Touching up the Console Lid
Eric No probs, just getting a little carried away ;> Looking at your centre console pic, geez I didnt realise that there was that much "silver" trim in this area. Joseph

Touching up the Console Lid
Im with Steve Curtis on the re-do of the chrome trim lines on the inner door panels. I re-did mine a few years back using an aluminium tape which I got from a boating store here in Australia. It is about 50mm (2") wide and was available for purchase off the roll by the metre. I cut it down using a razor blade and peeled back a section at a time and applied it in one long strip without any joins. It looked great, and still looks great till this day. It hasnt peeled off in the sun as I expected that it may do. Cost was about AUS$1 per metre. I suggest that you remove as much of the original silver type foil as possible before applying the tape. Looks much better than the purple coloured plastic that they turn when the silver foil peels off. But hey, atleast when it was purple it matched the carpet in my rear hatch area ;> Regards Joseph

original 240Z for sale
Hey. I wanted to take this posting in a different direction. Can anyone here shed some light on how this car should have been stored away and maintained correctly. Is it possible to store a car away for this period of time, clock up zero miles, keep it maintained, and roll it out 12 years later, start it up and take off? (Im assuming not). Anything specific to the z car anyone knows of which requires extra attention? Keep in mind that I dont want to start a flame war against either the current owner of the car or the current 'keeper' of the car. Lets see what we can come up with. Joseph

D Hubcaps
Z Kid No hard feelings from my end, just glad that the air is clear. I didnt realise that someone would read my reply the way you did I guess and it came as a bit of a shock to see you slandering me on the website. Again, I meant no harm by my posting that I had purchased the caps, and just wanted to close the discussion thread off. I do have some electronic pics of my car but I dont really want to post them at this stage as they are now a little dated. I have recently redone the front end body work of my car and the pics that I have were taken a few years back before the work was done. Im going to borrow a digi camera when I can and get some more current pics. Ill post them to the site when I get them. I suppose that I could post the pics that I have of all but the front end as the remainder hasnt changed since they were taken. Joseph

Major structural rust problem! HELP!
It is. Follow the directions carefully though and if you intend to spray it on make sure you only use the thinner that they recommend, it is also available from them. I have heard horror stories before where a different brand thinner has been used, then the POR15 topcoated with the final coat only to find that it all peels off and you have to start again. Again, follow the directions carefully if you intend to spray it. Joseph

Major structural rust problem! HELP!
No problems. Id actually recommend that you put POR15 on the bare metal after the repairs are made before you paint etc. For it to work effectively it needs to be painted on either bare metal or rusted metal. Bare metal requires a prepping medium before the POR15 is applied; this is also available from the guys at PPC. For a temp measure you could try some cheaper rust converter available at auto stores or even fish oil the heck out of the area. Good luck, looks nasty. Joseph

D Hubcaps
Hey Z Kid I dont want to start up with you, but if I have to I will. Just remember, you started it by big noting yourself on the list about the purchase of your z style caps. If anyone is honking their own horn it is you and not me, I was just trying to have a bit of fun on the list. Alfadog realised my light hearted banter and actually posted that he won because he has mags! Yes I do have a car to put them on. It is an early 71 and the D caps are correct for it (it is a close VIN number to Richards car). I will not be hoarding the caps, they will be used for shows etc in the future when the car is totally finished and back to as original condition as I can possibly get it. With the addition of these caps I think that I can now get pretty darned close. I am of the same opinion as you, I dont believe in hoarding z car parts in a shed and big noting myself about all the spares that I have. In fact, apart from the original wheels and caps, I have no z car parts stored, and only buy what I need when I need it. In fact now that I purchased the D caps I am considering selling the set of z caps that I bought a few years back. I grabbed these when they came up knowing that they were incorrect for my car, but I also didnt expect to be able to buy any of the D style caps abywhere here in Australia. I have been involved with zeds for a while now and have never seen any D style ones for sale in Australia. I want to make it clear why I posted to the list in the first place about purchasing the caps. I wasnt trying to show off to you guys that I purchased them; rather to close the discussion thread off and let everyone know that the caps had been sold so that Richard wouldnt get any more inquiries from you guys about them. I expected Richard to post something about the caps being sold, and did wait a few weeks till I posted the reply. I am not a snob and am trying to fit in with you guys as Im realtively new to the list, but if you guys treat people like this, there are better places to hang around on the internet for z car discussions. Im sorry if I offended or upset anyone with my reply, and z kid if you treat people like this normally, then yes, Im afraid you are just a commoner. Joseph

Major structural rust problem! HELP!
Hey POR-15 is available here in Australia directly from the distributor located in Mona Vale, NSW. Check the website at www.ppc.au.com (they are known as Permanent Painted Coatings). I have also seen it for sale in a few auto paint stores here in Australia. As for frame rails, Warren at All-Z may be able to help you out. He is in Thornleigh, NSW. Regards Joseph

ABOUT TO BUY THIS 240Z.. What u Reckon?
Steve Hmmmm, looks more like rust to me ;> If this is the case it is definately not the car that I saw all those years ago as the one I looked at was definately originally silver. BTW, next time you plan on heading south from Newcastle give me a shout and we can hook up. Im only about 10 min drive off the Sydney-Newcastle freeway. Joseph

ABOUT TO BUY THIS 240Z.. What u Reckon?
Hello I think that I may be familiar with the white car you were considering buying. I believe it is the same one I looked at here in Sydney about 6-7 years ago when I first started looking to buy a 240z. At the time it was for sale in Kirribilli here in NSW. It was in OK condition back then, but wasnt the car I was looking for. Big plus I guess is that back then it had the original L24 in it. It did have metal patches welded into both frame rails on the underside in the engine compartment area. The interior was also pretty trashed back then. It also had different wheels on it, factory 260z mags. Steve, Im interested to know why you say it wasnt a white car from the factory based on the photographs that have been supplied. I have seen many cars with a black engine bay and it was common practice to rust proof the engine bay area of the car when new; the finish commonly being black. You are right though, it definately wasnt a white car from the factory. I am of the belief that it was actually silver as the floor pans on the inside of the car are silver. Hawkwind, you must let us know where you found this stash of 240z's for sale here in Sydney. It probably is Carlos, but I would like to know for sure. If Carlos has so many z cars in his yard, why when I call him does he tell me he has no parts? Maybe just me I guess ;> Let us know about the $16k 260z that is for sale as well. I also want to disagree with the thread discussion a little. It is fair enough to buy a good car to begin with, something that someone has poured countless $ into, but where is the fun in that. I as a 240z owner enjoy fixing my car up bit by bit and spending money on it and improving it and making it into the car that I want, as I bet a lot of owners of z cars out there also believe in. It is very hard to find a good z car here in Australia, I looked for over 5 years for a good 240z in original condition. At the end of the day I settled on a car that I could see had the potential to be what I wanted it to be, and I could make it into what I wanted it to be. I paid $6000 for mine about 4 years ago. If I sold it today as it is I would ask $10000, but I definately wouldnt get my money back. If you want an investment, leave the classic cars alone and go and buy some land. You will never get back what you put into a car when it comes time to sell it. Sorry to go against the grain. Joseph

For Sale - Rubber Bumper End Caps for Rear Bumper (Australia)
Hello I have a brand new pair of rubber bumper end caps for the rear bumper bar. These were commonly seen on the Japanese home market cars. They will fit Aus. spec 240z or 260z. They will also fit the 70,71,72 USA spec cars. These are brand new and still in the Nissan packaging. Nissan part numbers are: 62693-E4101 & 62692-E4101. I paid total of $56.77 (ex.GST) for the pair. I will let them go for AUS$50 plus postage, or make an offer. I accidentially purchased two sets of them and Nissan wouldnt return them as they were classed as specifically ordered parts. I have attached a pic of the pair that I have currently installed on my car. Note that the pair I am selling are brand new and have never been installed on a car. Contact me through the list or joseph.gauci@crowncastle.com or 02 43925603 AH or 02 94959072 BH. Im located in New South Wales, Australia.

Golden 240Z Windshield Wiper Blades?????
Carl and others As requested, here is the part numbers: As per the official Nissan parts fiche, 26370-E4100 Assy-Blade Windshield Wiper. I checked with my local Nissan dealership here in Australia and they were available ex. Japan to us for AUS$56.61 each. They are the early type and fit cars up to 76 I believe when the wipers underwent a change in design. They are the same as the ones which are pictured in the ebay auction which is part of this discussion thread. I ordered a pair of them from www.nissanautoparts.com based in the States. The part number arrived as B6370-E4100 which was for a set of two (they came as a pair in a single box marked with the above part number). Cost was US$16.58 each at the time of ordering which was late November, 2002. I also believe that they are available from Nissan in the US for around US$25-30 each. www.nissanautoparts.com sells genuine Nissan parts at wholesale prices. I found them extremely good to deal with and highly recommend them. Their website also has a useful database of part numbers which you can search and find out if a particular part is still available from Nissan. Be warned though I attempted to order several parts which their database said were still active only to get an email about a week later saying that they were either no longer available or on back-order (meaning as good as no longer available). Hope this helps someone out.

Golden 240Z Windshield Wiper Blades?????
The guy obviously has more dollars than sense ;> If anyone is interested I can supply a Nissan Part Number for the blade replacements. Also, they are not a direct match to the originals. The new ones have no stampings on them whereas the original ones are stamped with the Trico brand name. They look a little different as well. They come coated in some kind of grease. Must protect them from the elements or something. Joseph
