Alan, The donor shell regulations, I must confess, I have no real idea what happens now. I do know that in Australia, where Zeds have literally evaporated into thin air, to carry out this type of revival, you would need to have a police clearance report at the start, before and after tag stitching on the donor shell, to save problems later, if anyone suspected an illegal rebirth. Thanks for the picture of the home market Zed with fog lamps fitted. To the second explanation about installation of fog lamps, the word I fashion in response is "crystal". Cheers Steve:classic:
  2. sjcurtis replied to Rogersz's post in a topic in Australia & NZ
RogerZ, the 260z 2 seater has three recognised configurations for seat belts for Australia, the first batch was similar to the Australian delivery 240z I believe you will find this is the group your Z falls into. the next group had a twisted wire style pilar attached guide and strut tower mounted reel, the third type is identified by smooth metal pillar guides made of solid metal with reels mounted same. "Caution" both reel types have right and left hand reels, and the two types have variations in hardware. The attachment latches between type three and two will not interchange, It is not hard to install as an upgrade package, the down side you need to source the whole package as parts are not common. hope this helps you cheers Steve:classic:

Alan, thanks for the extra information on 35, it is good to see we are all looking to sustain the 240z through any avenue even Donnor shells. Did I tell you in Sydney we have a mini economy driven by donnor shells of all diffrent types of cars. The Fog Lamp sounds interesting from that mounting description but it is still a bit confusing. Yes the overider will do it here, my Zed did not have them on the front bar, just the rear due to the indicators up front. Did British delivery 73 Zeds have the overider, it does not seem feasible. Cheers Steve:classic:

In my 240Z I installed an injected L28 in Australian trim with the standard style injection, management trimmed to my own settings and it regularly returns 26+ MPG in town and 30+ MPG on Highway cycle. To this I run a 3.9 diff ratio through the a 5 speed box. my 2c Steve:classic:
  5. Just for another point of view, I have seen this particular type of wheel used as body stands at some of the ZED wreckers in Sydney in the 80's and 90's, they had no re-sale what so ever. It is so good to see a revival, can you still get tyres to fit them. George love those wheels you have fitted to your car, let me know if you do decide to change them out. my2c cheers Steve:classic:

Zedrally, Sound really interesting. Do you think the car was delivered ex factory to AUS or an early import from Hong Kong or Singapore that got its compliance plate when it got here, because 2+2 Was still in production then. post a pick of the data plates and chassis number if you can. cheers Steve:classic:

Alan, that guy has got his work cut out with the 35 rebuild, its bad when I can see it from here. Thanks for the information on the Fog Lamps. I take it the fog lamps attach on the under side of the standard S30 front Bar. Do the fog lamps have have yellow lenses, do they mount below the bar indicators. Ben, it always amazes me the equipment at your place. Thanks for the info on the indicators. All I ever managed to get was a complete housing in perfect/ new surplus condition with no lense or rubber even had new screw circa 1996. cheers Steve:classic:
  8. George, great to here you managed to get some kind of comprehensive cover. At least now you can take to the road for the big drives when you feel the need, without that nagging thought "what if". And the big plus even if you drive there and back you wont blow your km's going to the nationals. cheers Steve:classic:
  9. 1 Bravo 6, Good to here you have a flash new paint job could we see some pictures please, oh and the Z calling my wife refers to my Z as the other woman. Cheers Steve :classic:

Alan, thanks or the information on those two show cars, I should have known you would have the information at your finger tips. I must say one of those pictures (HS30 00035) looked like a rough one. Ben, Your pictures were excellent, informative, was that the digtal mapping (crank angle sensor) distributor on the L28, so you were running digital injection. Another I noticed an FJ20 box next to the car, or at least the shifter in one photo. Love the induction plumbing on the new injected intercooled set up, very well set up and well crafted, aircraft grade stainless tube if i am not mistaken. It is a pity your lense was damaged for the bumper indicator, I have the same problems with mine perished rubber and damaged reflectors. Zedrally I agree with you I would love to know more about position of the switches and usage, to activate the fog lamp circuit on my Z, has anyone got the information. cheers Steve :classic:

Hi Ben, Hi Alan, This is an interesting slant to the discusion, wiring across the lower radiator support. The only way I found the taped back wires was due to the wire bend radius, I was able to feel the radius through the tape. And yes my loom also had the foglight wires lying dangling from the loom. Ben, I belive you have a late delivery 73 Z, did yours have evidence of the bumper indicators being fitted or that E code sticker on the right front strut tower. Alan, that practice of single car authorisation happens here in Australia and yes not just personal imports NISSAN did it here with some of the mid 80's series bluebirds, even 2, 710's SSS got registration here, yes real one's, must have been a real good inspection. Did those two early Zeds do the 1970 Earls Court Show and where they HS30. Is there a record of those two chassis numbers. cheers Steve :classic:
  12. Hope the deal works out for you. The picture looks good, and the price seems reasonable, there are other data information plates and positions you need to check before you buy any Zed. Heed my warning this car is in the Aussie capital of re-birth and it was not a white car from the factory. The body number should read HS30 00738 and this will be stamped on the fire wall just above the brake booster behind the electrical loom and washer hose. On the right hand forward strut tower low down is the manufacturers data plate, this will also have the body number engine number and hp limit, these two items the engine combined with the compliance plate should all match up. It is probably all ok but it pays to be safe. No manufacturers plate can prevent rego in Australia. To the positive the compliance data regarding ADR's is correct for 5/71 I appologise for playing the devils advocate here but it may save big bucks. good luck Steve :(

240z, That is excellent, do you have any idea of the production date. Zedrally, to the ADR governing indicators. The change in the 73 production to include the bumper indicators on the export HS30 was not an affect of the ADR requirement, definitely a Europe driven change. This is the same ADR as the HQ Holden indicator. 1974 brought the amber indicator requirement to the ADR. The HQ Holden changed over to amber in 73. To them being UK imports diverted to Australia I thought that was 70/71 production, hence the higher sales figures, maybe but I have not got any of those cold weather mods or funny switches. I would say the only difference from the ADR 72 was the front indicators, the inlet manifold and no front bumper overriders. By the time the 260z came along cost and ADR's would have driven the change two the dual bulb under bar indicator/parker, but I have no idea about the Europe delivered vehicle cheers Steve:classic: :classic:

Thanks for the input Alan. Yes it does seem feasible that this sticker with the E codes is a compliance notification by NISSAN for the late HS30 production runs. It will be interesting to see if the SMMT investigation can solve the riddle of the codes. To NISSAN finally getting a single spec HS 30 Zed together for export, I agree If you look into the peripherals for the different market HS30 vehicle deviations would be low in number. I would say the addition of the parker light below the front bar was the only deviation, oh and the two support panels for the lamps. As far as I know no Australian delivered HS30 Zeds had the parking bulb in the head light standard they all carried this function below the front bar in the parker light. As for the above bumper Indicator lamp I think it was standard here on 73 model. As for the pollution Regs in Australia, that is a can of worms but basically anything here with a HS30 prefix had to have a muffler an air filter and minor gas re-circulation only and all run on Super petrol. In 1974 the smog rules started to come in here but they only went initially to carbon canisters then on to exhaust gas re-circulation later with low lead fuel being optional, full fuel madness (legislated consumption of unleaded) came here in 1/1/1986. and the rates of leukaemia have been climbing ever since ( I have now fallen off my soap box). I apologise for expressing that view as some may find them offensive. The bottom line is we could probably say that Australian legislation on vehicles was selected (cut and paste) from different DMV's around the world ( not always the best). As to Type approval I find it interesting that two Zeds were on the road in the UK before type approval was ratified, And why did NISSAN not seek concession if these two cars were on the road, maybe the volume was way to low. The type approval here appears to have been firmly in place by early 1970 and the volume was climbing. We had no major consession changes until the end of HS30 production. Food for thought Steve:classic: :classic:

That is interesting George, who would have thought. I wonder what else is the same. We are obviously running very similar setups (L28E). I wonder if these Zed,s are from the same production batch. Did you check that code on the sticker yet. Can anyone else add to the information behind the codes of engine bay sticker. Cheers Steve:classic:

Thanks for the input. That is an interesting theory about manufactured to a European entry standard, similar to all the mass production electronic equipment from China with the symbol CE some say that is a Europe entry code but others say China Electric Hmmm. I have seen the marker on headlight with the E symbol and that is a standard light in Australia as well. My car is an export model HS30 240Z with a 6/73 Australian compliance plate fitted. Only vehicles that conform to the Austalian Design Rule Codes have this plate attached, normally cars are assembled at the factory to meet the standard here in Australia. So there must be a lot in common with cars sent o Europe. When I bought my Zed I removed the bumper bar indicators lamps, then fitted dual fillement bulbs to my under bumper bar parker light to activate the indicator function in that lamp, like the earlier Australian delivery Zeds. I new I was on a winner when the indicators would not work, the right number of wires were coming out of the lamp but the car side loom plugs was one wire short in the loom. Both power wires where turned back and stowed under insulation tape( factory style and age). I fitted the wires to the blank positions and the indicators worked. I would say "240Z" if you look at Your forward wiring loom you will find matching plugs below the bumper bar with the wire missing. It would be good if someone could unravel the code and confirm the intent of this sticker. Cheers Steve :classic: :classic:

I have always wondered what the information means on this sticker. Do you Know!!! Please if you can shed any light on the meaning of this information please reply. this sticker is in the engine bay, on the right hand strut tower above the manufacturers data plate. Cheers Steve:classic:

  19. sjcurtis replied to texasz's post in a topic in Wheels & Brakes
texasz, I agree with 2ManyZs and JEFF, those wheels are not an original Z wheel but they are the right age to match any 240Z you like and they should be cast alluminum probably 14x6 or 14x7. The plus with these wheels is they are super strong and are great for motor sport off road. My 2c Cheers Steve:classic:
  20. fstr240z, I run Falken brand FK- 06U tyres sized 225/60 R14 on both of my 240z,s all positions are exactly the same tyre. one Z has 14x7 ENKI spun alloy rims the other Z has 14x7 steel wheels These tyres have been excellent on both cars. no problems with clearence on either car. cheers Steve:classic:

Ben, this Z is a lot of work to the body from what I see in the Gallery the area on the front uni body (rail area) will patch up allright with some good welding, In the door Jam you see the rust in the corner at the back, comes from inside to out, if you look in the front of the back wheel well you will probably see another Rust hole. If you pull the carpet look with a torch under the door opening for rust holes I think this Z has been in the weather sitting still for a long time. The interior and everything else looks good and will all repair up. I think the 2 seat Z has a better looking body from one picture. If it was my choice I would not buy the 4 Seater. Good luck Steve :classic:

That is the first time I have seen that kind of random burst "spam". I take it you mean Sandwitch filler. Cheers Steve :classic:
  24. 240 in OZ, I must confirm that I have two diffrent brackets on my car, on closer inspection the bracket to car attachment point is offset vertical which precludes the same bracket on both sides. I confirm the correct alignment / fit position for both brackets is offset hole up. Cheers Steve:classic:
