thought someone might be interested in this project a guy over on nissan diesels website is doing. heck i would have kept the diesel in the maxima. he's looking for anyone who has done the conversion before. http://nissandiesel.dyndns.org/viewtopic.php?t=2850

whenever i use costco gas it was always harder to start when hot. before i added my injector fan, i tried a better grade of gas and it did help. try running chevron and see if it starts a little better. to totally eliminate the problem the xz injector fan is the ticket. im only lacking the timer to make it fully functional. so i have to manually turn the fan off and on. but the bottom line is that the zx injector fan fixed the problem of rough hot starts for me.

did you by any chance buy this one that was on craigslist? http://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/cto/2761371632.html the headlights on it are pointing to the sky but it looks fairly good for anything thats been sitting in waimea for a while. As for parts i use ebay for everything. you're not going to find any parts for that on the island or hawaii for that matter. i'de take the windshield wiper assembly apart and clean it all up, then lube all hinge points

did somebody splice onto the inner fender? its yellow underneath from the strut tower back but a different color in the front
  6. yow, do any more kiwi's need door panels?
  7. got a killer deal on ebay. 200 bucks + shipping for a brand new set of door panels. the seller had no picture on ebay and it said 240z door panels. At this point you're probably saying "dumbass 200 bucks and no picture" BUT... i took a chance and it paid off. i researched the type of things this seller sold and it seemed to be all garage sale resale stuff. sometimes there are some real gems at garage sales opened the box today and to my surprise they were for the 280z. The same year as my car and they are pristine. still in the original datsun dealer plastic from a dealer in alabama.

i believe he moved to the mainland. i believe he was a welder by trade and to keep employed here you need to be jack of all trades. There is an older gentleman (60's) who works at the costco gas station that owns a orange 72. he said he's owned it since new and still uses points in the distributor. Every time i gas up he's looking over my car asking me what ive done to it. My wife is japanese and she has friends that come over from japan to visit. Her nephew works for toyota in osaka and he is a car guy. He's 24 years old and i think it was the first time he had seen a fairlady (280z) in the flesh. I let him take it for a drive and you could tell he couldn't drive a clutch. It was my attempt to get another generation interested in the cars over there. He owns a toyota celsior which is like a lexus. I made the mistake of asking him how fast it went while we were going to kansai airport. It wasn't until i got home and converted kph over to mph to find out that we were going 110 mph. Another gentleman in his 50's heard that i had 2 datsuns in the garage. He had once owned one in the 80's With my limited japanese i tried explaining what i had done to the 2 cars.

For those of you who like hawaii and z cars.... Took my z to the beach today and watched the sun set into the blue pacific. Yes the a/c was on and yes it is the middle of december. Sat on the front bumper and enjoyed the moment. For those of you who know the big island the pictures were taken down by otec near the airport. The waves today were a little big and had to check that out too along with the sunset. If you're ever on the big island cruising the kohala coast and you see a black z thats me cuz i've got the only one on the island.
  10. "Then I found the cold start valve was leaking, so I replaced that too, but then discovered the thermotime switch was also bad, and was leaving the cold start open" Wrong....... a malfunctioning thermotime switch can't cause the cold start valve to stay open. It only gets voltage when the key is turned to the 'start' position. So even if it were stuck closed once the voltage was removed the csv would not have voltage to stay on. Basically there are two modes of failure of the T-time switch. Stuck open- csv will not operate at all. Stuck closed- csv will operate everytime you turn the key to 'start' regardless of temperature. first you need to read up on each efi component and how it operates and second its very very important to have EVERY connection clean. i mean shiny contacts. from the ecu down to every injector. The problem of fouled plugs is sometimes in the coolant temp. sensor circuit, . When the electrical connection to the sensor is weak, or the sensor is bad, it tells the ECU that the engine is cold and it dumps a lot of fuel into the engine.

there are aftermarket switches that are both high and low cut out. i'de install a dryer that doesn't have a pressure switch fitting and just have the 1 switch.
  12. you reversed the wiring on the temp and thermotime? to take the guesswork out of it you should test the pins and make sure that you're plugged into the right sensor.

whats the deal with the zx hood emblem? looks like thailand. probably not a factory 432 but a replica. very nice complete restoration. labor in thai is very cheap for the rich there.

i used crumpled up newspapers and wood sticks to make the cover adhere to the old dash in certain areas. the newspapers are used as padding and i propped the sticks against the seats and against the windshield on the top. it helped me "shape" the cover to fit the glove box area better but its still not a perfect fit. i had to do a little adjusting on the glove box hinge to get it to close properly. half caps are the best if you want the glove box area perfect.

a 79-83 alternator but don't know what exact year. doesn't matter though. they are interchangeable. i just installed a 70 amp on my 78 280 with a 83 turbo alternator and it had the same decal as that one does. why not just have this one repaired? looks to be in good condition from the outside. may just need new rectifier set.

you don't need an expensive gun to paint the engine compartment. if you're low on money get one of those 50$ ones at lowes or home depot. the engine compartment doesn't have to be perfect. when you get the engine, hoses and wires in there alot of the paint is covered anyways. I would be more interested in the rust prevention aspect of painting the engine compartment. you can use aluminum foil to cover hard brake and fuel lines. too much trouble using masking tape on them. that 50 buck spray gun can later become your primer gun.
  20. see if some of those symptoms go away. also could try block test kit http://www.blockchek.com/index.htm
  21. there aren't that many parts to the clutch. your could just need a good cleaning. http://www.hammondsplains.com/newtechtips/cooling/index.htm
  22. i've always just put new oil in them and or a new seal. generally and i do mean generally, beck arnley parts are good quality.
  23. teflon tape on the old switch http://www.ehow.com/how_7679602_use-teflon-tape-refrigeration-connection.html
  24. if the epoxy fails try this stuff it's thick and slimy. you have to specify which refrigerant you're using. these guys in phoenix know their stuff when it comes to auto a/c. they also have a great message board for advice on auto ac. http://www.ackits.com/c/Nylog/Nylog+O-Ring+Lubrication.html
