  1. It was a quick post for help! I will get pics up soon...as for the heat shield protection i still need the SU carb return spring attached so I think this will result in a bend / cut / swear modification to the existing heat shield. Back at it tonight...thanks for the tip, Sean, on the heat shield material, I will check it out.
  2. Spirit Garage header to tailpipe system is on the car. I decided to replace all the head studs so that slowed be down a bit, the MSA kit I used previously I was not overly happy with so I went to Nissan, all good to go. In my case the header's first primary did indeed contact the steering shaft so it had to be worked for clearance, it is likely designed for a RH drive car, understandably. The crankcase breather has to be cut down and tapered for the header to fit or you can use one off a 280. The rest of the kit's fit an finish is awesome and it is tucked up nicely. I have an '87 Turbo CLSD R200 and the pipes fit around it without any issue. One thing I haven't resolved yet is a heat shield for my SU's...the stock heat shield was already cut in one spot to fit the Stahl and unless someone can direct me to a better solution, it seems I will have to so a bunch more cutting and bending again so I am open to any suggestions. I have searched and searched but all that seems to be out there are ones for triples...thanks guys.
  3. The header never joins the front 3 and back 3 primary pipes...the system is 3 and 3 all the way through, at least that's the config in the SG system.
  4. The SG header flange is exactly the same as the intake manifold, no need for any machine work or stepped washers. I'm really impressed with the design and build quality and as soon as the manifold gasket arrives (I ordered 2 as I am positive I will wreck one along the way) I will get this onto the car.
  5. FYI Fedex finally got out of their own way and I unboxed the SG system. It is a work of art and super well built, at first glance. It will be a few days before I can install it as I await intake / exhaust gaskets from Nissan / Courtesy but soon as it arrives I am going to install it. I think this will fit around the R200 no problems plus with the slip fit strategy around the rear section you will have some room to work with. I'm super stoked with the system so far, plus the header flange is the correct size, imagine that
  6. Sure...I have the never ending joy of fitting the new kit with 12" of space in my garage but I will do what I can to share some pics and the installation experience. I managed to pull down the existing exhaust and the Stahl header this weekend without too much pain. As for the 2 clamps, I think they use clamps post center section so you have some wiggle room around things like diffs. I am really, really hoping this system does indeed tuck up nicely into the transmission tunnel as the Vibrant Performance one I was using didn't and would hang up...it clearly caused a crack in the weld at the header / collector joint. Fingers crossed and ya I know, hope is not a strategy but its the best one I have!
  7. FYI the Spirit Garage system I ordered on March 30th is being delivered to my office today...it would have been here about a week ago but FedEx, well whatever...RHDJapan shipped it in about 3 days which I was really surprised about, and it was in Oakland, CA about 3 days after that.
  8. Perfect thanks! I figure that since I have to pull down the exhaust anyway for the incoming Spirit Garage kit now is the time to move forward with a close ratio 5 speed. I have mostly stared at my 240Z for a while during a rolling restoration of a 911 but that car is done so it is time for the "last mile" treatment on the Z. Cheers.
  9. That would be terrific if you have his contact handy...I am looking for turn key from a reputable source so having a plan b is important. PM me if that's OK with you, cheers.
  10. I"m not that far away Zed Head, just up in Vancouver, BC...point taken on CA Datsun, thanks. I may have found a suitable candidate here in town and will let you know, thanks so much.
  11. Sounds good, thanks...I'm completely OK going that route for sure. I have dealt with Datsun Spirit for a few things when I was finishing the car so I will touch base with him again.
  12. Sorry to bump an old thread but I am in the same boat as goldmember, any suggestions towards a reputable provider? Cheers.
  13. Shipping on or about April 5th, looking forward to it.
  14. In three weeks or less, we'll know the definitive answer. From all I can see, and all that has been posted in this thread, the passenger side pipe appears to be extended far enough out. I would contact SG directly but there is a bit of a communication barrier...hmmm....I hit their site again with google translator and it seems my note was in fact submitted. So we'll see what they come back with...from some of the builds they have done I would think a CLSD R200 would be necessary to get the power on the road.
  15. It is designed to "split" the diff and follow the diff mount "hollows" in 2 pipes.
  16. Only what they show on RHDjapan which is a retread of what Spirit Garage shows on their site...which I had to use google translator...https://www.rhdjapan.com/spirit-garage-stainless-dual-muffler-exhaust-manifold-header-set-42mm-240zg-s30-s31.html You can scroll through the images and you can see the mid and tail pipes towards the end of the batch.
  17. I would say the SG header is absolutely cut and weld but stainless whereas my header from Stahl is bent steel. By cut and weld, be aware I'm referring to the pipe post collector that I built on my car. I want the SG stainless end to end, with the design for the features where the mid pipes tuck the resonators correctly.
  18. I finished the restoration of my car a few years ago so primarily I lurk on the forums but I have never been happy with my exhaust. The header is, from what I was told, the last L2x header Stahl built from 1.5" primaries to a 2.25" then a collector to a 2.5" 304 stainless pipe, vibrant performance resonator and a set of ANSA double stack tailpipes....the stainless pipe was not bent, it was cut and welded so I'm into this exhaust for a ton of dough as I wasn't aware of options back in 2011 when I was moving through this phase of my build. Anyway I haven't been thrilled with the exhaust so it is coming off the car, header and all for a Spirit Garage full kit. I like the idea behind the Spirit Garage kit and the build looks pretty awesome, I ordered this week and look forward to receiving it for Spring. Thanks for everyone who contributed to this thread, it was very helpful and my existing exhaust will likely go up for sale at some point after installation.
  19. That is great, thanks a lot for the confirmation. There did not seem to be any alternative but wanted to confirm before the tin snips made an appearance.
  20. Ok so I was one of those who threw down for Vintage Rubber kit and was less than impressed. All the seals fit OK except for the doors and the rear hatch seals so I scoured and spent $$$ for OE in these areas. Anyway I think the door seals I ended up with are likely for a 280 but whatever, they fit well and the issue with the VR seals is the metal U is ever so slightly thicker than the OE one therefore I, too, experienced the door slamming issues in spite of trying every trick in the book to sort it out. Anyway I installed one of the seals today and it seems like it is about 1.5" to long...the seal is on perfectly so the only thing I can think of is this needs to be trimmed off, is that the same experience others had? There is a small section at the end of the seal that does not have the metal U in it, only the seal portion if that makes any sense…but it seems like this and the 1.5” portion of the U shaped metal potion needs to be cut off. In short, the new seal is about 3” longer than the Vintage Rubber one. BTW I ditched the inner and outer hatch seals which was a real pita to install but the hatch sits a lot less proud now. I think the adhesive glue is finally scraped off my fingertips.
  21. I hope this works for you but I am in a similar boat after having fooled around with vintage rubber seals I gave up and dropped a was on NOS door and hatch seals. The profile for both the hatch and doors of the VR is simply too thick versus the NOS seals. Frustrated but glad not to have to slam doors shut any longer.
  22. Well just like that, either the seller got cold feet, an offer came from outside ebay or he / she has found another method of marketing the car as the auction has been ended with no bids. Hardway made a note about full restoration cars selling for $20 - $25K, I suppose there are varying levels of restorations, however given the cost of NOS parts, shopped out body work, machine shop rates and other items such as chrome and plating services, a full on restoration of a solid foundation car can easily eclipse $50k. That owner would of course be way long on what the market would bear however I keep a half eye open and have seen a number of cars over the past 2 years sell in the $40K range. Given the attraction of the Vintage Z program, I bet this car went for around $50k.
  23. As one who went through an extensive and exhaustive restoration, which will never be considered "concours" as it does not have the original block, or exhaust, I'm curious to see where this lands. At $35K I would have been very interested although the journey was pretty fun. I suppose that although the body and interiour on mine is 100% stock, the car would be consdiered a "resto mod" since it has a CLSD and the L26 block, E31 head, stahl header and 1972 carbs...anyway good luck to the seller for sure and thanks to the OP for the head's up. Any guesses on the Reserve? I'm surprised that this hasn't shown up on BAT yet.

I, too, like to see the closing statement when I look at my over restored car as follows: "Damn near anybody these days will tell you that the 240Z is going up, up, up…neatly into the realm of collector-car status, a future classic in flux, right to where those European grand tourers have been for the past 20 years." Perhpas I will be able to break even in about 30 years or so,

FYI you should come down to the Sechelt during the Sleepy Hollow run & show in August. We have a summer place over there and I will put my car in the show. This is one of the best car shows / weekends ever and if you're in the area it shouldn't been missed. Again, sorry for treading over the OP's thread...
