  1. What did I do today, well, late yesterday. I finally got around to building aluminum roll-around frames for my jackstands. I need to have these so that I can move the car around to work on it and then roll it back out of the way so that I can park my truck back in the gararge.
  2. This is off-subject but what make are those wheels on the z-car?
  3. In the process of planning direction of restoring 2 1971 240Z, I am looking at the wiring system of the cars. Although the wire harnesses appear to be in good shape, it seems that that originally there was a capicity issues (ie headlight relay upgrades etc.). The ISIS system is comparmentized, you have a main power block, which would then control the power to two additional power blocks such as one in the engine compartment and the one to handle the rear harness section. Personally, I think this would upgrade the car(s) significantly and make the electrical system more reliable? Appreciate everyone's thought of going this route! newtonhubcap
  4. Hey all, finally tracked down what the color is. The car does belong to Mike Harris, and the color is; ALFA ROMEO POZZUOLI YELLOW AR127 1976 1977 A big thanks to all who provided comments. Thanks again! newtonhubcap
  5. I have 2 1971 front grills. There are 2 long very small diameter bolts that holds the grill assmebly togther. I am pretty confident that these are 3mm diameter but I am struggling with the thread pitch. Does any one know what the thread pitch is for these bolts and know where I could possibly about them? Thanks newtonhubcap
  6. A bright and cheery "Merry Christmas" and wishing a "Happy New Year" to all Zed-heads! I am just amazing of the camaraderie and wellingness of everyone to share information on this site! Everyone here is "Great"!
  7. I just got some parts back from being cleaned. Strut assemblies, coil springs, spring caps, and brake calipers were hot tank washed. This not only removed the grease but also took the old exterior finish off the parts. Hope to get these off to my powder-coater in the next few days. The taillight trims and grills for both cars were media blasted. These are now ready to paint just have to wait when temps are where I can get the garage heated to 65 degrees to paint in it. The side marker light trims I spent about an hour with my buffer cleaning them up. [ATTACH=CONFIG]50069
  8. Wow, very neat link to see the progression in the design. Who would have thought of seeing a Zed with "shark gills".
  9. Agree with rainman, it truly depends on how these cars have been stored. On a slightly different note is if these cars are in decent shape do you have an interest in restoring them or offering them up to some one who would be interested. I stumbled into what I reference the "Texan Twins". I was in search for a car but came across a gentleman who had two 71 Zeds and it was buy both cars plus nearly $10,000 of new invoice parts (proof is in the reciepts). Not trying to suggest you sell both as a bundled deal but if the cars have potential I am sure you will be able to find someone interested in them. Would highly take rainman up on the club stopping by and give opinions/suggestions. It could be a barn find deal for some one so the Zeds legend lives on plus, $$ for your mom. Good luck with them.
  10. Ooops! My error, fingers are all over the key board. Yes, zclub.net. Thanks.
  11. Hey all, Ray, I had the same thought yesterday after reading your reply. I did go over to the zcar.com form and found his pm and sent him my question. Have yet heard back from him but not in any real big hurry. OldSchool, will greatly appreciate the extra pics to get a better optical view of the color from different angles. 5thhorseman, I will have to take a look at the cortez yellow by ppg.
  12. Greatly appreciate everyones comments. Not really sure if it is the Safari gold, it appears to be more orange tint/gold. Oldschool, I will admit the Sunburst Yellow appears to be in the correct direction. Do you have a frontal view of your car? The picture in your garage cuts the car and was taken at an angle. Ray, I really hope that if the car belongs to Mike, he will chim in. If not I will attempt to track him down over and pm him. Looking at paint chips just makes it so hard to decide on a color. Looking at a car with the color makes one more comfortable that they are not getting ready to make a mistake. All I can say is that color what ever it may be is a color that gets you a speeding ticket while parked. Eventually I know this color will be indentified! Thankyou everyone! Newt
  13. Ok, I have spent time in the gallery and poking around on the internet to see what colors have been used on numerous Z’s. One car that caught my eye was the car (attached) with UK license plate. My question is does any one know what color this is, paint code or even the owner? I would greatly appreciate any and all input on this color! Thanks in advance, newt
  14. Gas welding is old school compared to what migs and tigs can accomplish. The new welder settimgs get you in the ball park and minimze blow holes. I have a miller 252 with spool gun for aluminum and the mig gun for steel. Look at the millermatic 212. Migs make every weld like a pro and worth the investment.
  15. Can you say where you bought it from? Thanks
  16. Hey guys, great appreciate you thoughts. I may just go ahead with the purchase of a N42 engine (with head) along with an R200 rear. Thanks again! Newtonhubcap
  17. Ok, I attempted to search here which is a better block to use and have come up with little information but some. My question is which block is the better block to use to build up, the N42 or F54 Block? As I have read they both see to be acceptable. Some say the N42 is better since there is more material left between cylinders when bored out. Other say the F54 since it take advantage of the extra strength of the siamese cylinders. I just want to simply utilize the best block to build up to a 3.1 because we all know that if your foundation is not solid then everything can come crumbling down or in this case go flying in a million directions. Thanks in advance for you input.
  18. First off, you have made the first step and that is ask questions and personally you will find no better information than those who use this forum. Everyone in here is great at relaying not only their experience but knowledge too. I agree there is nothing better than to knowing you Z intimately inside and out. One thing that I fell back on was the concept of "Foundation", the better your base is the better the refresh or restore will be. All the other parts of the car will follow but the everything will be based on what is the core body condition. I lucked out, I stumbled into a buy 2 for the price of one deal. Both cars were southern tier cars (AZ and CA.) with no rust period. Everything with them all I had to do was get them from Texas to Wisconsin. After two trips this summer both cars are now comfortably tucked into their respective spots. Oddly, my 11 yr old daughter has taken claim of the yellow one So, like I did I put the word out that I was looking for just a car as most of us are but the lucky Z-goddess (I guess) tapped me on the shoulder. Maybe if you ask and talk you to will come across a barn find? I wish you the best of luck as you start your hunt for the your Z.
  19. Was not sure which forum to post in but thought I would start here in the open. I have (2) 1971 Z's out of AZ. I am working on so would be sending 2 full gauge set out for restoring. I am interested in hearing everyone's suggestion who they would recommend to send dash gauges for restoration and who not to send them to. Thanks in advance
  20. I really appreciate the responses but I am looking at durability bottomline. Which material provides the most durable coating for undercarage parts? I may not even need to do the interior in por-15 since I goal is to have the body and all sheet metal dipped and e-coated. Thanks everyone, newtonhubcap
  21. Ok, I am getting confused as to what is the "best" route to go in finishing the suspension components (control arms linkages etc.). I know a lot have gone with powder coating but I am seeing that some are use POR-15 to paint suspension components and I have seen some have painted the interior of the car with POR-15. As I have always done things, I want the best I can get. Thanks ahead of your comments.
  22. Have done the search for this cd but I am not finding the link to buy occuring other on here. I have used the one online but don't want to rely on having access to the internet every time I want to check parts. Doesn't this site have a link to that CD?
  23. Man, do I feel like a moron. I have looked every where and even searched for the Zcar Cd that everyone keeps talking about but I hve not found where the link is to order it! Can any one help me out on where I need to look for the link? Thanks
  24. I don't have any input but I have not heard what is going on with Roger and his family. I hope it is not tragic! Is there any thing we can help them out with if needed?
  25. Am working on the headlight buckets for 2 1971 240z I have, getting them ready for re-plating. I have the buckets completely disassembled except for the white-plastic block that headlight adjustment screw screws into. Question I have, is how are those installed and how do you remove them so they are not damage by re-plating process. Thanks in advance.
