260z Restoration
Thanks rbates!!! chrome bumber strip - you removed it after the re-paint. Was the strip riveted or simply stuck on ? -It was riveted in the door for sure but the wholes were plugged in and covered. I like your wheel/tire choice - what size are they ? -They are just the a dealer upgrade from '74 that I'm in love with. They were on the car when I got it and I will just re-polish them and keep them as they are, just a little better. Are you satisfied with the ride height ? -Yes, I love the height, I have no real reason to drop it down any Any plans to increase HP & still keep the 2.6L ? -As of right now, I just want to enjoy the engine. Gary rebuilt, bored and honed the engine, European linkage for the carbs, added a 6-1 header and build me a 2.5 inch exhaust. I already had the racing cam in the car and 240 SU's. With all the emission junk taken off the engine, I'm sitting really nice in the HP department without going crazy within the engine and making it more of a race car vs a daily driver. I am VERY satisfied with the setup I have now. It is best for what I plan on doing with this car and how I tend to use it

1974 Datsun 260z Finished Restoration
I got this Z and a donor Z together a year ago. I had the original engine fully rebuilt to and reinstalled in my Z. The body and paint were done at one garage and the engine, along with the floor repairs, were done at a different mechanic shop. Now she sits in my garage and I couldn't be happierThe rims and interior will be done in the near future too

260z Restoration
Dupuy, Anything is possible. But it all really depends on how much of the work you are going to do yourself to keep costs down and if not, what kind of money are you looking to spend in shops? Remember, the money you spend, typically, means the difference in the quality of workmanship you will get. The initial quote for just body and paint work on my car was $12k and the starting point on my engine was $2k, everything after that was all my ideas for styling and personal likes. That being said, I'm still not done and I don't think I ever really will be. I will always want to change things and update new things. This site, along with many others, has a ton of information that will help you out tremendously with doing a majority of the work yourself. So search it and see what you find.

Should be fun. Not getting much of interest from online here, but I do have some others looking to get on the track.

260z Restoration
When I got the car, I parked it in my driveway. During the rain here in Sac, I found out that the weatherstripping was bad and leaked so much water into the car. Then, after the engine was put back in after all the body work and paint was done, we found out that the control valve for the heater was leaking into the passenger side as well. So both of those combined together, did not a good floor make. As of right now, I am going to get the heater control replaced (when I can find one from someone) and then get it my factory a/c recharged and then get everything hooked back up to enjoy the awesome heat and a/c

Sacramento Raceway in July
I am looking to setup a day (4 hours) of racing here in Sacramento, Ca at the Raceway for the weekend of July 26th!!! I already have a handful of classics and randoms that are going to be there along with me and my 260 as well as my 71 Delta 88. Any and all cars are welcome to join in (but I'm sure most of you would like to run you Z's) and see what you can do at the drags. I am only able to take a set number of 25 cars for the day and I will need to get the money to reserve your spot. The location will be the Sacramento Raceway, 5305 Excelsior Rd, Sacramento, CA 95827, and will run for about 4 hours with as many hits as we can get in and a possible "friendly race bracket" to see who's the fastest that day. The cost for the day will be $125/car for the entire day. As for the day or the night, it is up for discussion. I would prefer the daytime but I know people may be commuting in order to get there so I am willing to do the nighttime instead. I am planning on putting the deposit down this weekend to reserve July 25th OR 26th. Spots are filling up a little bit and I will need to get money in hand to pay for the track ASAP. All interested please reply here with your information and I will get back to you with my personal information to get a hold of me. Hope to hear back from anyone and everyone in the area willing to have a good time and have some fun with this event.

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
I appreciate the information. The shop where my car is at is pretty amazing and I gave Gary full "carte blanche" to do what is necessary to make my car back to what it was back in the day and to last me into the future. I trust him fully and to get things done for me. If need be, I could always look into more sealers in the future.

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
Haha, that it is. I just want to be behind the wheel of my Z again. It's been a long wait. But it will all be worth it when I get behind the wheel again

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
Haha, the car has been out of MY garage since March, trust me, I want her back to drive. I just need to give her the TLC the previous owner didn't give her.

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
I absolutely know it's good news. That's why I'm happy to have it as minimal as it is with my Z. I just can't wait to see her all done and pretty. The cost and time will all be worth it. I'm not 100% what the shop is going to be putting on it to protect it but I'm sure it will be POR-15 or something of the same idea.

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
Well, here is the full extent of my floor pans. Gary Cook (mechanic) told me that the previous owner had put tar paper on the floors and then put mastic and undercoating on the car to cover all the rust. Fortunately for me, he can fix it all without having to replace the entire floor pans. I would have never imagined that my floors would have looked so bad but I couldn't have made a better decision for a mechanic. My Z is in the best of hands, for sure.

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
Yeah, they rust but I'm looking forward to getting it all fixed.... For now. It will all be done and then coated for prevention of anything further and THEN I can drive her and in a few months do the interior

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
Got my car freshly painted at the body shop and all was looking great. I then took it to the mechanic shop to get my engine put back in. However, before it could go back it, we found a piece of wood and bondo in the floor pans. So upon taking off the mastic out of the interior, this is what was found.... Not happy that this is still on my car after the it was repainted but I couldn't be happier that Gary found it for me and will be fixing it for me. I will be even happier when my Z is completely rust free. I guess my interior upgrades will have to wait a little while before I get to them.
