Differential Insulator Mount
While you're at it, consider to replace the upper differential "strap" with something more substantial while I was in the process of replacing my diff oil seals. I managed to get rid of all my typical Z "bumps and thumps". Replacing R180 Differential Seals

Windshield Wiper disassembly
When I took apart my wipers for powder coating, I carefully laid out the parts in the order of (dis)assembly. Not sure if it helps, but here it is anyway:

Connectors (Male And Female) For A 1972 240Z
What is the concern about vintageconnections? I found them to be responsive and the product is excellent. I used a lot of 'em when I rebuilt my wiring harness. If you are looking for a complete, 'turn-key' kit of connectors, I've not seen one.

Led Dashboard Bulb Type
Replacing all the bulbs with LEDs is a nice idea (I did it, details here), but I also had the dash out of the car. The stock rheostat dimmer does not work with LEDs (it is either on or on) I also recall that some of the bulbs are not chassis-grounded, which means an LED bulb likely wouldn't work as I learned with my glovebox light experience. I agree 100% with Kurbycar32 - stick with the stock bulbs. If you can wedge your body upside down under the dash, you MIGHT be able to pull out the bulb (the bulb/socket combination is a press-fit). ----------- WoodWorkerB

I finally got around to moving my blog into a real website. I'm trying to go through my photos (over 2,400 photos, 6.6GB) and document what I've learned. Speedometer jumping
I cured my speedo bounce by replacing the speedo cable. The inner cable was slightly kinked and the outer jacket was worn through. Documented here: 240z-rebuild/speedometer-cable-replace/

Tail Light Restoration...
Replacing those chrome dress strips is a 'cheap' (compared to NOS tail lights) alternative. I was super pleased with the results. I documented the process here: 240z-rebuild/refurbish-tail-light-assembly/

DIY: How to Recover Your Z Seats - LOTS OF PICTURES
Excellent write-up and super-well documented. Thanks and well done. I wish I had seen this before I F'd up my first set of seat covers  (They are not well reinforced in several of the places you pull-like-hell on them) I had webbing under my seats rather than the springs. Also a caution if you are tall. Datsun 240Z Seat Rebuild - WoodWorkerB

Nuts and Bolts What to do?
I have a local plating company (Orange, CA) that will do small batches for cash. The results are very close to the original CAD plating. Here are the fuel sender retaining ring, fuel filler neck and tank hanger bolts after bead blasting and "Gold Zinc Plating". Compare the gas cap (NOS original filler cap, I'm assuming is CAD plated). It's too close to tell except by the most careful of inspection. I also shoot everything with a clear 'satin finish' spray to milk out a few more years. I'm slowly plating every scrap of exposed metal every chance I get - throttle linkage, fuel rail, fuel filter clip, Air filter wing-bolts, hood latch. Looks awesome against the red paint! I do also have a Harbor Freight 5lb "vibratory tumbler" (noisy SOB). It works well provided I use new sand - I just use playground sand from Home Depot. The sand gets ground down pretty quickly (imagine those little glass bits that end up on the beach). I toss the old sand after every use. Seems to get into all the nooks-and-crannies quite well. Have to run the damn thing for 5-8 hours. 1971 240z Photos Restoration Blog

240z Seat Strapping
I used the webbing repair kit (I think from Motorsport Auto). I used regular-old pop rivets each fitted with two flat washers that fit snug. I used a hole-punch tool (Harbor Freight) to "pre drill" the holes in the webbing fabric to take the rivet. I carefully folded over the material, punched and riveted. How tight is kind of a guess. Once I had one the dimensions I wanted, I transferred the dimensions to a piece of paper to make a 'story board', from which I could quickly cut and rivet the remaining web pieces without have to guesstimate each one. With new MSA padding and covers - looks like a $1,000,000. One word of caution - I'm 6'5" and I thought I fit in my Z pretty well. Turns out the seat cushion was shot as well as the webbing, so I actually sat "in" the seat rather than "on" the seat. After the re-webbing and new padding, I have to recline the seat all the way, and slide down a little bit to avoid hitting the roof. It's a very small price to pay. 1971 240z Photos Restoration Blog

I need everyones input on this one (Combo and T/S switches)
1971 240Z I also started to document how these combo switches work electrically. They are really clever (which is part of their downfall) Inputs for improvement welcome. Datsun 240z multi function switches (in process) Photos WoodWorkerB.com
