Thank you.............tonight was a lesson in futility. It takes gas and spark to make power and when I have spark I lack fuel or when I lack spark I have fuel. Now the starter does not engage until you turn the key several times. KISS may apply but patience is fading. As simple as this 260 2+2 may seem I keep encountering the same issues. I will sleep on it.

Thanks I shall keep that in mind.............soon I shall reinstall the oil pump and drive to get the distributor rotor lined up with #1 on the cap. I hope it works and we get to do a spin up the street tonight. If we get that far I will do a compression test and tune up.

Yep we have round top Hitachi's but thinking about Weber's. Just got back from the garage and I set all my timing marks and checked piston position. I also pulled out the front stabilizer assembly and oil pump. I will reinsert the pump and dizzy so that #1 on the cap is at 9 o clock with rotor towards the front. That should do it for preliminary settings to have a steady idle. The reason she was in repose at the heap was because a loud noise in the valve train. Two lash pads were laying inside out of position and one valve stem was spitting out a valve lock. I replaced the head with a freshly machined E88 and timing chain assembly. I made certain that the indexing of the camshaft was correct and alignment of the chains shiny links were correct. After all this #1 was lined up at the first nipple at the bottom of the cap but she would not maintain an idle speed so now I am back to square one. We also installed a Crane Fireball ignition and rewired the harness. I will ge some pics as soon as we get her running so we can include videos. For good measure I replaced the interior carpet with area rugs cut to fit from Home Depot and remounted the console to overlap. The seats were remounted using rubber bushings from end links and perferated particle board was cut t fit the entire rear and overlayed with carpet. All dash gauges are stock and a vacuum gauge was mounted into the shell for the clock. So if we are lucky than she will get headers to go onto the custom exhaust and ready to paint.

Minutes ago made the connection so Hi everyone. I have a 74 260Z 2+2 Garage Queen which is yearning for the road. A year ago we did a junk yard rescue of this car and what a learning experience. The interior has been replaced with quality house carpet and the seats remounted with thick rubber bushings. The head was inspected and machined and the carbs were claned and adjusted. We installed a new updated exhaust and cleaned and repainted the engine. After setting cam and crank in position and aligning all the marks she will not start. Since the ON part of my ignition switch was not functioning I replaced it. Now I have the turn signals, electronic module and fuel pump operating. She started up but at 1400 rpm so when I turned the idle down to 1000 she died unless you keep pumping the pedal. I plan to static time her but the way she lines up #1 on the cap is at left of lower center adjacent to vac adv. screw. Should it be at left center of cap between advance and clip? I must be close to having her right. I have a shop manual on CD but I do not see specific tune up illistrations. I want to drive this car so bad and since I am on vacation this week I have the time.
