I've finally came to the point of actually driving my 71 Z, but first I need to insure her for the proper value. I'm new at this, so I was wondering what is the best course of action. Do I go to an apraiser, or trust the insurance company to be fair on the value. If she needs to be appraised, who does this? Sorry for all the question's, I just want to cover my investment if the worst was to happen. Any info greatly appreciated and always welcome. Thanks for reading. P.S. this is the best photo I have, wil post a more recent (complete) photo after she is insured and registered. ;0)
  2. Not exactly on topic, but I am also wondering how to estimate the value of these cars, only for insurance purposes. Any suggestions on a carrier and how to place a value would be much appreciated. Sorry for the thread jack ;0)
  3. Thanks for the offer Chuck, Might take you up on that depending on how much $$ you want for them, and shipping to Fresno, Ca. In the mean time, going to try the above suggestion from cgsheen1. thanks again for the quick replies Eric ;0)
  4. So i decided to have my tail light surround powder coated .... guess my instructions were not very clear. they did a great job on the Finnish, but coated the whole thing ... including the chrome trim. looks nice, but would really prefer the chrome trim for the extra pop. anybody have an extra surround (left and right) they might want to trade/sell? Not worried about color of surface rust, just needs to be straight. worst case, does anybody know a good way to remove powder coat to poss save these pieces? Thanks again for any help or suggestions, Eric
  5. Thanks for the replies, this gives me a few directions to go. Will try to keep you updated on what works best. ;0)
  6. Just about have my 71 ready for the road, and cant find anything to clean the rear hatch glass. The car sat in a carport in the fresno heat for over 15 years, and now it has a baked on ? Tried a few things (mostly on the outside) with not much luck, and I am trying to be careful about the defrost strips. Any help or suggestions always greatlyappreciated. ;0)
  7. BUILD DATE - 3/71 HLS30-25618 EXTERIOR COLOR - CLEARWATER BLUE METALIC (ORIGINALLY SILVER) INTERIOR COLOR - BLACK ENGINE # - L24-032749 TRANSMISSION - 4 SPEED FRESNO, CA.
  8. Its a shame to come this close and have to move on. If you still want to finish her up, I would be willing to lend my garage to you for a few weeks. I'm not next door, but close enough to trailer her down. If you realy have no intrest, it is probably best to sit down and get a realistic $$ amount.
  9. Any idea what you might want for the whole project? Im located in fresno, and my son (now 18) is looking for a project. Might be worth a drive to Walnut Creek ;0)

I've had a few inquire about these seals that are avail, so i thought i would clear the air on this. I purchased some of these seals over the past couple years while working on my 71 240. after purchasing many seals, i decided to get a master kit (now i have some extras that i don't need). All these seals were purchased from ZCarsource.com and are still in package. I know it might be profitable to list in classifieds, but i would prefer to pay it forward. I have been taken advantage of befor when I have offered other items else where, so I am asking that whoever wants these simply cover the cost to ship and also post a picture here of their project to show it is needed. Please don't ask for these if you are only looking to resell these for profit. Thanks for all the info i have gathered over the years here at Classic Z Cars, Eric / Yakhopper

Thanks for the part #s siteunseen, looks like I also ordered extra quarter window seals, so if anybody is in need of these, ill also pass those along for the cost of shipping. Always good karma to help a brother (or sister) out, so pm me if anyone realy needs these seals ;0)

I probably should have posted this in the classified, but was wondering if anybody has an extra set of tail ight gaskets they might want to unload. I accidentally purchased extra seals for the hatch glass and windshield so if anyone is intrested, I will be willing to trade, or just pass what I have on to help another project out ( minus shipping cost ). Thanks for looking, if you are intrested, send PM Eric / Yakhopper

Thanks again guys, The new (later model) wheel cylinders went in just fine. The new hard lines are clean and smooth and also allow for the movement during cylinder operation. now with the breaks behind me, I'm looking towards either new 195/60/14's to fit the Libre's that were on the car when I took posesion, or going with new 16" tires and rims ..... any seggestions? Thanks for all the info and advice thus far, Eric

Aftrr receiving the new cylinders, it appears that the only diff from early and later 240 wheel cylinders is the location of the inlets. Cant believe there isn't more talk abou this. The earlier cylinders cost $225+ each, and the later were readily available at the local parts store (O'Riley) for $35 each. Even with new hard lines and new soft lines, it still saved over $150 each. Now I understand if you have a period correct show car, you may want the earlier, but on a daily driver? Anyway, thanks for all the responses, really glad I asked the questions. Oh yah, Also took the advice to look inside before installing and glad I did, mfgr really did a terrable job of cleaning and final assembly. Thanks again, eric ;0)
  15. Thanks Siteunseen, really appreciate all the info. Ordered 2 cylinder and 2 new lines. Now I need to address the master, any ideas on a more affordable option?

Thanks, glad you were able to make it work. I just ordered a pair of cylinders and a pair of new lines. Thanks again for all the help, Eric P.S. Does anybody know of a more affordable option for the master?

Thanks Charles, That's the info I'm looking for, cam you substantiate that this is indeed correct?
  18. Kerrigan, Is your z pre 6/71 ? If so, do you still have the part # ? My 3 local dealers say they don't have catalogs going back that far. I might be able to have them search the # if I can get it. Thanks, Eric

NLA on the rebuild kits :0( The wheel cylinders were changed on about 6/71, the earlier kits are difficult at best to get a hold of, and the wheel cylinder themselves are over $200 ea. The later kits and cylinders are everywhere and much more reasonable. Thus the ?, will this swap work, or is it sales BS ? P.S. It was rock auto that first told me that the early kits were NLA, after they refunded my purchase of said kits.

While looking for wheel cylinders for my 3/71 240, a vender told me that the later model cylinders will fit with only a minorod to the break line. Anyone ever do this swap? If it is this simple, why has it not been discussed? Surly $50 wheel cylinders areore favorable than $225 cylinders. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the great support, Eric ;0)
  21. When I ordered the kit they thought they had, I inquired about those complete cylinders, the girl was very nice and reserched a little further, they are for later 71 models, and are not correct for 3/71. It appears that the change in the break system came around 6/71. Plenty available for the later, but proving to be a little less than favorable for the earlier cars. Will try a few more leads today, but this might be a little setback. May have to pull the trigger on the nos at an outrageous price. Thanks for the assistance, Eric
  22. Thanks, will look at these in the am. Can't believe it's this hard to find the proper kit. I ordered from 3 sites, and 2 called back offering a refund because their inventory was incorrect and they had 0. Still holding out for the 3rd. Anyways, thanks for the info, Eric ;0)
  23. Thanks Darrel, tried all the locals (auto zone, pep boys, o'reiley) with no luck. Will try a few more, but not much faith in the big chains. It kills me that rebuilds are $150+ and new can top $200, I have rebuilt many wheel cylinders and master cylinders and only need about $5 worth of seals. I'm sure someone out there could make a some $ on these kits if they have the capabilities to reproduce them ;0) Eric
  24. Hi Metalmonkey47, Glad to see your brakes comming together. Wanted to ask what the part # is for the cylinder kit, and where you purchased them? I'm having a heck of a time finding the proper kit for my 3/71. So far I've ordered from 3 main suppliers with no luck. Thanks, Eric
  25. Well, I ordered the wheel cylinder kit from rock auto, and just got a message saying their inventory was incorrect so I will receive a refund :0( Any leads at this point would be greatly appreciated. Really don't want to shell out $150 or more for something I have done many times before. Thanks for any assistance, Eric
