That's good to know, I'll order those hoses when I order the DVD. I was going to order the DVD anyways. I hope I'm understanding this project . Sometimes I second guess myself and I don't know if I'm skilled enough for this but I always come back with me saying I'm able to do it like everybody else. 35 def is not as cold as your temp. But here in the bay we usually don't get to 35 which is weird for this winter, and working outside in that is not fun.

Well I didn't get a chance to read any of this before I took them off. I have to say these things are way dirty. Almost like they've never been cleaned before, I went slow as make sure I keep my parts separate and tonnage sure a take a pic of what I did one by one. I think it needed to be done, all the hoses have to be replaced as well, cracked and busted, man o man is she going to sound good from Be cleaned and the fluids drained and refilled. It is just to damn cold, freakin 37 this morning and i went outside when it finally got into the 40s. I can't wait for this to be in the garage with warmth!

Just picked up some carb cleaner tonight. Going to try and take the carbs off before the rain starts again on Tuesday. Tomorrow I'm going to see if she turns on and then take the carbs off. I'm going to soak them to losen a lot of the carbon in there then use the cleaner. I have to take oil out of it dont I?

I see, well that will be when I get it home I can to that. My first thing to do is take out the carbs and give it a good cleaning. Lots of carbon deposit! Prob never been cleaned once!

I do want to show the world that she's alive! only to the gas station that was only a block away. I don't think she's road worthy yet. I felt like I was on top gear if you guys have seen that show. Gear did not slide in good at all do I don't know if it was the clutch or tranny. I'm still going to do all my fluid changes. I'm positive that whoever had this car only did minimal things to keep her going. I want to take the valve cover off and get to cleaning the valves up. The motor doesn't sound that bad for not running for two years but at the same time she sounds tired of working for long without a good cleaning. To be honest the breaks felt really good. I have some paper work in a folder that showed break parts ordered so I think they're newer but I'll have to jack her up and take a look. My friend who was with me is almost down with his mechanical engineering degree and he was going to buy a 240z he helped alot yesterday.

The video was taken with my friends iphone, she didn't tilt it for wide screen The car was warmed up for a while before I tried to drive it, The gas is clean but I think its color isnt right, I think it was clear but it was kid of yellow, the entire shift lever is actually loose but it will actually go into the actual first gear spot but no gear will engage which is weird. But time will give me it to figure out, one of the last owners swapped it with the 5 speed manual. Clutch might be bad and fluid is almost at the low level or is at it. I didn't go faster then 25 to the station. Had to take it easy with no gears

I got her going! we went for a drive today, took my friend with me to work and we got to work to get the car started. She wouldn't start with the air box on so we have to open it to get her going, we messed with the idle because the car idled to low so now shes idling normal, the engine still wants to run, lots of carbon build up in the carbs, lots of oxidation on the idle so it needs to be completely cleaned off to work properly. The last owner put black carpet in but used some weird aluminum piece screwed into the floor to hold the carpet down, but the metal was bent to allow the gas to be used but was totally blocking the entire pedal from even going down all the way. Anyways theres's a video I'll be posting in a little bit. I drove to the corner and put 5 gallons of 91 premium which filled up the car and filled the tires. Transmission on the other hand is very bad.......1st gear was where 3rd should be, and the car didn't want to grab gears and im sure a good tranny fluid change might help a lot but only time will tell. Im going to do the fluids change, remove the radiator and get some watered down clr to get the damn minerals off and inside. lots of work, so much exahaust fumes!!!! had to take off the shift boot and basically drive with road under me to get into the right gears...... Still want to buy her....... jk

Is my car really worth that much?! No way?! I figured maybe like 2grand or so. I'm going to work on her a bit this weekend. Oil up my new filter and put it back on, get her some new gas! Then I'll see if she starts up way better then before. If she still backfires I'm assuming that the timing is off. But would it be at the dist. Or would I have to check tdc? Cause if that's the case I'll have to check it with a timing lite and I'll have to go rent one. I want to change all my fluids in the car radiator, oil, tranny clutch fluid is low. I want to give her a wash too and start doing some detailing inside the car. Last owner cut out just regular black carpet and put it in the back of the car and is running a wire to the electric antenna from the radio to the antenna under the seats and then under the carpet. Kind of rediculous.

I don't want to use cheap parts. The only thing cheap i used was the coil but that's only till I get her going and I'll change it to msd. I wanted to buy some fender protectors but I haven't had the chance to order it, I do work at a dog daycare after all . I think I'll be able to drain the tank this weekend with a friend so once I do that and put the new air filter on I'll see how she sounds. I want to order the ztherapy DVD fir su carbs. Unless they fix it for you

Good thing i just let her idle, after she was warmed up I could step on it and she would rev a little with no choke on and she didn't die, but yeah bad gas is something that I know about. I had some in a cup today from the floats and I had a friend put his cig in some of it and it didnt even lite!

Ahhh ok. I'll do that, thought it was the other way. But I did have the air box off so if I put that on would it go away. My lunch ran out so I didn't get a chance, if it's timing that would def make sense that thebladt owner botched putting the wires back the right way. But I'll have to check that tomorrow maybe, if that gas gauge was right it looked like the gas was low on it so I can now drop the tank and drain it and refill with better new gas.

So she will start up on her own now. No choke needed and I have the air box off. Right now, I'd the gauge is right shes almost empty. If I tap the gas too much she will make a popping sound where the air intake would be. I'm wondering if shes running rich with the air box off or if shes just running rich in general. I have some videos to upload to YouTube then I'll show them here.

Got her started!!!! She ran for a min or 2 then died. Started her right back up then died again. I used cold start spray and pulled the choke and throttle all the way. You think the gas is that bad to make the car die?

So I Start from 1 by the radiator and go down the circle it should be in that order?
-
First time Z owner
I'm going to try again today. I have the starting fluid so, what i didn't do is pull the choke all the way so I'll do that today, I pull the throttle all the way too. It's been cold here 7am is between 37-40 but by 12 it's maybe 60-62 degrees.

First time Z owner
So I shouldn't use the throttle lever next to the choke?

There's oil in it, it's clean from only 50 miles of use but it's 2 years old so I have to change it once I get her running. I think the pic can help. I don't have a timin light so I'll have to get one. So the engine will start if the wires connected to the dist. Arent correct? I'm just wondering cause I followed the set up on it today but I'm wondering if the little picture in the manuals I have should be thatvset up if you look at tye book and the dist. At the same time. If that makes sense....
