  1. The breather just comes out too far bit its an easy fix with the kn filter. I had mine chopped down and it would have worked bit then the air box for the SUs doesn't fit so that was the end of that. You've got triples? This thing was made for them for certain. As for the header you're first in line, its gotta go as I'm already tripping over the Stahl one plus the exhaust that was used for that system, and a pile of random 911 parts for the other thing.
  2. Once you're aft of the steering tube, its all good to go, the only issue is the breather tube that had to be removed and replaced with a K&N one. I can measure the flange later tonight but it's thick and it looks the same as the Fujitsubo one.
  3. Here you go...and this is only with respect to the primaries contacting the steering shaft, not the impact around other items like the heat near the SU's, etc. As you can see, the primaries have been "clearanced" as far as I am willing to go. This also included shimming the motor mounts to gain some clearance. More monkeying around than I was interested in so here we go, round 3...
  4. All great conversation here for sure, as for a middle pipe from stock manifolds to aftermarket exhaust, Whitehead Performance lists one on their site. As for my situation, I also think the SG header was designed for triples and not SU's. I'm staying with my SU's for now so I think the Fujitsubo header is the way to go, and if that presents a fitment issue to the balance of the SG system, then we will address that then. I'm going to order the header this weekend and will update the thread when it comes in...cheers. Header is ordered, Fujitsubo Super EX Header Exhaust Manifold - Part number : 510-15037 from RHD Japan. When it arrives, I am going to have it ceramic coated before hand. Now to find a new heat shield after mine was all chopped up to fit over the SG header. I also couldn't run the crank breather nor could I run the stock air box with the SG header. I am appreciative of @duffymahoney and his thread where he shows great detail around his Fujitsubo experience.
  5. Thanks to all. I can share some pics for interest sake this weekend. I've already attempted to gain clearance with heat and I am concerned that if I go any further, the primary will crack. At the end of the day, the header is a square peg in a round hole for a lhd vehicle. Cheers guys.
  6. Yep you got it...moreover, if there is any standardization where the header terminates and the mid section attaches...I fully realize this is more stupidity on my part. Duff did his exhaust complete around the same time as I did mine, his is fully documented as fitting very well. I am just trying to avoid junking the entire SG system if I can, and the only way I will know for sure is if I pull the trigger on the Fujitsubo header. Having said all this, the SG system is a thing of beauty. Too bad they can't fit a LHD vehicle, ugh...more garage header art next to the the Stahl one it replaced I suppose.
  7. Thanks guys...the balance of the Spirit Garage exhaust from the header back fits quite well. It seems the flanges for the headers may be in a similar location but I am not keen to find out the hard way $$$. I attempted to contact Spirit Garage directly but it didn't work out, the guys at RHD Japan were able to do so and it was a big help. Big warning to those who look on the listing for RHD Japan and others, the Spirit Garage header will NOT fit without some serious bending of spendy stainless primaries, and likley cutting. It would be an ugly outcome I am afraid. Any more feedback, keep it coming!
  8. Hi all, Seems the exhaust section doesn't see a lot of traffic so I am posting this here. Back story; I picked up a complete Spirit Garage exhaust system header to tailpipe and the header is a bad choice for a LHD car. There is significant impact to the steering shaft from the first 2 primaries and the profile of the primaries are not a good fit for SU's with a heat shield. Painful and expensive lesson learned but I am ready to move forward as opposed to spending a bundle with someone trying to cut and weld this header. Anyway it seems the Fujitsubo header (PN 510-15037) is the logical fit as a replacement option that will clear the steering shaft easily and support an SU heat shield with way less origami treatment that what I had to do with the SG header. My concern is if I can use the Spirit Garage exhaust without modification to the header flange? Whitehead claims the following with respect to the Fijitsubo Legalis R exhaust: "This system is perfectly matched and bolts up directly to the following Datsun L-series L24 L28 headers: Kameari Equal Length S.S. Exhaust Header, GReddy Exhaust Header, Spirit Garage Exhaust Header, all available through Whitehead Performance." I am wondering if there are any standards for the JDM headers where the flanges are concerned? I am guessing no...so worst case, I buy the Fujitsubo header now and if it doesn't bolt up easily, I can have it modified or order the balance of the exhaust. Anyway I have not had the best of luck with my Z's exhaust due to my own stupidity haha. Thanks for reading...
  9. Thanks, I've followed his thread and am planning around it but with a nimso pump. It seems these brackets are in short supply so I'm going to have one made up in the meantime.
  10. Hey all, I'm looking to add an electric fuel pump to my 73 240Z and it never originally had one installed. I have been in contact with a few vendors but no results as of yet so if someone has a lead on one, let me know? BTW my car is a 4/73 build and the electric fuel pump wasn't dealer retrofitted either. Thanks!

I have the Spirit Garage system on my 240Z. It is a thing of beauty, RHD Japan super easy to extract the cash out of me and it fits amazingly well...until you realize it was developed for a RHD 240Z when you go to connect your steering arm. I had to "massage" 2 of the primaries and am not super happy with the result, it fits great but the clearance effort is not great. I am going to have to take this to someone who can modify two of the primaries waaay better than I can. One other point, this header is made for triple carbs as the profile for the primaries means you turn your SU heat shield into origami. I also have laying around in my garage one of the last, if not the last, header that Stahl built. For all I had read and had known about Stahl headers I was very surprised to see it arrive with a thin flange that meant we had to have shims cut down to clamp it on properly. It's a nice header but painful. I really should get it out of there at some point.
  12. View Advert WTB: 240Z Electric Fuel Pump Bracket Hi all, If anyone has an electric fuel pump bracket, I believe the PN is 17033-E4200, please let me know. Somehow it is missing off my '73, the wiring is present and functional but I have a NIMSO pump on the way and zap straps aren't gonna cut it! Many thanks!! 13. Wow great work, duff! I have a new to me 5 speed close ratio 5 speed rebuilt by Whitehead which is great with the 3.70 clsd but I have felt in occasion steeper gears would be work. Yours is going to be super fun. Enjoy!
  14. We're in the same boat...mine definitely sweeps OK, it just sweeps the span from full to empty out of scale, if that makes any sense. Plus the car has been running rich so it chugs the fuel like no tomorrow. That was dealt with this weekend. Anyway I am going to pull it out perhaps this weekend and run the car out of gas at the house. Then pull the sender and see what's up. It is all in the "as full restored" state and was a brand new sender when the tank was boiled, etc, during the restoration. Unfortunately I simply threw the original sending unit away long ago...cheers.
  15. I am in the exact same boat, sort of anyway...I find that mine will show almost full right upon filling the tank but has about 1/4 tank upon empty which doesn't make a ton of sense, to me anyway. Suggestions?

I spent a gross amount of money on all braided hoses on my car. Porsche also used braided hose like this here: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/N0203711-MFG21.aspx Might be tricky to find one for coolant for obvious reasons...side note; I somehow managed to nick one of the float bowl soft rubber hoses on my front SU and drip, drip, drip gas right onto a hot header, oops. Anyway I now have pretty cool braided hose from a Porsche on both SU's as I had to wait a bit on the Datsun replacement hoses.

Awesome thread! Your car will be terrific when it's back for sure. Just make sure to extend those damn cowl drains to the exit point on the front fender/ rocker.

Maybe you can pick up something off this recent bat listing of a 73 that appears quite original. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-datsun-240z-84/ Nice hammer price too.

Thanks, KONI Lee, for adding some color to the discussion, I am definitely ordering a set for my 240Z.

Set to zero with the car off then adjust with the collar if necessary...the brass fitting screws into the same threads as the damper so it is sealed. I should load up a video but this shows the tool in action, albeit on a rolls:

I would not be able to close the hood and the shaft needs to be straight in order to function correctly. You could perhaps cushion the hood for a quick and safe run on empty road to read the gauge from the car. I could clearly see the readings from the drivers seat but I wouldn't recommend it. I do have a unisync and could definitely try reading flow on that at 3000 rpms later today. I will report back.
