Wheel Identification & Tire Size?
Well that doesn't bad and it'd be nice to not have to spray them up with clear coat, good tip. Yeah the rivets on mine didn't look like they're be a a walk in the park to remove but definitely possible.

Wheel Identification & Tire Size?
Yes the rivets definitely look like they'll come out however I think stripping the clear coat, polishing and recoating them will be the extent of my restoring of these. Definitely will check out that tal-strip though.

Appliance Wheel Refinishing
Sounds like what my tired could use, but I don't think they're worth that much new heh!

What is this part?
Thank you for putting the simplicity of that into perspective, i always think about getting the exact thing and the resourceful part of my mind jumps the boat heh.

What is this part?
Well this is for a FI L28 from a 77, and it should be on this page http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsunS30/DatsunFairladyZIndex/Engine280Z/CylinderHead/tabid/1600/Default.aspx I really do not see it on there.. Blue do you know where I could get a new one of these?

What is this part?
I've looked at the diagrams showing what each part is for the Z's but I cannot find what this little pipe is. As you can see in the picture it pretty rusted, and what you can't see is on the other side it's actually crushed in.. Anyhow this definitely needs replacing! Edit: this is the thermostat housing if it isn't obvious sorry.

Rewinds vs RBs
Now that would be pretty awesome if you could get them for a deal right from ROTA! And by right from, you mean from the distributor you mentioned cosmic or cosmik?
-
Rewinds vs RBs
Wonder if that can be accredited to any better quality on the RB's?

Wheel Identification & Tire Size?
Those look great Mike! I've been looking at different size tires and reading reviews of different tires and found some cool ones but there are so many choices and sizes. This helps a lot considering I can see some differences in tire and our wheels are the same size. Also about your Appliance wheels, you said you just refurbished them? I cleaned these wheels up but the clear coat is starting to come off on a few little areas and there are some scratches and dings on them, can you post a link to the thread you mentioned about that?

Wheel Identification & Tire Size?
Great exactly the info I needed! Well the Z should be up and running hopefully in the next month or two and then I'll slap some tires on the new wheels and see how she likes em !

Wheel Identification & Tire Size?

Well my Z isn't going to be a track Z that is for sure, so stock manifold it will be. As for the MSA exhaust I've heard good things about MSA and their exhaust packages and I don't know a lot about exhaust so it seemed an easy and good route. However I'd love to support a local shop especially a good one, and if they can install or build a good exhaust setup for a reasonable price. What is a good local exhaust shop? You mentioning too big an exhaust can hurt performance and that thread in reply to that comment has got me thinking a lot about exhaust, it's such a key part of performance I really need to read up on it more.

how to rebuild your nissan / datsun ohc
Interesting link blue! I lost track of time reading through some of those old articles on Datsun. I couldn't find a PDF format, I know on Amazon you can "Search inside this book" under the image on that books page and they have pages scanned in, I don't think it's the whole book but it looked like they have quite a few. Might want to at least check it out.. Anyhow I own this book and have read it a few times and have referenced it many times during the removal and dismantling of my engine, very helpful resource! You won't be disappointed.

Wheel Identification & Tire Size?
Well when I search for American Racing Directionals they come up, and nothing else results in them. Thanks for the help with identifying them! Now 5th you're saying 235 60 14 caused rubbing, until you replaced the springs but still rubs on bumps? It looks like clearance is fine from the top and sides of tire so was it rubbing against the sides?

Wheel Identification & Tire Size?
Alright well this morning I cleaned the wheels up and they are look really good! As for identifying them one cap still has a logo on it, big M and Modern under it. I have had NO luck looking them up on google. Each wheel has a stamp saying INSP. July 18 1988, so I'm guessing that is around the time they were manufactured? The PO said that in the 80's those were "the wheels to have!" Anyhow I'd really appreciate it if anyone knows what these are, here are some picture of them cleaned up!

Z Train, is that the setup you have? And why do you suggest that, I've been reading all over about different exhaust setups and actually hearing the stock manifold is great and I'm thinking I might keep the manifold and get MSA's premium exhaust to stock manifold setup.

Wheel Identification & Tire Size?
Well I've been wanting to get some nice Rota RB's but stylish wheels are not anywhere near the top of my priority list for my Z. However I'm going to definitely need new tires and I don't want to throw them on the black nasty stock rims, even with hubcaps... So I went to the all mighty craigslist! Picked these up for a bargain! They are 14x6's, two out of four caps but that's not a big deal for me as those are replaceable and not the important thing. They look straight and are in great condition (just dusty). First of all can anyone identify these wheels? One of the two caps says "Modern" and there is a symbol, I can get a better picture of it tomorrow after I clean them up.. as you can see I haven't even taken them out of my truck. Secondly I don't know a great deal about wheels or tires and I'm wondering what size tires I should put on these? Thanks!

What On Earth, is THIS?
That is a very good point! well hopefully when I run a hose through it will flush out anything in there. Thanks for all the pointers guys!
-
What On Earth, is THIS?
My dad and I figured it was some type of "pour in fix" for the water pump or cooling system.. It's texture is that of petroleum jelly and it is scentless.. Anyhow a longggg flush is indeed to come. The thrmo and housing don't look bad or have any signs of this gunk on them but I already have a new thrmostat. When I got the car the heater core was bi-passed and I have yet to get to it, however I'm thinking it might turn out to be another "pleasant surprise" I like the missing fin Leon, it almost looks like something you would find washed up at a beach..
-
What On Earth, is THIS?
Ok, a little over-dramatic title, but none the less I was pretty shocked upon seeing this... So I removed my water pump and found this inside of it.. Yes the rust is expected, however the weird jelly? Is this common, or at least on an old sitting pump like this. There was more of this in the water pump cavity on the engine of course, so I scraped and wiped it out, I'm going to shine a flashlight down the cooling passage and see if there's more down there. On a side note now I want to flush out the coolant passages on the block again, any special ways of doing this or should I just run a hose to it and flush with water?

Rewinds vs RBs
So you're saying a 15x6 with a +10mm offset would be fine, but a 15x9 with a 10mm offset may very well not work because the offset is from the center of the wheel's alignment?

Pressure Plate Positioning?
Hmm maybe I'm missing something.. I'll go have another look at the whole get-together tomorrow morning and see if I can see what you're talking about, thanks for the infos.
