what prices have done in the last 10-15 years!!

69 was a great year! I knew I liked you for some reason! 😉
  19. I agree with Mark, I don't like to remove steel spark plugs from an aluminum head when hot. Too much chance for thread damage. I also agree that a remote starter makes this an easy job. You don't even need to turn the key on and it can all be done without getting into or reaching into the car.
  20. @inline6 Garrett, I meant to respond the other day but must have gotten side tracked. Flattening agent is really tough! It is basically silica or glass in solution that you add to your paint to make the finished surface not smooth. That gives the satin or semi gloss look. The problems come in though in technique. If you lay it on too heavy the paint dries out glossier. If you lay it on too thin it looks flatter. Really tough to be consistent. I have done some of this with catalyzed paint but lately I have just switched to rustoleum for the speed aspect. Even out pf a spray bomb the thickness wet changes the finished appearance. C

Thats the issue Iwas having the other day. Even my own profile
  22. That's unfortunate considering the numbers are not accurate and basically useless. I agree with buying your own gauge and doing it yourself. I am sure you have the skills to accomplish this with a little instruction from us.
  23. The other thing is what does suspension rebuild involve? If they torqued the bushings with the suspension hanging instead of loaded that will increase your ride height.
  24. Yes, those are not designed to be serviceable. You can take a dremel and grind off the stakes. Then push the caps out. Restake it when reassembled

So I spent a little more time on the car today I had this filler neck and it was stiff but not pliable. So I soaked it for about 36 hours. Made all the difference in the world. Really amazing... Turns out it needs to be pretty pliable to get it installed Who was looking for these? Also I have this selection of gas pedals: Which was is correct for my 71? 2 have plastic pivots and one has a metal pivot. The one with the metal pivot is also shaped a little differently
