First time Z owner
It has been has been many moons since I've posted on this thread. I have been working on the Z, but it is still not done yet. I have about 90% of all the paint off the car, I have ordered new panels to cut and weld everything that is damaged (rear fenders, hatch panel, and lower bumper panel). I have a good E31 head with the upgraded steal valve seats purchased from a fellow member. It is starting to get warm out and I tend to work more on the car the warmer it is. Im going to try ad give a call to air/gas tomorrow to order my ar/co2 gas for the welding. Im also looking into renting a dry ice blaster to get all the little corners that are just impossible to get to. I've been contacting racing labs for Rota Rb 16x8 +4 in gold w/ polished lip. Unfortunately everytime I contacted them they said check back, after so many times emailing them I asked if they do special orders, they actually don't do special orders. But after doing some reading on here, I found out that 18racing.com will do special orders, so I will be ordering the rims from them. I don't need them per say, but If I can get my wheels, I can sell the other rims that I have off of my Z now which are the Enkie 92's. The color of the rims will go great with the color im painting my car...British racing green. I chose this color a long time ago, but I don't know which version I'll be using whether its Jag, Lotus, or Miata BRG. Here are some much needed photos of what the car is looking like right now. I'll have to go to my other computer to upload more photos.

Freshly painted 77 280z
Don't know if this is thread is closed, but I just sent them an email today after reading this. Hoping I can get a good quote from them. Im looking to get my 70 240z British Racing Green, the car is down to bare metal so I would need to get it primed.

OK, WEll my Cheapo Harber freight digital caliper came in and I measured my stock valves seat from my other E31 that are unchanged to the E31 I want to use with the new steal seats and They measure the same, so it has the same exhaust valve size.

I don't know why im not worried either? Haha its the first car ive ever done anything more then wash and change the oil. I haven't messed up so far, I also take my time on what I do, and I've never had to take off a HG so that's also new which is why I was asking if it should be cleaned more. Everyone had different opiniins on that whuch is why I asked. Trying to learn and also keeping it simple with how I learn. Everyone learns different too.

I've gotten a lot of good information from people. For the record I'm not worried about the head having any problems after its cleaned. I'm sorry I had grammatical errors. Smartphones don't help when your driving and typing apparently. I'm getting it cleaned now, no worries people.

I have no doubt that the head isn't flat. Im sure its up to spec on that, Im on the side of being cheap and lazy and DIY cleaning . I don't like to spend money if I don't have to ya know? I was asking because I've read many threads where people got a head from the JY and popped it on and it ran fine. I went back out tonight and tried some easy off and that didn't do much good either. I can take it to the shop and have it cleaned. I also said I wanted to get it back together and the car going because Im not rebuilding the block either. My block was fine before I pulled it out to get the car restored and so fourth planning later on to build a L28 with some kick to it and not sparing any expense , later on down the line if I decide to sell, I would get the L24 back in new condition. If the shop will just clean the head within a week I'll be fine with it. If its going to take forever to do then im going back to DIY .

Everything I have for it is labeled from cylinder 1-6 in separate baggies, I don't have any doubts on anything like that. I'll try cleaning the head more. If I cant get it cleaner then I'll take it to the shop.

The head didn't come with a cam, but it came with everything else. Im replacing the rockers with the cam im putting in. The steal seats were broken in for sure. And everything is in order.

Umm I believe they are stock valve size, but the head already has steal valve seats. I can go and ask maybe this week at the shop if they can get it cleaned within the week.

thats what I've been using, I even tried air craft stripper...had it sitting for about 10+min before trying to scrape off with a paint scraper

Those should all be good. Valves were sealing before it was taken a part, seats were replaced with steal seats. I wasn't looking forward to heading back to the shop anytime soon because it did take almost 5 months to get my last head with the wrk done. I got what I asked but the timing wasn't my favorite. Can't beat the price though.

Its been shaved already and shims put in, I don't want to buy more shims which is why I don't know if I want to get it skimmed again, I may take it to the shop Ive been using to get it cleaned but that would be it if I took it there. They are always busy, prices are really good to pass up too.

Yes the valves are out, I had the whole head soaking in a big tub of Hot simple green for like 3 hours. Any other suggestion on what I can use to clean it off?

Not like I don't have the money, I like to things at home as much as I can. Any other suggestions on stuff I can use?

Would you run this?
Its a good head, bought it from a fellow member. Not like I don't have the money, but I don't want it shaved more since its already been done before. Don't know what else to clean it with then...I know using a razor blade can damage the aluminum, and I tried using a scotch bright pad and a plastic brush with simple green, acetone, and even paint stripper. Any other options on cleaning off more then?

I've been cleaning this head for a week now. And after soaking it in hot simple green, and using stripping cleaner to remove what's left of the head gasket, is it now clean enough to run? Its smooth in all the dark spots, thid isnt super performance racing build. This is a get my car back on the road build

5 speed knob reproduction?
Id be down for a 5 speed wood shift knob. I was going to buy that shift knob on ebay. It comes from japan too, It wasn't on ebay for the longest time and when I emailed the guy he put it back up on ebay... still haven't bought it yet though because i find it hard to spend 200 bucks on a shift knob... :/
