How truly green is Germany?
I was referring to burning cleaner not longevity. You're lucky being in europe. California is much stricter than europe in terms of emissions. Back in the early 90's someone turned me in to the highway patrol using the 800 gross polluter number in california because they "thought" my nissan 720 sd22 smoked too much. That really pissed me off but thats how things are in calif. Back in those days there was NO smog check for diesels. My 15 year old tdi with 230,000 miles on it burns way way cleaner than that old mechanical injection sd22 even when it was new. I was right about what vw cheated on. Oxides of nitrogen were way too high and the egr valve is responsible for reducing NOX. Sounds like they just shut it down so the engine wouldn't carbon up. According to the pbs article "The little engine that couldn't" "Their approach was three-pronged: One, they closely monitored and adjusting combustion conditions, and two, they used a two-stage exhaust gas recirculation system. Both of these reduced initial emissions. Finally, they handled the remaining emissions using a lean NOx trap." I really hope they can solve the problem of carbon buildup. If they can't, they should pull diesels from the US market. I would really be disappointed if vw just turned egr funtion back on and let owners deal with the carbon problem after warranties expire. Dieselgate has already cost them their CEO. Perhaps he'll write a book in a few years detailing the decisions that led up to the this. I'de sure like to know But we will probably never know.

Hawaii gas and Z sighting
That 240 is owned by a guy that works or worked at costco gas station in kailua kona. Whenever i would be gassing up my 280 he'd come over and chat with me. He bought it new and its his dailybdriver. If you truly want a 4wd adventure hop on over to lanai. The jeeps are pretty pricey but most of the island is jeep trails and the beaches are pretty deserted. My black 280 is nice and safe in the garage with all this tropical storm flooding. Yes ethenol free is here i think because of the large number of boat owners that need ethenol free gas. My z sure runs alot better on that stuff but when gas was around 5 bucks a gallon, i used costco gas to commute with. In the 10 or so years i've lived here i've only seen about 5 z's on the whole island. There was a guy over on molokai selling a low number 70 240 but it wasn't running. That place is way too remote to try to ship a non running car from. You know its funny, the tesoro refinery in honolulu exports gasoline to calif, australia and new zealand. Nice way to get around the ban on export of crude.

How truly green is Germany?
I own a Vw "clean diesel" TDI and i must say the nose test tells me that it burns clean. I did have a problem with the egr valve clogging up the intake manifold. They haven't perfected egr valves on diesels yet. It filled up the 3" intake with black soot completely.I deleted it with a "race pipe" from ebay. It's probably the egr that vw was shutting down illegally in the software. I can certainly see why they did it. There has always been a hack where you could shut off the egr valve in the ecm using a laptop and a vagcom cable. Love the ALH tdi motor. The germans know how to build a good diesel engine. The rest of the car is crap however. vw's "clean diesels" are a big improvement over the old mechanical injection diesels. My old SD22 nissan smoked like a chimney. I wish they would sell the bluemotion diesels in the usa. These things get 72 mpg. They're a 3 cylinder diesel and whenever you use the brakes it recharges the car battery to reduce the load of the alternator on the engine. aka regenerative braking.

Car Dock
Nah, they start out at only 45,000 usd. I would think water getting inside would be a big problem. It would be great for inside the house. or inside the garage. This is a swiss company thats making them. I think their target buyer is someone with a really nice car that doesn't have the room to build a 2 car garage

Datsun Parts LLC - gone to the dark side?
If it were mine, i'de pull the head and check his work. When you get a response like you did, "it is mecanic it will fail" that should put up big red flags right there. I'm curious to see what failed. Could be a head gasket, cracked or eroded head or a leaking valve in that cylinder or rings. Did you use a stethescope to listen for air leaking in the intake and exhaust manifolds? Are you sure the cylinder was TDC when you did the leak test? How did the compression test go?

Classic Skylines In Kuwait
This would have made a good Datsun commercial back in the day. "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking" would have been a great sales mantra.

78 epa rating for a NEW datsun. We also have ethenol now so these figures are probably better than the best tuned car out there.

Skylines In UAE .....
I hope he uses air cleaners on this engine. The only reasons they don't like to use air cleaners there is because they like the sound and L6's are cheap. S20 is another matter though. I've seen new water pumps with a price tag of 1300 usd.

restored 1970 432 for sale
Yes, i'de love to know the story about this green car. Looks like he's had it for a very long time. The garage looks like it disintegrated around the car. The "name your price" looks interesting too. http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/NISSAN/FAIRLADY_Z/700070617930150123001/index.html Looks like he's spraying over the original paint on the green one. A quick-n-dirty "restoration" to make it "shiny shiny shiny" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECjqBXOiTtk

When you look at the highest ranking crowdfunding projects, your idea doesn't seem so bad. You would have to set it up as a trust fund of sorts. To provide insurance for the car and storage and maintenance. Owners could make reservations to drive it or have a lottery for owners like the wrecked ferrari guy. The lottery winner gets to drive it for a month. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest_funded_crowdfunding_projects

Finally replica door panels for 77-78 z's
A guy up in canada is making these. From the pictures they look pretty good. Good price too $400. I saw the listing come up last night. They sold in 1 day with buy it now. He's got more for sale he says. Seeing that they sold so fast, the price may go up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-280Z-1977-1978-New-Black-Interior-Door-Panels-/171882985815?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=QqPaYvCnJe8TzxL5G2i88rOWYQg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Kenmeri coming to USA very soon.
I've seen a vin of 4253 being referred to as a "late 73" Are they replacing the deck lid and hood or are they repairing them? So where are you going to source the GTR parts for this replica? Is the body shop in Dubai going to be sourcing the GTR parts? The GTR grill looks a whole lot better than the 240k. I kind of like the australian GTR tail lites more than the JDM ones. A brand new GTR tail lite surround thats factory original NEW has seller listings for $1600 and a USED grille for $3000 in Japan. I need to start learning more about these cars so that i can bring parts back from Japan to sell. Thats a heleva premium for parts. I thought fairlady parts sold for a premium!
