Turbo to none Turbo??
Sammy1970, I think the best thing you can do is, if you are in Adelaide is go over and visit Ben, He knows a hell of a lot obout turbo and the 240Z. One afternoon could advance your cause by a whole heap. All the information Ben is offering is on the money and yes as he stated F54/ P90 is an Australian Delivery Combo (NA) in the pre 88 Patrol. As to turbo combination you can get the power you are after with any L series 240/260/ 280 combo, the diffrence is for how long. good Luck Steve :classic:

Blown Head Gasket!!!
Gav240z, I am sorry to hear this story. The smoke consideration is the key here, as alluded to by Zedrally it is probably the major problem, to me if the blue smoke is constant and not effected by rpm or load, I think it is more serious probably holed or destroyed a piston or at least scored the hell out of a bore when something impacted the rings and shattered them. I hope I am totally wrong. I wish you the best of luck with the recovery. Steve

KYB shocks
I think you will find for your question who supplys Tokico in AUSTRALIA the ANSWER is most probably nil ,no one, non. I am sure they pulled out of the aussie market, you may have to buy from the west coastof the US or somwhere in Europe. Watch on EBAY as well. Look at the website in the states for all the info you need i think it should be easy to deal with the US based Company. Good Luck Steve Tokico Gold/ King springs and loving it.

1 Bravo 6, Rick that is amazing, I will put the first number in for reference as for the rest I will put them in except for the one you are driving on. looking at the capitol document rego and the RACQ numbers HCW423 and HCN473 are the same PLATE. I suspec the second numbers are good for the age. I want to see this info set up with "Precious" at a show one day. one day. Cheers Steve :classic:

Ram Air
I recommend ram air ducting. I am running a 77-78 280Z filter housing base with standard plumbing back. I removed the top section of the filter housing, you know the bit held down by the three butterfly bolts and fabricated a stainless clamp to hold the filter in, breathing good cool ram air. always loves cold days and late night running, winter is great. Oh and like LanceM above a hundred is much better again. Good Luck Steve:classic:

What fuel do you use in your L series motor?
As for the tunning I was so successful. I now run fuel injection it is the best. The trick to the Hitachi is to get the balance right keep the oil good, make sure the both valves weights fall at similar rates, also check that the chokes lock off when you push the lever down. (take a breath). Did I say I lifted my Hitachi's and manifold of in 1991 and injected my L28 from then. Hitachi's can be great if you can get them right. The set you are getting are the best. How soon for details and pics of the new one. Cheers Steve :classic:

What fuel do you use in your L series motor?
If you have an older engine (passing mid life). why bother with optimax or LRP just give it ULP. You will not notice any real decay in condition and it will run well if you tune it too suit. This will give you time to progress your other projects before any real effect will be a problem. Did I hear a new or extra Zed. Cheers Steve:classic:

Turbo to none Turbo??
Hi Sammy1970, First of all welcome. I think you will always find someone who can at least offer an opinion, some who can give you seriously good advice on lots of subjects. With turbo stuff thier are two or three absolute top notch forum members. For your predicament, what is the package you have in place. Can you post pics. Are you running aftermarket or factory gear. would you be better off to grab an as is motor to get you running until you work out a plan of repair or build. I think these are a few things that you would need to tell before anyone can sujest a fix. Cheers Steve :classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
Rick, "Precious" was a good find all round, so rare to find so much history on a Zed from Sydney. I guess you would have found out a lot from the original owners so lucky to find them. I had the drivers hand book, and some other bits and pieces that placed my Zed around Strathfield. The owners detail page in the hand book was empty not faded out but void of any informtion unfortunately. It is the original for my Zed as the key codes written in matched my original set of keys and barrels. Do you know the original purchase date. or first rego plate number for "Precious". Cheers Steve

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
1 Bravo 6, Rick that's what I call good information. Thanks for the effort. Nice Production. Everything you placed in your thread is in the data base. I put in Rocky instead of Yeppoon to show the large regional city. Was "Precious" sold new by Capitol Motors in Sydney, just curious. Cheers Steve:classic:

What fuel do you use in your L series motor?
ULP that is the go, I have run this stuff for a number of years, no matter where you get it it is always the same ( cheap and nasty) and it does not cost to much either, the incredible thing is they blend it with so many diffrent addatives, raise so much tax from it and it is never ever consistant. If you have an engine that can survive and run this stuff it is bullet proof. cheers Steve:classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
240znz, thanks for your information. To the original colour of your Zed, I am sure exactly, I think I have one or two possibles. DULON DULUX Code 006 FULTON BROWN 15033 Code 960 RED 15051 Code 701 TAHOE RED 13320 If you can take a digital pic of an area like up behind the dash, it will give a nice slab of original colour. so it can be matched. I do not have the 70 colour samples but these are from the 71 set. I think it is reasonable to say your Zed was built probably NOV, DEC70 so it is probably not on the sheet I have. Someone will be able to identify it from the picture though. Cheers Steve :classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
Well I will come clean on this. To all, I am now into the pain of collecting the production Data for the S30, Is a very tedious task. I am primarily interested as stated in the export RHD Drive S30. To that statement I have realised that the task gives great incite into market saturation engine number variation and production delay just by reading the numbers. I am of the opinion If you have an S30 and you want to give me the information, I will put it in, that includes HLS30 from USA delivery or other. Any small extension of the data increases our depth of knowledge on production distribution and what is left. I have made a decision to enter the dead ones in Red as well as stating the fact in the comments. They all fill in the jigsaw, even when the only proof hangs on a garage wall half way round the world. To the cause, I would urge all of your input. I will attempt to put it together with information from all reliable sources ( read forum members) and people I interrogate). If you or people you know have valuable chassis/ engine / production / vin / compliance and any other useful info please send it in. cheers Steve

best engine swap (ka24de with turbo or a vg30et)
Yeah, I have to agree a well set Z with good suspension wheels tyres and brakes with LSD is a must, the control you can obtain from minor upgrades will amaze you the starting point is excellent with good point and steer applied at the right time a Z will come alive and supprise my 2c Steve :classic:

What Changed??
Daniel, I might be right off the track but from here it sounds like a fault in the wire terminal end fitting. Could it be that you have corrosion inside the terminal when you remove the washers it loads up and looses contact (maybe the terminal has been catching water). just a thought Steve:classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
LanceM, thanks for that I have put the information in, just one more question, what is your nearest major City?. Roger, thanks for that. I have put a note on both vin dates as confirmed as per your last. I do not have the original engine data for the other Z but I will chase it up. I will let you know if engine numbers are significantly different. To all do I have your Z body / vin number, original data plate engine details. please let me know also production date or vin or compliance dates, original colour interior colour and trans type also any current mods. cheers Steve:classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
I have just input all the information from the last page and some. Zkid got the info let me know if you get those other 8 sets of numbers please. 240znz got the info, I think if you have an Aussie compliance plate it was probably 2/71. what was the original colour/ with black interior manual. Amazombi I have put your details in, the second set. do you have a vin plate in the rear pillar of the drivers door well it should have the build date. LanceM thanks I have put your information in, do you have black interior, auto or manual. Roger thanks I have put your details in does your compliance plate say 4/74 as your 260Z has the lowest number put in so far, A mate in Brissy has 647 it is compliance 2/74. Thanks all :classic: steve

Trying to trace footwell water leak
Im glad it was factory sealant, the resto is always a very slow proccess. Good to here you are going to keep the Zed on the road. You need to be able to get in the Zed and have a blast occasionally to keep your sanity. good luck Steve :classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
Thanks Z Kid, the information will be entered in red to signify a Zed no longer viable. Do you Know any more such as colour interior colour compliance date man or auto. I added another ten serials to the database on the weekend just gone. The information was good for all, with three GRS30's going in in red, two were build dated by the seat belts interesting both were built 4/77. All ten Zeds where manuals 4 GRS30, 2 RS30 and 4 HS30 Zeds. If you have any body number/data plate engine number type info for a RH Drive Export Zed please let me know. the data base is growing nicely. Cheers Steve:classic:

Trying to trace footwell water leak
To that silicone where the floor meets the firewall, are you sure it is whit silicone as the factory used a pourus off white body sealer as the joint compound. If you have any sections of floor in that forward area that are knocked up this could cause seperation at the joint letting water through. sounds like a bitte of work on the floors. Behind the seats at the rear floor joint should be more similar white sealant. cheers Steve :classic:
