  1. For what it's worth that looks pretty fixable, a good TIG welder could take care of it pretty easily (and cheap). I've welded a few transmission housings for different cars, it's nasty aluminum to weld, but with careful preheat it's very possible.

I've browsed HybridZ a little bit, the swap is pretty straight forward, I have a lot of restoration to do and this seemed like a better place for classifieds and information. This car came with a new(er) set of interior plastics to replace all the cracked stuff (needs a new dash though), and had an L28 and ZX 5 speed swapped in with an aftermarket clutch and a 300ZX rear diff. For bonus points it's got polyurethane bushings installed everywhere and billet diff mounts. I'm keeping the rear diff, selling the rest of the drivetrain should cover most of what I spent on the car. I do need to figure out which transmission I've got though, between 80 and 83 there were like 3 different gearboxes? Anyone know what numbers correspond to which box? The LS2 is the 6.0L base Corvette and 04+ GTO engine, should make this light little thing get up and move! I wanted to do an all-motor project (my experience is in forced induction) and the LS2 is a great starting point for that; large displacement, high compression, broad power band. I'll cam it, reflash the ECU, intake/headers/exhaust, and call it good.

Since I was about 13 or 14 I wanted to do a small-block powered classic Z, about 9 months ago I noticed a 72 rotting out behind my friend's garage, and seeing an opportunity I bought it on the spot. It's been slow going, but I'm stripping her down to the bare metal and breathing some new life in with an LS1 or LS2 mated to a Tremec T56. I'll post some pictures and all that as I go, for now I'll say my background is in engine and transmission building, metal fabrication and TIG welding, with some brief diversions into machining, drafting, logic programming and systems design and computational fluid dynamics. Screwing around with stuff and making it awesome it sort of "my thing." That's all I've got for now so if you'll excuse me, I have a dashboard and some windows to pull out
