holley setup
i'll prob just put a bung in it like you were saying. i know on the z32's, its said that the 02 sensor should be as close to the turbo as possible. prob similar here as well. we will see. tech this is the wifey car, so i can't go to wild with it, tho i absolutely love the mechanical feel of the older z car's vrs my z32. i'm gonna tinker with it today a bit, need to do an oil pan gasket and rear main, as well as finish tuning it up. might do a valve adjustment if time allows as well!

rear main seal question
good thinking! i'll look into it!

rear main seal question
thanks guys. and i got the seal "kit" from napa. i used to work there so i get rediculous discounts. the kit was 10 bucks cheaper than just the seal. and knowing where those go, i think your right, i'll replace just the seal and see where that puts me. there is a slight chance i only need to do the oil pan gasket, but i expect it is the rear main seal. we will see tomorrow am!

i appreciate your thoughts, however, this thread is regarding holley setup's. not side drafts.

rear main seal question
i am tackling my leaking rear main tomorrow. and i looked at my new rear main seal set. but i'm stumped as what the flat rubber keyway looking things are. there are two of them, and they have a matching pair of thin metal pieces as well. can someone clear this up for me?

holley setup
i have looked into the innovative setups. really nice. that will prob be the way i go. i have also heard about the sniffers that you clip onto the exhaust, as thoughts about that? the header looks like the third one down on motorsportauto's site. they title it a 3-2, is a 6-2-1 the same term? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/PEC02

holley setup
good point. i need to redo the exhaust as it is anyways. and that will be a perfect gauge to replace the clock i think! what is the rule of thumb as far as where to place the sensor? i have a unknown brand header 3-2 style. then it meshes into one pipe after about a foot.

Not Z related but the Skyline guys...
so stupid! rumor is they have a task force in cali that is focused on finding and impounding illegal skylines.

Hey I'ma new guy
looks like a fun project. i to have the problematic hoses going here and there and plugged with non automotive things. i think we need some more pics too fyi!!!!
-
holley setup
perfect! now i can put that hose back together! i think i need to start asking around for someone to weld some aluminum for me! being thats its not nearr as difficult as i expected, i should be able to move this up on the list and mesh it in with tuning the holley as well. i am sure i will have more questions when it comes time, but so far so good, thanks for spending the time to, hopefully, show what potential the holley has in the Z cars!

holley setup
wow. talk about over thinking something! how did you decided on the holes from one plane to the other? they look kinda random. also on a different note, the rubber hoses i see on your pics, the furthest one forward in the engine bay goes to the pcv tube i pointed at? with a pcv valve i assume?

what is this?
opps. thanks. i got the two threads mixed up.

holley setup
i'm researching into converting my clifford into a dual plane, tho its far down on my list of things to do, maybe i need to understand and tune my carb first, finish the interior, and the pcv and other things that haven't been finished. but i do enjoy doing something different than usual, and fabbing things such as what i have in my mind for a dual plane clifford. here is a link i found to a guy building his own dual plane intake. now i don't exactly like his setup, as it is not very effecient, but that wasn't his objective. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323149&page=4 so the other thing i wonder about, is this "divider" would have to take the space of the area under the 4bbl and divide it into six ports, three on the primary's, evenly, and three on the secondary's, evenly. and it would need to be every other correct? i.e. P=primary's S=secondary's 1,2,3,4,5,6=cylinder's 1P 2S 3P 4S 5P 6S? or 1P 2S 3S 4P 5P 6S? either way it shouldn't be 1P 2P 3P 4S 5S 6S correct?

what is this?
ahh good call. i'll research into the water jacket. i have noticed quite a bit of things that weren't finished on this Z. but for 450 bucks, and another 50 in random bits like seafoam, and a clutch slave, its a damn good runner! the pcv that i was pointing at should go into the intake, as in one of the three ports i have closed up under the carb, facing the drivers side? so i should get a brass threaded nipple and connect the two?
-
holley setup
we did not tune my carb while in first, or even under a load, makes sense that we should however. i was wondering about how the clifford was setup, as far as a single plane style or dual. tho i'm not sure enough on how a single plane is designed vs a dual plane. might look into it a bit. i am also not familar enough with the accel pump, so i will start looking into it as well. we (my holley guy, and myself) both thought this might be the culprit, but didn't make too much adjustments as we ran out of time. i won't be back home till tues, but when i am, i'll play around with some things and see how it goes. ohh and FYI, my vacuum was at 15 3/4 at idle without a load, and timing ended up being about 12-13ish. timing mark is kind of wide to get a precise number with the timing gun we were using. i'll throw mine on it next week and get a better number.

what is this?
any thoughts on the three ports at the bottom of the intake? i'll also ask on the thread "holley setup"

Do any of you have this problem.
ya i do alot of driving at nite due to my job starting at 6am and it takes me 1.5 hrs to get there! seems about 50% of the hwy drivers don't care to dim their lights, most of them do dim when you flash them tho. and truck drivers do a really good job in most cases. i'm young, but i feel blinded by these HID and crazy blue lights.. sucks...

what is this?
ah, i was wondering if it had to do with pcv's. didn't know these relic's had them! so besides trying to piece back together the pcv system, what should i guy do?

wheel/tire/suspension pics
ktm, hows the steering with those wide tires? 5th- is your Z lowered, if so how much?
-
what is this?
found this on the drivers side of my 77 280z. can't figure out what it is, but it was open and seems to have a bit of positive pressure going to it. FYI, it has been converted to a clifford intake and holley 4bbl. not sure if that has anything to do with it, but maybe also, with this clifford intake, under the carb is three ports. middle one was pluged, and the other two had broken nipples on it, i took them out, and plugged them as i know any vacuum leak isn't any good. are these suppose to go somewhere in particular?

holley setup
just skimmed through this tonite but WOW. thanks for spending so much time to explain things to me. so far i am impressed with the setup. i had my buddy come back over and tune it further, and of course it need more. but its getting there. it seems to rev fine with no load on it, but when driving still boggs when you smash the gas under about 3k. i'm sure if i read you post carefully i'll figure it out. thinking the accelerator pump. we also timed the engine today. as far as i know we did it right, and i hear no pinging but to double check this is what we did. found #1 plug wire and hooked up timing light to it. then unhooked and pluged the vaccuum line that goes to the dist. timed the engine at OP temp to 10. was far below 20 before. only other thing i'm kinda sketchy on is the denso plugs, they are all even in color and a light grey, but i've always been a NGK guy. thoughts?

wheel/tire/suspension pics
wow. good to know guys. i didn't expect a 225 to be THAT much more of a challenge to turn at slow speeds. and your exactly right on the idea of using a smaller tire since it will be her car. tho i do like the look of wider tires, anyone have insight on a middle of the road, maybe a 205? i love the look of this Z. about the perfect stance as far as i'm concerned. but why the change in backspacing/offset between this car and the other you posted?

holley setup
new thread it is! i had a buddy come down and wrench on my Z a bit, and he knows holley's so he could give me some insight. guess i have the quick change vaccuum secondary's. so we popped the cap and found the diaphram torn in a few places. swapped that, and it ran soo much better. still a bit of stumbling, but we didn't check float levels or anything of that sort since we were at 3k above sea level, and the Z's new home is about 6k. need to sort out the new leaking brake master and my clutch leak as well. then the carb gets rebuilt and tuned. so far i am happy with it tho. its such a great feeling when the secondary's open up!

single downdraft carb
ahhh right on! thanks guys. its wierd cuz i read alot of bad things about 4bbls on z cars. but there is usually not much solid info as why. but then every once in a while i read a thread like this that gives me hope! either way i'm gonna run with this little holley and see how she performs!

single downdraft carb
sorry to wake up this thread, but where is this said video. i think i could learn a thing or two maybe!
