  1. Actually, they make Altimas, Maximas, Xterras and Frontiers in Tennessee. They make Armadas, Titans, Quests, and more Altimas in Mississippi. Sentras are made in Mexico and everything else (Z's and Infinities) comes from Japan. Mike

    I second the Koni recommendation, Messley can get them as well. Having tried 300 front and 275 pound rear springs, then switching them to 275 front and 300 rear (required a matching sway bar change), I liked the lighter fronts better. More bite under braking and turn in, lap times were quicker at WSIR as well. Mike

I still have all the tires, although I think someone's coming to pick up the 14's this week. If not, I'll get back with the folks who asked about those.     If any of you Phoenix guys are looking for something to do this weekend, stop by PIR. HSR-West is holding vintage races there, and the Kruse auction is at the same location. I'll be there with the CP car (for sale sign attached). HSR has promoted me to the big bore group, meaning I'll be running against the V8 cars. I'm not worried, they can't get their cars around corners, and PIR is pretty tight. The only other 6 cyl cars in the big bore group are a pair of facotry sponsored Jaguar E types, and they have 4.2 liter engines. Stop by and say hi, it should be a great weekend. Mike
  7. Hi John, I figured you bought that yellow car since the ebay ad disappeared the same day we emailed each other. I'm taking my car to HSR-West in Phoenix the end of Jan. If I have the money, and the car isn't sold yet, I'll see you at the Feb VARA event. I'm really hoping it sells in Phoenix. The HSR event is being held in conjunction with the Kruse auction, so maybe some guy will get bitten by the racing bug and take my car home. Mike Eckhaus

  9. I have a set of four 225/50/15 Bridgestone RE71 tires AND a set or four 225/60/14 Yokohama A509 tires that I was originally going to use for rain tires for my race car. All tires have 75 to 80 percent tread left (guaranteed - no exagerating like you find on ebay or elsewhere.) They're just taking up space right now, so make a reasonable offer for one or both sets. I would prefer local pickup (SoCal), but if you want them shipped, I'll figure shipping costs and get them out to you. Mike

  12. We have similar events in the US. They are usually called time trials or solo 1 events. Very similar to what you described, with one car at a time being timed. It is common to have three or four cars actually on the track at the same time, although they are spaced so that they shouldn't catch each other. Safety requirements for those type of events vary greatly. Some organizations require full racing equipment, roll cages, nomex, etc. Some allow street cars with the drivers in helmets, but otherwise street clothes. Tech inspection also varies by club, but usually basic safety equipment is checked like seat belts, brake lights, no leaks, good brakes, moving parts in good shape, etc. So, there is no one standard here in the states. Naturally, we also have lapping days, where people can bring their street cars to a track and run them in a non-competitive, passing restricted environment, driving schools using either the students' or the school's own cars, and full on race events. Virtually all events have a medical staff and flaggers/marshals present to assist. Some use the entrants themselves as the flaggers, although this is mostly reserved for non-competition events. Many clubs are now combining several of these kinds of events so they can serve all audiences. See www.touringcarclub.com for one example. Hope this helps. Mike

    When my car had the ITS motor in it, it was able to meet 90 db through a Nissan Motorsport header, a 3" exhaust, with a Borla race muffler and a 90 turnout to the left after the muffler. It was pretty darn loud on the left side of the car, but almost silent on the right. Now that I have a 13:1 compression motor in, I'm not sure if it will still pass, but I would think it would be close. The best thing to do is get the exhaust exiting either to the left or on the left side of the car. When I had my Corvette, I normally ran dual exhaust with no mufflers. At Laguna I would add a pair of Supertrapps, but I had to run so few discs (11), that the car lost about 50 hp (out of 430) and 500 rpm off the top end. Mike

  15. Hi, My name is Mike and I'm a fast car-aholic. I currently have a 1972 240 that I am using for vintage and club racing. The former owner ran the car in ITS, but I am busy removing weight and adding horsepower to make it competitive in CP. This is the first race car I have owned that didn't have a V8, but it's just as much fun and way easier to work on. Previous race cars have been a 1993 Corvette (Showroom Stock racer) a highly modified 1994 Corvette, which won the 2000 PRO racing series championship and compteted in Speedvision World Challenge, and a Superformance Cobra replica, which did some vintage and club racing as well. I got interested about a year ago, when a freind of mine (Stephen Johnstone - on this forum) invited me to co-drive his ITS Z car in a vintage enduro. We started last (didn't qualify) and finished 4th in a car that cost only a couple grand. The next day I started looking for a Z of my own. I'll post some race car pics soon. Mike
  16. I think a well prepared 240 could run with any early 911. Since we get to run CP3 with VARA, there really is a bunch of leeway. I spoke with another person prepping a Z for VARA, who also owns a BP car. Basically, whatever you want to do will fly as long as you stay within the spirit of the original rules. I'm also converting my ITS car to a vintage CP car currently. With tripple carbs and a well built motor, we should be pushing 300 hp. John Morton's car was over 300 hp in 1972, certainly it could be done again with today's technology in cams, etc. Four wheel disc brakes are already installed, and the car is going on a serious diet. With the ITS record at Willow already down at 1:34, a well done CP vintage car should be at least a few secs faster than that. I haven't seen anyone in a CP vintage car run under 1:32, and most aren't under 1:35. Imagine how freaked out those guys are going to be when we start running sub 1:30 in a Z car. Probably get bumped to BP and have to run with the big bore cars. I don't think my car handles well enough to get that quick yet, but it could be done. If your target is 200 hp, that is a snap. The motor we took out is a Rebello 2.4 ITS bottom end, a ported N42 head with a decent cam, a modified OEM intake and original SUs, ran on pump gas. That motor was at least 200 hp, maybe 215 (at the crank). That motor is going to be available once the big motor is done. I didn't have a chance to run it at Willow with that combo, so I don't have a good laptime for comparison, but I think it was probably about a 1:36-1:37 car. Mike
