HLS30-00854 on Craigslist
I think the car has great potential, especially since it looks to be pretty original. I've restored different types of cars before, some all original, and others that didn't survive the 80s styling and "modifications." IMHO, I would take a little rusty, early VIN#, and original 240z over one that has been repainted, halfway torn apart, and/or an automatic any day. Even if the car wasn't salvageable, I see several good and rare parts on it that could make some profit for someone with patience. Thanks moonpup for digging this one out for us, I love seeing these old barn finds. Hopefully someone will snatch it up and bring it back to life. Chase

Front bumper, over-riders and new guard???
My override bar was installed with the rubber cut like Jim mentioned above as well. Chase

My 240z is almost done
Remove it and re-tint it with a light black tent to protect your dash (assuming it is in good condition). I've seen cars with colored tints and they look extremely "ricey" IMO.

repro window sticker
Thanks Sblake01 and mgood, I'll edit those numbers in. I believe the sticker I originally used was for a 72 510. Chase

repro window sticker
It probably is, most the new info on there was pasted on there from other stickers.

repro window sticker
After researching about making a repro window sticker I came across this thread. Thanks to the photos you guys put up I recreated my mine almost exactly. Thanks!

Sluggish Acceleration
Good idea, my Porsche had fuel delivery issues as well so I hooked up a cheap fuel pressure gauge to make sure it was getting the right amount of pressure.

The great TEXAS Z Car (and foreign Car) rally - 2011
I think I'll be towing my Z to the event. Since the car hasn't been on the road that long since the 80's, I'm playing it safe and also bringing extra parts/tools.

Sluggish Acceleration
Thanks guys for all the input! Healey, I can not remember what oil I used off the top of my head, whatever the service maunal recommends. How easy is it for the advance to move? Pulling the line off and running it doesn't do very much, which probably indicates a poorly working advance. I have a hard time even moving it by hand. Madkaw, the plug wires on it are the same green NGK wires that came with the car when I got it. Putting new ones on the car is a good idea since I don't know how old they are. If I let the car warm up in neutral, then take off to drive it, it runs great till I accelerate fairly quickly. It feels almost like I surprised the car or something. My plans are to check the timing, ponts, and check the mixtures. I'm fairly certian it has someting to do with the timing. If the problem is still there then I'll get a new set of plugs and possibly a vaccum advance. Chase

Sluggish Acceleration
Sorry about that, yes the distributor is set at proper timing.

Sluggish Acceleration
Yes, I've put brand new points and have them set to .021 according to the Haynes manual. Should I open them up more?
-
Sluggish Acceleration
Yes, the carb dampers have fresh oil in them. I have not driven the car with the choke on, it idles higher as usual and accelerates fine in neutral with it's engage.

Sluggish Acceleration
I'm in the process of making my 72 240z road worthy, and it's just about ready. However, when i try to accelerate quickly the car studders for a sec, then accelerates fairly smooth. The car will rev up easily and smoothly when in neutral, and driving it around makes the problem a little bit better. I'm kinda stumped on why it accelerates in gear the way it does. So far I have: -rebuilt ALL the fuel system -put new plugs and points -new thermostat -new fluids -Dialed in the carbs and cleaned them up That's all I can remember right now that could effect the acceleration, any help to solve this would be greatly appreciated! I would be interested in a reasonably priced z shirt.

Identifing front spoiler part numbers
Thanks guys, the description of the spoiler was one without the air ducts, so I assume it is one similar yours Arne. You're right Jim, the part number wouldn't come up for any of the main manufactures I know of, so searching for it on the internet is just about worthless. Here's a pic of one I believe is it, just so we're all on the same page. Chase

Identifing front spoiler part numbers
I met a guy who has a front spoiler for sale for the 240z. However, he didn't have it with him and had a hard time describing it to me. He said it was "Spook" styled, and bolted to the lower valance, not replacing it. Anyways he has a Nissan/Datsun part number for it and I was seeing if someone on here could figure out which spoiler he has. Thanks! Chase 240, 260Z (70-74 1/2) 2701083 - BFE FIBERGLASS AIR DAM

The Value of a 72 510
Every time I look into these cars I want one more and more. That one listed locally by me sold almost instantly, but I did meet a guy who races them in autocross and scca meets. He has a few ex-racer 510 shells that might be for sale soon. Maybe Ill go that path and make a semi-built, semi-street 510. Chase

The Value of a 72 510
E30s are the best ever! I love mine and the attention it gets. Has to be one of the best looking BMW body styles out there.

The Value of a 72 510
Five&dime it's your father's lime green one I was referring to, such a good looking car.

The Value of a 72 510
I agree with you five&dime that the 510 is more rare than s30s and can be worth quite a bit. Reguardless if the car has "collector appeal" I wouldn't be getting it with intentions of reselling for profit. I love the cars, and would not hesitate to pay 3k for one. Five&dime that 112 yellow 240z you have is absolutely amazing, I hope to restore mine to that condition. Chase

The Value of a 72 510
Thanks for the input guys, 510s are few and far between around here in TX, so finding a decent 2 door is a pretty rare thing.

The Value of a 72 510
Threehz, sounds like you've got everything covered for these little 510s. The guy wants 3k obo for it so he's not to far off.

The Value of a 72 510
I just want to hear some of the opinions you guys have here about the value of a 510. I've watched these cars easily reach 10k+ on Ebay, but most of them are swaps and track cars. What would be a good ballpark for the value of a 1972 510 2 door, 95% original including paint, and is a mechanically sound daily driver? One recently came avaliable in my area and I was wondering what they are going for normally. This isn't it, but a good reference to the condition of it. Chase

New or Old Car
To add a little happiness to this discussion..... Get a 1987-91 BMW 3-series, they're cheap, reliable, easy to work on like the Zs, good on gas, good looking, and a blast to drive. With a budget of 2500-4500 you could get a really nice one that needs little to no work. I love mine, got it for $100, yes I said $100 and drove it home. These cars are like the Civics of European cars, and I always get people asking me about mine. Plus, it's a BMW! Chase
