Anyone try those reusable micro mesh fuel filters? Here is cut'n paste description from the ones they use on diesels but I know they make them for efi gasoline also. Paper just seems like a flimsy filter medium. Pure Power fuel filters for Cummins, Duramax, and Power Stroke-equipped trucks and SUVs are cleanable and reusable, ensuring you never have to buy a replacement filter. The reusable, deep-pleated filter media is assembled from dual-woven stainless steel and is simply washed with hot soapy water during the cleaning period. Debris removal and filtering improves as much as 90 percent compared to single-use fuel filters,
  3. Did you have the name of the company that did the plating work for you?
  4. Hopefully there is enough sticking up above the block surface that they can get a tool on it to extract it or weld on another bolt. My 78 also had a broken head bolt too. I bought a set of craftsman bolt extractors to get mine out. They're the kind that you hammer down over the top of the broken bolt and it cuts in. Then you just wrench it out. Fortunately i had about 1/2" sticking out above the block surface. I replaced the bolts with a set of turbo bolts for a little bit better clamping force and hopefully better elasticity. You're saving yourself alot of grief having the machine shop fix it.
  5. If you're going to drive it then i'de get tool that crimps the heater hose leading into the heater core. so if it pops while you're driving you can pinch it off. Then i'de get a gallon or 2 of water inside antifreeze bottles and store them behind the seats. Mine popped under the dash one nite and it was a hellish nite getting home. Now i carry 2 gallons in the car at all times.

the guy that owned that is out of his mind. he thinks its a 240z:bunny: very nice. you've doubled your money with that one but holy crap... its already tried to kill you. Did the owner say anything about a curse on this car. It is blue you know... beware of the devil z

Did you tear down the chinese sheetrock or is it still up? If you paid someone to install, tape and texture, that could get expensive real fast.

Hey the germans are getting in on the cheap is better for profits too. I was shocked when i bought a new beetle. Rivets holding the ring gear on, rivets holding the 2 piece flywheel together, plastic interior parts that crack when breathed on, headliners that the fabric seperates from the cardboard liner..... and on and on. NOT what i was expecting from previously owning vw's built in the 60's and 70's. I use the made in china label as a great tool to keep my wife from buying crap that we don't need or will never use. yes she's a shopaholic but that stops her in her tracks EVERY time. Alot of those dollars sent to china are coming back as business investment dollars when the chinese business owner decides he has big enough nest egg and fears the govt will take it all away eventually in the next purge, he heads to the usa or canada to start a business there. Canada did essentially the same thing in 97 when hong kong was handed back to china. Many of the smart business owners fled WITH their money and started businesses in canada. With whats happening in hong kong now, they are probably really glad they fled.
  9. whenever I see "frame off restoration" I automatically think chevy or ford guy. Those mirrors scream to angry teenage vandals. TEAR ME OFF! Plusses so cal desert car, still has a datsun engine, most of the mods can be reversed. Tinting and lights scream to chp. PULL ME OVER.

    Battery box needs attention STAT
  11. did you rebuild the engine yourself? thats an F series with the shims under the crank caps right? i had a heluva time getting oil pressure in mine after i rebuilt it. this was my first engine i ever rebuilt. i didn't replace the oil pump. probably should have. i probably should google low oil pressure after rebuild fj40. its been bugging me for years what went wrong.
  12. hellfire and brimstone! this has turned into one big project. can you release a few bare bones boxes so that some of us can do our own tweaking?
  13. Did you use aerosol spray glue for the headliner? i've not had any luck getting mine to stick with the aerosol stuff. next i'll try that stuff in the can with a roller. I think part of my problem is the padding is rotted but i've heard upholsterers say that aerosol stuff doesnt hold. How is yours holding up? did the wrinkles flatten out?
  14. KYUSHA SHOES I don't imagine the teddy bear wheels were a big seller.
  15. looks like a website that collects vintage car adds from all over the net.
  16. Found this one right here in the z classifieds. Never Licensed 1976 280 Z Description: 280 Z car bought from dealer 1976 and has never been licensed. This is a museum piece. Come on Dean tell us the story behind this barn find. If it were mine, i'de be contacting nissan to see if they would be interested in it.

  18. You might want to ask datzenmike over at ratsun.net. He seems to be know alot about Jatco automatics. Used automatics are sometimes free or very low priced but sometimes its a crap shoot. But they do seem to last forever if treated well. I bought one off ebay for cheap. The shipping costed more than it did. You could use this opportunity to upgrade to a later zx auto with lockup torque converter or a turbo zx automatic that has slightly different gear ratios and added clutch discs for higher performance. Replacing that part no doubt will be quite a chore/adventure but if you want to learn then i say go for it. If it were me, I would get an extra trans just in case something goes wrong. check out this video on tearing down a ford c4 which is very similar to the jatco. Its not for the faint of heart

It would make a great hearse. Great way to end the journey. A ride to the boneyard in a z-earse...
  21. Never washed his car because he feared rust? If only there were z owners out there like this guy. Somewhere out there i hope is a 1970 series 1 240z that has 44 years of dust instead of rust on it. 1969 Shelby GT500 goes to auctioned off after 40 years in storage | Digital Trends Years ago, 1985 to be exact, I had an encounter with a green 69 cobra just like this one but it was kind of rough shape. The guy said he paid 30K for it then. It had original paint and original upholstery. The fiberglass hood had cracks and the fiberglass fenders were wavy. My job was to repair the bodywork and prep it for paint. It took me 2 months to get straight. The owner went on to become a senator in California. . I googled him and I see he now owns a 66 cobra replica. He's quoted on a website saying "I want to own an original shelby" So it must have been sold. Too bad for him. Sounds like he regrets selling. It would be worth 6 figures now.
  22. Saw this too late. Did it sell?
  23. Self Service Inventory Search | Nevada Pic A Part pic a part currently has 2 zx's and 81 and a 83 I once scored a newly rebuilt N42 head here. Still running it on my car. Do NOT try taking big greasy parts back on the plane with you like i did. Had to ship it home using usps. TSA doesn't like greasy flammable parts in the plane cargohold. Remember too, it's bloody hot in this area in the middle of summer. I suggest an umbrella and lots of water. and there's always the las vegas craigslist las vegas for sale / wanted classifieds "datsun 280z" - craigslist And if like IMAX theatres there's one inside the big pyramid. cheap entertainment... you'll need that after spending hundreds $$$ on the live shows.
  24. Have you looked into the differences between the zx turbo automatic with lockup torque converter and the plane jane jatco 3 speed?

I've used automotive enamel paint reducer before and its not harmed vinyl. If the paint was really hard i'de use cheap lacquer thinner. The spray gun wash stuff they sell at home improvement stores. One thing i did note is lacquer thinner really dries out rubber weatherstripping. So don't use it on any rubber.
