240 in OZ

Gee The only problem that I can think of with this swap is the different tranny used by Nissan between the early and the late car. The early console was designed for the A type tranny while the later console was for the B type tranny. The B type tranny is shorter in length than the A type, hence there may be a problem with the tranny shift lever in such a conversion. I currently have a B type tranny installed in my 71 that has the early type console (I didnt do this swap) and whoever did it has notched out the front edge of the tranny shift lever opening a little to accomodate the B type tranny. It isnt noticable from the top with the outer vinyl dust boot installed. I also believe that the opening in the tranny tunnel itself has been modified to take the B type tranny. I also cannot fit the inner rubber dust boot around the shift lever. I have found an A type tranny with correct flanged driveshaft and am going to have it rebuilt/installed soon, probably over Christmas this year. Hope this helps you out. Joseph

Hello I am trying to ascertain what level of pollution gear (if any) the 1974 Australian spec 260z got. I know that the full set-up (as seen in the USA in 73) was introduced on our cars in 76. I am also trying to ascertain if the same model/spec car got the carbon cannister which is mounted in the engine bay besides the radiator on the drivers side (note RHD). I think that this cannister was part of the pollution gear. I use to own a 75 260z 2+2 (complianced 07/75) and it had the carbon cannister but it had none of the pollution gear intact; it may have been removed by a previous owner though. Can anyone send me photos of an original Australian spec 74 260z engine bay, or direct me to some posted on the internet anywhere; I couldnt seem to find any in the gallery here on the site (there may be some there though). 26th-Z I would only install the driving lights if they are the original factory ones that were an option. This is the correct location for driving light activation switch, ie in the dash cut-out above the hazard warning light switch. Regards Joseph Gauci

Gavin Australian manual 240z's had the 3.9 rear end. License plate light should fit Id expect. Joseph

The black paint in the engine bay is usually where the car has been Ziebarted when new. Joseph

Hello I have found that the original double wire type hose clamps used by Nissan/Datsun on the z series were also used on cars made by them of the same vintage. Here in Australia I have had great results scrounging in junk yards in the boots of 120y's, 180b's of the 70's. The clamps in the boots are usually not exposed to the elements and usually look new and have the original yellow zinc plating still attached. I remember last time I was at the junk yard I pulled about 30 clamps in various sizes out of junk cars. When I went to pay for my parts (I had other stuff as well) the guy laughed at me for wanting so many clamps. Oh well, Ill have the last laugh in the end ;> Joseph

Mike W Sorry to disagree on your comments re oil type not important for the carbs. Too thick and it will be sucked into the engine and too light and it is useless. I have found a mix of sewing machine oil and general engine oil works best. Joseph

Im with Steve Curtis on the re-do of the chrome trim lines on the inner door panels. I re-did mine a few years back using an aluminium tape which I got from a boating store here in Australia. It is about 50mm (2") wide and was available for purchase off the roll by the metre. I cut it down using a razor blade and peeled back a section at a time and applied it in one long strip without any joins. It looked great, and still looks great till this day. It hasnt peeled off in the sun as I expected that it may do. Cost was about AUS$1 per metre. I suggest that you remove as much of the original silver type foil as possible before applying the tape. Looks much better than the purple coloured plastic that they turn when the silver foil peels off. But hey, atleast when it was purple it matched the carpet in my rear hatch area ;> Regards Joseph

Hey. I wanted to take this posting in a different direction. Can anyone here shed some light on how this car should have been stored away and maintained correctly. Is it possible to store a car away for this period of time, clock up zero miles, keep it maintained, and roll it out 12 years later, start it up and take off? (Im assuming not). Anything specific to the z car anyone knows of which requires extra attention? Keep in mind that I dont want to start a flame war against either the current owner of the car or the current 'keeper' of the car. Lets see what we can come up with. Joseph
