hey mate, is this up and running again? a friend of mine spotted a stock mint 240k coupe driving through town tonight and thought of you straight away
  2. hi guys. as some of you may know, i've been searching for a coupe for a while, and so when one came up interstate on gumtree i called the man and talked to him about it. he told me that it didn't have much rust at all, interiors was immaculate, ran fine etc etc etc. all sounded well so i (stupidly) bought the car unseen. it took about two months for the car to get to me in adelaide from him in cairns for a number of reasons, but once it got here i was very disappointed to say the least. the car has a LOT more rust than he told me about. and the rust that he did tell me about is a lot worse than he made it out to sound. the interior is not 'immaculate'. it's nice but not complete and definitely not perfect. i'll upload some photos in the next few days as i am still quite angry and have just put the car under a cover and don't want to look at it. i'm still deciding whether or not it's going to be too much of a project for me. i'm going to wait until the end of the month before i make up my mind, at which point i will advertise it for what i've spent on it so far.

funny story actually. I was at lunch with the family and was talking to an uncle about how difficult it was to find one (he used to have a Z back in the day). he told me that he'd keep an eye out in canberra for me where he lives but to just not be put off at how long it was taking as I would find one eventually. when I got home, I got onto Gumtree and searched for one in SA with no luck, then on a whim checked QLD gumtree and found an ad with very little description, I think it was something along the lines of 76 240k coupe, very rare, manual, factory dark green. I called the owner with zero hope of it actually being there still only to find that he'd posted the ad about ten minutes before I called. he sent me some photos, we agreed on a price and now the car is on its way to me. it was just one of those things where the universe delivered I guess. cheers, Declan.

thanks mate. going from the pics i'm going to say 'mild restoration' but i suppose i'll see once it gets here, i'm prepared for a full blown restoration. it's going to be taken back to bare metal anyway so yeah. yes, Laggy6's is immaculate and i'm sad that i didn't notice it come up for auction. i would have bidded fiercely if i'd seen it.

a word of advice - patience is going to be your greatest friend. been searching for 3 or 4 years and only just bought one. had to ship it over from cairns too (I'm in SA). also don't be overly fussy on condition... be prepared for a full restoration and then if you find one in okay condition then you're one step ahead. cheers, declan.

fake wheels suck. in adelaide you can go to extensive wheel repair or across the road there's adelaide wheel repair, both on south road (all of this is from memory)
  13. I'm on Yahoo Japan Auctions all the time but I really want to do the majority of work myself as I think it will make the gift more meaningful to him, also I don't want a KPGC110 replica, if anything I'll be doing a stock standard 240k GT replica (best case scenario is finding a genuine GT).
  14. Hi guys, My name is Declan, I've done a bit of posting on this forum over the past year but I thought it's time to introduce myself and let you all know why I'm here. In 1972, my dad bought a Datsun 240k GT Hardtop brand new from Datsun (fully optioned) for the grand sum of $7845. He wasn't overly into cars but knew a few bits and pieces and adapted a triple carb setup on it, put some jellybean wheels on it and lowered it a bit. Ten years later he met my mother, they moved in together and decided to share a car so he sold his coupe. To this day he regrets it and has always wanted another one, and so I decided that I'd buy one for him for his 60th birthday present which is next year. I've been looking for a number of years and there's never been one in the condition that I'm after. I really want one like Shane's (Laggy6) however I think he got the last mint one possibly in the world! I know all you blokes hold onto your coupes and they're extremely hard to come by, especially in good condition, but any help finding one would be really appreciated. Thanks, Declan.
