Skylines In UAE .....
I hope he uses air cleaners on this engine. The only reasons they don't like to use air cleaners there is because they like the sound and L6's are cheap. S20 is another matter though. I've seen new water pumps with a price tag of 1300 usd.

restored 1970 432 for sale
Yes, i'de love to know the story about this green car. Looks like he's had it for a very long time. The garage looks like it disintegrated around the car. The "name your price" looks interesting too. http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/NISSAN/FAIRLADY_Z/700070617930150123001/index.html Looks like he's spraying over the original paint on the green one. A quick-n-dirty "restoration" to make it "shiny shiny shiny" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECjqBXOiTtk

When you look at the highest ranking crowdfunding projects, your idea doesn't seem so bad. You would have to set it up as a trust fund of sorts. To provide insurance for the car and storage and maintenance. Owners could make reservations to drive it or have a lottery for owners like the wrecked ferrari guy. The lottery winner gets to drive it for a month. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest_funded_crowdfunding_projects

Finally replica door panels for 77-78 z's
A guy up in canada is making these. From the pictures they look pretty good. Good price too $400. I saw the listing come up last night. They sold in 1 day with buy it now. He's got more for sale he says. Seeing that they sold so fast, the price may go up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-280Z-1977-1978-New-Black-Interior-Door-Panels-/171882985815?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=QqPaYvCnJe8TzxL5G2i88rOWYQg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Kenmeri coming to USA very soon.
I've seen a vin of 4253 being referred to as a "late 73" Are they replacing the deck lid and hood or are they repairing them? So where are you going to source the GTR parts for this replica? Is the body shop in Dubai going to be sourcing the GTR parts? The GTR grill looks a whole lot better than the 240k. I kind of like the australian GTR tail lites more than the JDM ones. A brand new GTR tail lite surround thats factory original NEW has seller listings for $1600 and a USED grille for $3000 in Japan. I need to start learning more about these cars so that i can bring parts back from Japan to sell. Thats a heleva premium for parts. I thought fairlady parts sold for a premium!

Shipping from Aus to Dubai to San diego must be expensive. Is this a one time import or do you plan on getting more 240k's?

Headliner install tip
I was watching a video on youtube and the guy was a professional upholster. He said the spray can stuff aint no good. He prefers the contact cement in the can. He was using it in a spray gun but said you can use a little roller. I've tried myself to reglue the headliner with 3m spray and it failed after a couple days. Part of my problem is rotting foam though but i was suprised he said the spray stuff doesn't last.

Rethinking the Analog EFI
There are bigger variables in the system than the ecu aren't there? such as afm spring being worn out, flaky oxidized wiring, flaky fpr's, correct voltage to the fuel pump, worn fuel pump etc... But having said that... there are people that have NEWER ecu's than ours and the caps are failing. Toyota has the problem http://www.driftmotion.com/1JZ-ECU-Cap-Service-p/dm1251.htm

Rethinking the Analog EFI
Do you have a wideband to measure your AFR's ? Do you have a wideband to verify this?
-
Rethinking the Analog EFI
Perhaps you are looking at this problem of "crumbling ecu's" from the wrong direction. Wouldn't it make more sense to be just replace those old capacitors with a more modern non-electrolytic. There are several types of modern capacitors, such as polyester film, polypropylene film, metalized polyester, and so on. New capacitors—even the cheapest ones—vastly exceed the originals in performance and reliability. The L-Jet gives was designed to give you a dead flat AFR across the rev range if you keep the TPS installed and working correctly. The only advantage of adding an oxygen sensor would be for max emmisions efficienty not power right? Great for smog inspections if you're cursed with failed smog checks. But a properly running L-jet should pass even in california by a wide margin. I know i've done it. HC's were half the calif limit. I suggest someone maps out which caps and other ailing components that should be replaced and make a packaged kit for the DIY people. Or a nice business opportunity for those that are good at soldering.

Rethinking the Analog EFI
The LE jetronic crowd thinks similar thoughts. "I propose using a MAP sensor pinched from the Megasquirt apps and then feed this into the dev system board. then drive a digital pot (via I2c or SPI) and simulate the AFM and feed back into the LE jetronic so it doesn't know any different. This way I stay with the analog beautiful FI heart" "What I am proposing is an active circuit that can, not only, invert the relationship between air volume and sensor output voltage, but also potentially alter the response linearity (linear versus exponential). This could be accomplished with an Arduino as the base of the converter. The programability of the device allows it to adapt a variety of modern air volume determination methods to the analog expectations of the L-jet. It will also be able to program delays into the signal processing to simulate inertial sluggishness in response, and a variety of other "real world" anomalies. It is an interesting concept and possibly an exciting project to complete." This electronics guru posted this way back in 2013. He's yet to finish it however. It's alot of work! Here he describes the interface (language translation box) between a newer "hot wire afm" <insert any ecu piggyback here > and the analog ecu. What is the voltage change for each type :- Don't care it's just a reading at an air flow rate What is the change in voltage with respect to air mass, linear, log or expo :- Again dont really care it's just a reading just like all other sensors I use at work. Is it the same for both types :- Again don't really care just need to know what it is. Compensation for over swing :- Please expand but worse case it's just another input to measure, remember I am feeding my conditioner just into the Ljet AFM sensor input the Ljet still makes it's own decisions based on all it's sensor readings, it knows the throttle position already. I am just making a sensor black box conditioning circuit to trick the LJet to think it's still connected to the flap type AFM, not a EFI unit. Works like this Plug little black box into the original AFM and the new hot wire type (both are in series) on the bike Decode the revs and run the black box computer to give very fast commer delimited data to a files on the EXACT reading of each sensor at each rpm readings. Take data and import into windows excel, plot RPM vs Voltage reading for both AFM's compute the formula from the results and you have your algorithm for your lookup equilivelant for the black box computer Then plug the black box in between the hot wire MAF and the LJet FI unit and when I rev the bike, all I have to do is Supply the original AFM value to the Ljet input for the AFM I do this sort of stuff all the time at work with sensors we use in our monitor equipment designs.

To Buy or not to Buy. That is the Question! Series 1 240Z
on the frame rail as in the pics above. However, I found something new: It looks like at some point the first foot/foot and a half of the frame rail was cut off and rewelded. This would account for the newer radiator and horns. Could this be an early rust repair or an accident? Does it have a salvage title?

Is this 76 280Z worth getting?
In arizona thats a big minus. I used to wash my car inside the garage because it was too damn hot out in the az sun. Having to park good cars out in that sun really ruins the paint/upholstery fast. If it were me, i'de sell the impala and get cash. Point out all the work it needs and then offer this guy 5000-6000 and use the leftover to fix up the car.

Is this 76 280Z worth getting?
no, the driveshaft on the turbo is larger diameter so you would have to cut down a turbo zx driveshaft. BUT.. for your efforts you get a higher stall torque converter with lower first gear and stouter clutches. I was looking into this option on mine a couple years ago after my reverse started making popping noises. Datzenmike over on ratsun is the expert on jatco's. He's the person to ask if you're interested in using this trans. The L3N71B was only used on 82-83 280zx's so it may be more difficult to source.
