i resoldered the two wires inside the distributor last night, the two wires u can see when u take the cap off the distributor, i dont get what u mean "soldering the wire back to the top of the cap," i dont recall seeing any wires going to the top of the cap cept the plug wires......

now.......how to get my hands on a new one is the question

it is prolly is the capacitor, can somebody explain its actuall point to being on the car and what it does and why its making my z not start?

oh yea i wiped off every plug and the first time i try to start after that it almost runs (stumbles grunts) for about 10 seconds till the plugs get fouled with gas i think........so least i know now its spark for sure, im guessing the spark is just so weak its not enough to start the car

change of mind. the 240 stays no matter how much of a bitch it is going to be im not giving up on her just yet.if i replace the distributor, plugs and wires i know itll run........ now i just gotta come up with some cash...........

well......... looks like im getting rid of the 240, earlier i was told by my dad that i need a more reliable car and somthing that runs, so now im pretty much being told to sell my z ive worked so hard on, just been kinda bummed out today, does anybody know what i should ask for on this car, ive put alot into and prolly wont get much back from it since it doesent run now, i have no job and cant afford to get it to run, if anybody is intrested in buying a strait body z no rust and shaven down rebuilt e31 head let me know.....................

yea........ ive rebuilt the whole top half of the engine but never really got into the distributor area.... and yea i do have a shop manual so ill go check it out............ now i just gotta find it

could u post a pic of what the points are........... and yea the spark does seem a little weak now that i looked at it again

well about 3 weeks ago my 240z slowly died on the road till it had no power then eventually shut off, got it towed home and kept trying to get it to start till the battery died, so i recharged the battery yesterday after not messing with it for about 2 weeks and it still wont start up, i replaced the coil and tested to see if im getting spark and indeed i am, the SU's were taken apart and cleaned not too long ago, its getting fuel and should be getting air but all it does is just turn over and over and wont even seem like it wants to start. if u guys could give me anymore ways to trouble shoot or opinions they would be appreciated....thanks

i need to know what color wires goto the + - on the coil, mine got taken off and now i dont know what goes where on the coil, i have a stock 71 240z coil set up thanks

for some reason im not getting enough fuel pressure to rev the car as it should rev, yesterday my car ran good and today its running so lean to where itll barely run, im hoping its just a fuel filter possibly? do 240z fuel pumps just die out like this? i put the motor back together and cleaned up the fuel pump and it had a good vaccum, im gonna buy a new fuel filter tommorow but i just wanted to hear someone elses opinon, thanks.

mine sat for 2-5 years with gas in it, i got lucky and just drained it and was fine, also drain the carbs. bambi killer can you email me at dero_one@yahoo.com alwyas looking to meet new z people, are you familar with tuning SU carbs at all? if your from pleasanton you should check out my 240 since i live so close........

well the story started when the timing belt broke on my 84 300zx and pretty much tottaled the car so i had my mind set on getting a new car........ i had my mind set on a turbo z31 or the thought of getting a 240z was in the back of my mind, anyways like a week later im going to the bank and i see this 240z sitting in this driveway with a inch of dust on it, sweet maybe they will sell it? i checked out the car, no rust at all, clean body and it was a early 71 with the vents with a 280z hood and nice airdam. i come back later that day befor i goto work and check out this car again to see if the owner is home, nope, nobody is home. so im checking out the car more and this guy comes walking down the street and askes me what im doing and he said its his car and i asked him right there if he would sell it, "yep 1000 bucks" but he said it had a blown head gasket........ i wont go into the details of getting the pinkslip and all that good stuff as it was a big mess but in the end i got it towed to my garage to start this project. this is after a good wash and wax job for the paint it had ewwwww dirty non working motor i tore everything down and stripped and cleaned parts and took the e31 head off and looked at the gasket and dont see where it blew.....hmmmmmm anyways i take the head to a friends shop to get test done repaired etc..... turns out i had a 1.5 inch crack right down the combustion chamber in number 3 cylinder, got it pressure tested, cleaned, new valve guides, grinded valves, welded the crack and milled the head a bit all for 205 dollars.....sweet huh? threw everything back together over a long two month period, put new gaskets on and fianlly got this motor together and now it runs and drives......... just need to get the carbs tuned. im working on getting current pix up but theres nothing like bringing a classic z car back to life after sitting for years. :classic:
