Starting the ole girl
It was working properly before the bypass until all it would do was click over I bypassed the key ignition. As for the different starters I had purchases a new 260 starter and it did the same thing. ( the only difference between the starters should be the amount of tork they put out )When I bought the 260z it had the original 4 spd in it and i swapped it out for the 5spd, Never was auto. And the overrun clutch? I am sorry I guess my knowledge of starters isnt that advanced, however I would assume the new starter would have had an overrun clutch that wasnt bad. If anyone needs pictures of what I am dealing with just let me know and ill go get what you need to better assess the situation.

Starting the ole girl
So what i am dealing with is a 74 260z coupe with a 5 speed from a 280z and the starter on it is from a 280zx. Initially I use to have issues with the key ignition just clicking over, so I bypassed that with a push start to turn the starter over, after that resulted in the same outcome after a good while I decided to install a stand alone starter silinoid and ran the push start to it then to the starter. Now my issue is the start just spins, Ive had the started tested at a local autoparts retailer and it passed, I even tried a new starter and new battery all with the same outcome, When looking at the flywheel it doesnt seem to be to far gone that it wouldnt be engaging. One odd thing is if I jump the starter it will spin but shortly after that i can hit the push start and it will engage... SOMETIMES. I am really baffled with what to do from this point if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate your help.

Do people notice you in your classic Z on the road?
Everywhere I go they love my car, Me and my dad were on a roadtrip to NewMexico last summer and we had girls takin pictures of us at this gas station we stopped at, Then one time in Arizona I got pulled over the cop walked half way to my car and turned around, got in his car and drove off. Im convinced he just wanted to look at my car. Setting those two experiences aside, every time I take my car out I get atleast 1 complement regardless of where I go. I love my 260z.

Rebuild or just run it as is? Used L28 and 5 Speed Trans.
I have a 74 260z myself and the first thing i did was swap out the 4 speed for a 5 speed. LOVE IT. luckily my L26 already had the dual webbers with the K&N airfilters. Major bonus there =] But Eventually Id like to see how a L28 out of a zx turbo would do.

Getting the most for my buck
Okay so I have a 74 260z that im looking to get as much torque and acceleration as I can. I have the basic 2.6 with dual webers on it with headers and all the emission junk removed. Ive replaced the starter, water pump, radiator fan clutch, upgraded the 4 speed to a 5 speed tranny replaced the brake booster, master cylinder, the clutch master and slave cylinder. What I have left to do is get the alternator rebuilt or replaced, replace the coil, get the headlight harness Dave makes, and replace the gas cap (the one I have doesn't seal and when i take left turns with a full tank of gas i loss my fuel) also I kinda want to upgrade to a stage 2 cam and redo the differential to get some serious torque... Unfortunately I dont know what I already have... havent checked but what I would like to know is what would upgrading the cam and changing the gear ratio do for me? and how or what do i need to do or get to achieve the most get up and go of the line?

Harmonic balancer help. Please?
Thank you Diseazd that helps alot. Now all I have to do is look for parts. Hopefully the timing marks are on the pulley that didnt separate.

Harmonic balancer help. Please?
I have a 1974 260z with a 2.6L and the harmonic balancer has 2 pulleys and the inner pulley has separated. I was wonder if anyone would know what different years of balancer/pulley would fit the 74 motor. Im just now starting to search for parts. Thank you.
