  1. I had my dealer-installed early 240z (april, 1970 production date) removed from my car when I had it painted a few years ago. I had the old-style compressor rebuilt in anticipation of returning the system to the car upon completion of the restoration. Subsequently, I decided not to re-install the A/C system and am now planning to sell the parts. My problem is this....I have a condensor, the rebuilt compressor, interior switches, etc. but am not sure if there are any other parts that should be in the system or where they would be located on the car (i.e. evaporator, dryer, hoses, etc.) Can anyone help with a description/diagram of the various A/C components that were originally installed on the early '70 240z's? Thank you in advance for your help. Mike 9teen7t240z
  2. Cool.....what a relief. Thanks again, Arne.
  3. I do have another question regarding the current topic. There were actually 2 relays mounted next to each other.....one, the subject relay, was wired as mentioned above. The other relay was not wired at all....my mechanic figured that the PO had just replaced a bad relay without removing the old one. However, when I removed the one that "was not in use", I noticed slightly different labeling on it. It is labeled "L", "B", and "S", as opposed to "H", "B", and "S". Does anyone have knowledge as to whether this is just an older, unnecessary relay or whether I might be missing some wiring? (the terminals and the relay switch looks identical to the horn relay....with the exception of the aforementioned difference in labeling. Thanks again, Mike
  4. Wonderful...thanks Arne for confirming that I read the FSM correctly. And thanks to Zedhead for forwarding the link. Just last week I was finally able to acquire the hardare for the hornpad.....my car hasn't had one since I bought it. Once I finish restoring the new, old, steering wheel that came with the horn hardware, my little Z should finally be able to warn those VW bugs to get out of the way while I pass them on the highway:)
  5. After scanning the FSM from Zedhead's link, it looks as though this relay is for the horn. There are 3 wires in total, 2 green ones and one green/red wire. If this is, in fact, a switch for the horn and no other purpose, I would just need to know which wires to attach to the respective terminals on the relay.
  6. Am trying to install some new interior light door switches in my 1970 240z and had to remove the kickpanel to access the switch. In the process, I had to disconnect the relay switch that is suspended from the hood cable release mounting in the car. While there, I had the brilliant idea of disconnecting the wires from the relay in order to clean the contacts, but failed to label the wires for re-connect. This relay has 3 wires, and has labels that read "H", "B", and "S" on it. I could sure use some help on determining what the purpose of this relay is, and, more importantly, in finding out which wire connects to which contact on the relay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike
  7. Thanks to all of you for the tips/info. Will take a kind and gentle approach to installing my clamshell.
  8. George, Do you happen to know the sizes and thread patterns of the hardware that connects the two halves together as well? Mike
  9. George, Thanks a million for the info...will see if Ace can provide the necessary screws tomorrow. Thanks again to Enrique as well. Mike
  10. Hmmm....sounds like this is going to be a bit more complicated than picking up a few screws at Ace and twisting a screwdriver. I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to provide such a detailed description. I think I'll print the thread and see if anyone at ACE can help locate the screws. However, if you do get a chance to actually identify the screw sizes and patterns it could help immensely. Thanks again E for your response and good luck at the show. Mike
  11. I finally was able to source a new clamshell/steering column cover for my 1970 240z. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the hardware for attaching the covers to each other and to the column. Can any of you tell me what thecorrect screw sizes and thread patterns are for this part? Also, if washers or lock nuts or used, can you please advise so that I can raid the local Ace hardware store tomorrow? As usual, thanks for all of your help. Mike
  12. I hope that the first time a local law enforcement officer decides he'd like a closer look at my Z, that he, too, will warn me as opposed to citing me:)
  13. Do you think that the bolts that secure the belts to the transmission tunnel would be same size and length as the ones that secure the shoulder strap to the interior?
  14. Blue, once again you come through! You're a veritable repository of Z related photos, illustrations, tech drawings, and general info. Am thinking your man cave must resemble more of a library than a traditional place where boys store their toys:) Thanks again for your help. With this illustration, I could be mere hours away from being legal! Mike
  15. Finally!! Tomorrow night I'm going to have my original series 1 seatbelts re-sewn/re-assembled with the CORRECT clips/hardware. The question I have now is: Does anyone have photos or info of the hardware required and the position where the shoulder strap gets anchored to the interior? Additionally, photos of the finished installation of the coat hooks would also be appreciated. These seatbelts have been out of the car soooo long that I can't remember where to anchor the shoulder straps and coathooks. I hope I still have the correct mounting hardware.....any info on the proper bolt/attachment hardware would also be appreciated. Thanks again to all of you who have helped me through this maze thus far.:classic:

I think they're mine.....and I want them back! () Naw, sorry but I don't recognize them. Good luck.
  17. Fortunately, I did find an automotive and marine upholsterer who will restitch all of my belts (with the correct clips/buckles/connectors) for the princely sum of $20. and beer. Now, I have a new dilemna: Heineken or Burgermeister? Six pack, 12 pack, or full case? Bottles or cans? So many tough decisions to make when restoring these cars......
  18. Gosh, Aaron......thank you for taking the time to post some feedback. I'm glad that you're happy with your purchases. You can expect a little something "extra" in your pay envelope this week:) Just kidding.......thanks again, Mike
  19. Hey, Blue, I guess I could take it back to the chrome shop, but it is in Asia so the costs could be a little prohibitive (). Guess I'll just have to use some of the money I saved on the chrome plating to hire an upholstery shop to do a little sewing. I learned a key lesson here.......when farming out specialty work such as chroming, do all of the dis-assembly and re-assembly myself and just leave them with the task of performing their specialty. Anyway, thanks again for all of your help on this.....without the aid of the detailed pics that you sent me, I'd still be wondering why I can't fit those round pegs into square holes:)
  20. What a chocolate mess! Finally figured out why I couldn't get these seat belts reassembled and installed. When I had sent the belts out to be rechromed (the connectors/clips...not the webbing..), it seems that the plating shop put ALL of the harware back onto the wrong belts! I even found that 2 of the connectors required for the seatbelts had been installed on the ends of the luggage straps. Now, I guess I'll have to find someone who has both a mechanical aptitude AND a commercial sewing machine! Sad thing is....they had actually done a nice job with the stitching when reassembling the belts......just didn't put the hardware where it belonged. Anyone have any suggestions on where I might look to find a seamstress/mechanic with a high-performance, turbo-charged sewing machine?
  21. How extensive are the wiring issues in the dash? What is the nature and scope of the po's "imagination"? In other words, how badly has he screwed up the wiring? Does the car have rust? If so, how bad and where? What is the condition of the interior? Does it drive straight? Has it had any known or suspected accident history? Do you have pics available of the entire car.....exterior, interior, and underside? To a large extent, the value of the car "as is" will be determined by a propspective new owner's estimate of costs in money and time to make the car "right" (unless the new owner is a liberal, in which he may want to make it "left".....little joke there).")
  22. Ben and Cozye, I'll continue to follow up on this thread to see who else has an interest in having some of their parts rechromed. I am thinking that the next batch that I send will be largely comprised of center taillight strips (240z) and taillight surrounds/bezels from 260z and 280z. Also, will be attempting to acquire some good cores from any of you that have extra parts laying around. Will also be shipping some additional emblems and badges (metal ones) from the early 240z's. If any members have some other needs or special requests, let me know. Mike
  23. Ben, Last year, I sent approx. 22 pieces of mixed parts (some plastic, some metal) overseas to be rechromed for my personal z car project. Parts included a full set of "D" hubcaps, multiple chrome center taillight strips for a 240z, seat belt buckles, original metal emblems for a series 1 z, etc. I understood that my cost savings would be substantial and was willing to take the risk that the quality may not meet my expectations. Fortunately, I was very pleased with the overall results (both costs and quality) and am now considering doing this on a recurring basis as an actual business venture. If you're interested, I'll keep you and any other club members in the loop on my progress as I am tentatively planning to send a much larger quantity of items for replating in September. Mike
  24. Blue, thank you very much for the pics. I'll let you know if I'm successful after I have a go at it tomorrow. Thanks again.
  25. Judging by the photos from 26thz and blue, I can see that 4 of my pieces connect to form 2 belts....one for each side. That helps some. However, am still not clear on how these would be assembled to form a complete harness. Also, does anyone know if a complete harness will fit either side (driver/passenger), or are these "side-specific"? Finally, while on the subject, I also need to re-install my luggage straps.....any pics of the correct placement of these would be appreciated. Thanks everyone for your help.
