PIR is Portland International Raceway up here in Ory-gun. You might be able to find something closer to home by checking at; www.scca.org and clicking under the Solo-2 section. It should have other links that will tell you where they meet and run in your region. Don't by shy about emailing or calling the contact people in your area with any question you may have. It's worth the trouble and it's a lot of fun. Britt

The Autocross season at PIR isn't that far away. You should come out and give it a run. My Z car won't be ready in time but that won't stop me from running my 2002 Dodge Startus. It's a total blast and it's very addicting. Britt

I just knew that as soon as I saw the word "nipples", it was only a matter of time before the subject swayed off topic a little. But the fuel cell info is exactly what I needed. Since mine will be for Auto-X only, I will probally use a 8 to 10 gallon cell. Thanks, Britt

It's on December 3rd. Here's a link that has the info. I've been to this place a couple of times to eat and it's not bad. http://northwestz.org/calendar/ If this link doesn't work for you, let me know and I will get you more information on it. Britt

Do you go to the Z club meetings they have in Salem/ Keizer? I was thinking about checking out the club and going to the December meeting. Britt

You drive to Portland to work? I complain about having to drive in from Keizer! Britt

He could have trouble meeting EP or FP spec's in Solo 2 on his car. I can't tell for sure but the rear track looks like it might exceed the max rear track width rules with those big meats on the back. I beleive the max track width is 57inches in EP and 64 inches in FP. He might have to run it in the Mod class. What is the Doc's opinion on this? Britt

What class is the car that is being built by Dr Sideways? Britt

After rereading the other postings in this string, I saw the GTO was the Ferrari that was being discussed, not the Pontiac, DUH! I should to not try to read these things when I'm dead tired. Britt Boyette

That's all good stuff but, I want a rotisserie. If anyone has one they would like to loan out for a month or two, let me know. I've got most of that other stuff and the welder is coming. Britt Boyette

The GTO's had lots of HP and some of the worst brakes I have ever seen. If anyone here ever decides to get one, spend the cash to upgrade to big disk brakes and upgrade the suspension. I've driven buses that handled better! As for the mighty Delorean, they are fun cars to drive and I think the only weak spot was the PRV V6. The trans came out of the Renault Fuego but worked very well. They flipped the crown gear on the gear box so it could be mounted backwards in a Lotus Esprit style frame. On top of the frame went a fiberglass body tub and on to that, they hung the stainless steel body panels. The car was not overweight. If you ever get the chance to drive one, take it! Britt Boyette

You think buffing out the stuff is work? That's not near as bad as trying to keep it looking that way. That can be a full time job. Britt Boyette

What is your backspacing on the rim? Britt
  14. Have you contacted the place you bought them from? They may know what the problem is and warranty it for you. Britt

Blessed are they whom are born without self awareness, I aways say about people like that. Some of these kids don't have a clue but the ones that do are our future and alot of them are sharp as hell. See where common sense got you? You can't let crap like that eat you up. I would laugh and roll with it and say sure, I got your muffler, but it will cost you. Britt Boyette

I noticed that in the rule book for SCCA Solo in the FP class which is what my goal is, they show minumun weights for all the cars and the 240Z gets to weigh in at 1900lbs. The 260Z gets to be 2000lbs, the 280Z and 280ZX get to be 2100lbs, and the 300ZX(Z31 and Z32), get to trim down to 2300lbs. It's like they are trying to even them up with weight breaks. The class alows you to totally strip the car down to nothing and use fiberglass fenders and hood if you wish. It also allows you to run 16X10 rims with slicks and do a number on the engine/ drivetrain. It's a great class to run my barn car in. Britt Boyette

Your running 16X10's? What is the back spacing on your rims and tire size? I was looking at the rules for the class I want to run and that rim size is the max I could run. I also have to keep my track width to 64 inches. Thank you, Britt

Why would you rule out the 260Z? Britt
  19. I am setting up my 260Z for racing and I'm planing my cooling system. The question is, on the right rear side of the head, there is a water outlet fitting that appears to go to the heater core. Can this be capped off or does it have to run back to the block at the lower radiator hose/ engine block connection? Britt

I checked out Japco's web site and they don't list anything for a Datsun Z. Do you have some inside info on their inventory? Britt

That's one nice car! What's your wheel and tire sizes that your using that require fender flares? Britt
  22. Britt Boyette posted a post in a topic in Parts Swapping
As I'm only going to use this car for racing in Solo 2, this swap might not be nessasary. If your brakes were good for 6 hot laps at Queensland Raceway, they should be good for a minute or two of Autocross action with really good pads. What do you think? Britt Boyette

The hammer action worked. I did put on the lug nuts as a drum catcher and that worked out well too. I seldom use a big hammer for working on cars but it sure is nice to have one when you need it. Thanks all, Britt Boyette

Well, after much cussing and fussing with those rear brake drums on my 74 260Z, trying to remove them, I've deceided to ask for help. I followed the Haynes manual and that didn't work. I backed off the shoes adjuster wheel all the way, disconnected the E-brake, used Liquid Wrench (lots!), tried heating the drum with a torch, and a little hammer action (no fins were hurt). What have I missed? Also, is a rear disc brake set up from a 280ZX a direct bolt up to my 260Z? Britt Boyette
  25. I was looking at some of the performance figures for these two engines and noticed the 240Z seems to have a better engine as far as the numbers for horsepower and torque are concerned. Why is this? Don't they share most of the same parts? Also, if they share the same pistons, where do they make up the longer stroke of the 260Z crank, in the rods? I have a 74 260Z with the E-88 head and the round top carbs and I'm always wondering how to get more out of it. Cam and headers are first on the list. Britt Boyette
