  1. I'm picking up a host over the weekend but didn't think about a tilt or leveler bc the engine was just placed within the empty engine bay and not real attachments but maybe AN engine mount and not attached to the tranny. I assumed that since there was nothing in the way I should be able to pull it with no real issues as long as I have assistance pulling it
  2. As the title says, I'm going to be pulling my motor and tranny to do a complete rebuilt and transplant from a dead 260 to my running 260 in my home garage and I would love any help that anyone can give me, either advice/recommendations or even hands on if you're in the Sacrameto, Ca (916) area. Please don't be shy on being blunt about your opinions bc this will be my first of atleast 3 engine rebuilds on the classic engines (I own 2 engines and am looking into picking up a 3rd) Thanks for looking in

In other forums I have seen a reference to the harnesses on http://www.ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html and with conversations with them, they can produce the exact harness for the s30's and all other datsuns. How would yours relate to those are is this wise I've looked at a poor value harness?
  4. I agree with you on this very much so. But my Z is in running condition already, I would like to change out the hoses right off the bad and as for the carbs, I am running the stock round tops but I did also get a full on cards car with 2 other sets of carbs (be it they both need to be rebuild) the weber side mount top induction ones as well as some flat top SUs (which I would like to put on to my 260). But I will be taking this car one problem at a time and knowing a good starting point is helpful bc at the same time that I will be making my 260z a great everyday driver, I am going to be rebuilding its stock engine with any and all power mods (keeping it's stock matching numbers engine in it) as possible that I pulled from the parts car. I did however, just notice a slight issue with my Z. The throttle can go about 2/3 the way to the floor with good resistance, then it just hits the floor boards and the throttle stays wide open until the kill the engine. I'm going to have to examine that issue real quick. Any advise on that would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Okay, that makes sense. I was just unsure of the option of being able to strap on a turbo with limited fabrication or if it was more cost effective to drop in the 280zx engine or just buy the engine from sites online that come with everything needed in them to drop into the engine (sr20 setups). I was going more for the "can I keep the stock engine in it with a turbo" vs drop a whole different engine into the bay. If the cost is better to put a new engine in I will. The only thing I won't do it drop a 350 in.
  6. I have just purchased a 1974 260Z and I am use to all my newer sports cars with the turbos and I was curious if there is any kits or any other way to turbo charge the l26 engine as it sits. I understand modifications may need to be made to other parts of the car but I was curious if it was possible to do in all. I have looked all over this site and noticed that mostly everyone refers people to hybridzcar.com but I'm not a member there (yet), so I can't see what they have to say. I also noticed there was a UK turbo from JANSPEED but most people said was no good. I would prefer to get a newer setup then that. I also noticed that a TT was a harder idea then necessary so I was looking into a single turbo setup. Thanks everyone for the help.
  7. then flat-tops is will be. Everything that I have seen has pretty much said the same thing
  8. I was hoping for more of a comfortable ride and the old owner of my running 240 said that it was a real rough ride and he had to gas it a lot to get it more smooth
  9. I completely agree with you. I planned on having both the sets of spare carbs rebuilt before I try to install anything and then sell of the others
  10. The webers are a DGV for sure. I didn't think that the rebuild kits would be too hard to find with all the research that I have been doing and seeing the different companies and places that rebuild them for people. I kind of assumed they would also be able to sell the kit and THEZSTORE.com seems to have full rebuild kits. Are those no good? (not sure what the 32/36DGV stands for)
  11. I bought a 1974 260z this past weekend and along with this Z came a non running "parts" Z that had a ton of extra parts, motor and transmission. My main question to everyone is this.... My '74 260z appears to have on its stock carbs but the parts Z had 2 sets of different carbs: flat tops from another Z and double barrel webber carbs on a cannon intake. What is the best choice for me knowing I will have to rebuild the 2 extra carbs?
  12. I have just received a 1974 260z in pretty good shape. Minimal surface rust on the lip of the front skirt. The transmission is the stock 4 speed and the engine is a swap from the same year and model Z. The guy who I bought it from also gave me the transplant car the engine was from bc it is a great "roller and parts car" and is holding the stock matching numbers engine for my drivable Z. I have been researching this car for some time now but I am curious of what everyone recommends to be my first things to check/upgrade/modify/tune. Thanks very much and please check out the photos that I have uploaded and give me and any all tips/advice/recommendations.

Thank you all for your help so far. The women I have been talking to about buying her '71 240z doesn't have the car on site so she doesn't know the production time for it off hand (unfortunately). As for getting the harness from ezwiring.com, the only question I would have would be the same as the questions and concerns from those with the other posts, that is "is the wiring going to be color coated just like the original?" I am not a wiring guy at all so I need it to be like "wiring for dummies". A little more info on the car interested in buying: re-finished and painted/coated interior of original gas tank with new lines run. Also, new brake like and master cylinder installed, heater and ac were taken out years ago (don't know if and where I could get other ones to put back into the car). Where could I get a new fuse box that could be able to maintain a better and more constant power source?

I am looking into purchasing a '71 240z and the current owner of the vehicle said that the car use to shut headlights off randomly and that the fuse box would constantly heat up. To me this sounds like a short somewhere within the wiring harness and COULD be fixed. However, she is recommending a new harness (which I can't find around). I am no master in wiring what so ever and I am brand new to the world of the Z. I would love some input by you guys to tell me what I could be in for IF i pick this car up and what I should do to fix any problems with the wiring. SIDE NOTE: The owner (older female) said that her and her ex were fixing the car up little by little and tried to fix this problem. I am thinking that they could have botched the the wiring when they TRIED to FIX the issues they were encountering
  17. My name is Herman and I am TRYING to pick up a restorable 240/260. I have found a few in my area that have decent bodies but ALL have engine or tranny issues. The one I like the most needs a new wiring harness (or so I was told by the owner) bc the wires are getting hot and heating up the fuse box. The issue I have with that (besides never trusting the seller) is that I can't find a wiring harness for this car for the life of me. If anyone has ANY advise for me I would really appreciate it.
