Dash swap 260z to 77 280z
Thanks Ed and St stephen I did the search and the thread I found was the one that originally educated me on the damage of UV rays. the only product mentioned for protection was a "Mothers" product to be applied every 30 days. What I wanted to know is there a product that would bring the old dash up to new dash protection. The Ultimate question is should I have my dash recovered with vynil that has the UV protection in it around $600 to $800 or buy a used factory dash for a over half of that, which may someday crack anyway. thanx again

Dash swap 260z to 77 280z
I came across a clean 260 dash would like to know if I can use this in my 77 280 I understand the wire harness and guages are different (those i presume can be swapped) other than that will this work? Also being a factory dash there is no UV protection is there a paste, spray or something that can be applied (outside of regular car care products) to protect it?

Inner fender weatherstrip
your input is appreciated. Escanlon your 2 cents just bought you a beer should our paths cross. Couple questions: how far under the engine bay does that drain tube run, from the picture looks as though it's fairly long, I'd probably would just want to clear the fender. On the 77-78z's (mine is 77) the inner fender is more extensive than the early years, should I still use some close foam tape on the inside edge as you suggest?

Inner fender weatherstrip
There is a weatherstrip that fits between the top rail of the engine fender and inside the top of the outer fender. When I removed the fenders I don't recall this piece although it seems the fenders have not been removed before. MSA has them for $27. The question is: is this a simple U channel strip and what the consistancy of it (is it foamy or solid or maybe that gooey tape stuff). Can it be replaced w/ something generic? Also the small flat portions that the fender sits on I was thinking I would use double sided tape (you know the kind w/ a little foam thickness to it). While I'm at it are the fender emblem holes the same for the one's w/ designation (260z, 280z) as they are for the one's that just say Datsun?

Blasphemy!?
There's a trend amoungst the tuners or ricers (which i consider myself to be one). to install turbo rotery engines in 510s. Has this swap ever been performed into a z (no thanks i'll keep my L28). In this months issue of the ricer rag Sport Compact Car thay have such a 510 duking it out w/ eclipses, MrII, Supra and even a Viper. The 30yo car seems to old its own against such modern muscle. Also in this street car challenge is a 98 skyline GT-R. I thought the Skyline wasn't available stateside. Like the Biker said "its not what you ride it's that you ride"

Countrys worst speed trap
In all these post I haven't read anything about radar vans. I live in the Denver, Co. Metro area. These are unmarked mid-size vans equippped w/ radar and photgraph equipment, when the radar reads three mph over the speed limit it takes photographs of both the driver and the plate (usually don't realize this till you get a flash in your eyes). Usually manned by a min. wage employee that lies in the back of the van and makes sure the equipment work properly. If the pictures clearly shows driver and tag the locals mail you a ticket based on $$$$ not points. The constitution of this practice has been in and out of the courts so frequently I'm unable to say if today this is or isn't still (will or won't be) practiced. In Ft.Collins, Co. they actually have an intersection where the equipment is mounted on traffic light poles, and timed w/ the traffic light snaps photo of those who push the yellow into red. I've gotten caught twice this way and was able to fight one because I was on a motorcycle and my face couldn't be made out w/ the helmet on. Another point is that when the speed limit was taken off the 55mph many towns on the interstate system lost considerable revenue. Places like Green River, Ut along I-70 near the Utah Colorado boarder you could count on a trap, the last couple times through there I saw not a single cherry. As for the Police I beleave they are very much under paid especially in the larger towns where they need to be disciplined like a marine, understand the law like a lawyer and have the people skills of a salesman also need to be able to multi task like a computer. Kudos to the men in blue. My experience has been very Karma like. Yes I was once needlessly shaken down and even beaten by the Denver Police dept. But I was also released once after being clocked doing 85 mph on a downtown street (speer blvd) I was also to drunk to F*#@k, and the cop was called off by a nearby shooting. Yes I even had a cop lie in court about my use of a bus lane. But I once told a cop that if he opened a film canaster that he had found my possession it would expose undeveloped film for a school project and I would recieve an F, needless to say he didn't open the canaster and let me go. ...... and we all are aware of the Denver boot. 240z gas tanks
I don't have a name for you, but I was recently looking through a Hot Rod Mag (I think it was Hot Rodder) there's a company offering new stainless steel replacement tanks. AND listed with numerous pre seventies american car tanks was the Datsun Z. Sorry I'm not more specific. Darylick

Questions about airdams
First: a shout out of HAPPY NEW YEAR & Kudos to Mike and the other Gurus I've learned from. It's about the Z. Though I voted for original style in the "How do you like the front of your Z?" poll, I did notice, in the three weeks I was able to drive my Z the front floated at Higher speeds (I thought this was a result of bad ball joints, shocks or alignment) Would like to here more on this subject. Questions: First: are the urethane airdams offered by MSA or VBL the same, and who is the manufacturer or other outlets? Second: Does this replace one or all of the three pieces that make up the valance on my 77. Thanx Darylick

Paint and Body question
I just went through 2 mos of hassle with trying to find quality Body shop. (1) Rust repair is considered restoration work, find a restoration or custom shop for this kind of work. Most Body shops will only handle insurance work (without rust). (2) Get referrals from those who only handle insurance work, of the 30 or so listed in yellow pages restoration and custom shops in the Denver Co., only 7 were still in bussiness. (3) Cold call the shop and trust your intincts. Eye contact, cleanlyness of shop, quality of work currently in the shop, what do the owners and employees cars look like (if they don't care for their own rides they probably won't be concerned for yours). don't always trust a photo portfolio, you won't be able to see details or waves in a photo), find someone who is excited about your ride as you are. (4) definitely shop, I got quotes from $3,000 to $15,000 (sometimes you don't get what you pay for). CAUTION: anyone who can shoot primer and spread bondo will call themselves a professional. Spend the time to find the right shop for you, for once you're committed it's in their hands. I won't go into details but it has truly been learning experience. Darylick Will AutoX for Food

The only way i leave my Z, is when my body has deteriorated to the point where I can't get low enough to get in it. Then I'll consider a C class M. Untill then we go together:ogre:
