You can use it for parts. Volume switch looks similar and the AM FM pushbutton knobs are probably the same.

looks like a hitachi from another datsun that they put a 240z faceplate on. Doesn't even have the mount for the antenna switch on top of the case.

I printed up some stickers and it covers some of the grinder marks. Going to be buying my own plating kit so I have more control over the process.

Would you accept this zinc chromate plating? Maybe i m\isunderstood what this service is. Are you just paying for the plating or plating + metal finishing? I had these professionally plated and they came back looking like this. As you can see there are very obvious grinder marks that show thru. At the very least a DA sander would have improved the look of this.

Just got back from Japan and finished uploading this video of a ride in Kats' 432. The condition of this car is amazing and its good to see it being driven and enjoyed. The guy in that black ferrari was really gawking at the 432. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be a cop back in 1970 chasing down speeders in one of these beasts. The auto tuning is power hungry as it uses a motor to tune. Is your power supply powerful enough? I would first try to see if its a mechanical problem. I would clean all the tuning hardware with denatured alcohol. There is also a clutch according to the service manual. That could be not engaging or slipping. I'de note its behavior , if possible, when the tuning motor is going. If thats not the problem, there is a "reverse relay" in the schematic. I believe that relay may reverse the direction once it reaches the end. Well then you found the problem. Solder it up if you can. Now you found out why it was free I looked at mine and couldn't find that coil you're talking about. You could possibly talking about an IF transformer or just a transformer. A picture of the coil may help others that have the same problem. My problem with these radio's is i keep buying radios almost hoping someone sold me a dud and I can use it for parts but every one works! Im working on one now that needs just a volume/on off switch and I don't want to ruin a perfectly good radio just for the switch.

John, did you replace the radio because it would only play music from the 70's? How does a Japanese car understand what she said to it?

I might add that trimmer is only for AM. Also if you're inside a solidly built house, the reception might be bad.

I've had an automatic z for 18 years and love it. I never considered putting a 5 speed in it. It is best in slow stop and go traffic and accelerating away from stop lights.. The automatic allows me to have both hands on the wheel to steer that stiff steering because i've got wide wheels. Electric power steering would be a very nice upgrade for mine. My reverse gear clutches recently went bad and have a replacement transmission ready to install. 2n'd gear clutches and reverse are the weak part of this Jatco automatic. The turbo 280zx automatic trans has more clutch packs, sportier gearing, higher stall speed and is considered an upgrade. Is that orange 240z a Southern California car?
