I'm doing an E31 now, or a machinest is. They need the bronze intake vale seats replaced with steel, very basic start. I am going with the big valves like your P79 has. If you wanted to you could have the bottom of the P79 cut to raise the compression but you'd have to raise the height of the cam with shims to compensate. Member "Dizeased" has done a few and loves them but he goes all the way with his, all new cam and valve train componets. One day I'll hopefully be able to try his build. Here's a picture of one of his.
  2. Water-rooster. LMFAO!
  3. Just make sure and put the bolts back into the same holes. It's an easy job. Take the four nuts off and remove the fan clutch with the fan still attached.
  4. If you can spin the fan more than one or two rotations by hand it's most likely bad. A new fan clutch won't even turn a complete rotation in my experiences. If it's running on the hot side (verified with thermometer in the radiator) more than 200 degrees you should have it boiled out or replaced. A shroud is tremendous help in my opinion. My temp gauge reads hot but they're known to do that. Take the cap off and stick meat thermometer in and let the thermostat open. Mine shows 175 degrees idling in the garage.

Here's the bumper brackets. I'll get some more pics when I'm around the car with a camera.
  6. Those are $20 parts at any parts store or online at amazon or rockauto. Get the cast impeller water pump, it'll last longer.

My car has the original overspray everywhere. The most obvious is the rubber that covers the wiper motor. The bumper brackets are black and orange. The gas cap flap is orange on the underside and on and on. I think it's kind of neat.

That's a fine looking car. It even has a cup holder. Looking back over that, did they come with a fire exstinguisher at the front of the driver's seat? Mine didn't have one but it's about to. That's a perfect spot.
  10. Here's the part number, http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsuns30/DatsunZIndex/Brake/HandBrake/tabid/1732/Default.aspx Here's the google results, https://www.google.com/search?q=36541-E4101&rlz=1C1BOFA_enUS494US494&oq=36541-E4101&aqs=chrome..69i57&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8 $7 from Courtesey Nissan. Just about everytime Courtesey can get something, my local Nissan dealership can too. Just make sure and have the part number before you call.
  11. If you could figure a way to get that guitar to turn the knob on a potentionmeter, that'd be cool. I've got kazoos on mine.

I used to go to New Orleans a lot and leave my BMW parked for weeks at a time in "park and pay" lots. Always pulled the coil wire off and put it in my suitcase. Center caps off the wheels went into the trunk. Luckily I never had any attempts that I could tell.
  13. Awe come on! I love Lewis Black, especially when he gets wound up enough that spit starts coming out of his mouth. Do you know what 'meteorologist' means in English? It means liar. Lewis Black
  14. I connected the heater hoses together with a 3/4" PEX coupling and put a bolt in a piece of hose for the cylinder head until I can get my heater core's valve fixed.
  15. Here's the one I went by, http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39674-77-280z-head-removal-step-by-step-photos/ That chain tensioner tool makes all the difference in the world.

$10 grand is a helluva reason to leave it parked somewhere it can be "found".
  17. If you have a ZX dizzy the cap is larger as well as the plug gap. Does it utilize the E12-80? Okay I see you have the OE dizzy. Sorry.

That thing is old and rounded out. It feels like a worn 150 maybe? And it's an air powered die/dye? Grinder. The dremel cut it fine but made a bunch of thin cuts. That flapper will cut half an inch if you're not careful. I was very happy with my reliefs. I may have drank 4 or 5 beers afterwords. This stuff makes me nervous!

I first thought about a parade.
  20. Are you putting your cursor on the picture, hold down the "S" key and right clicking it? That's a trick I read about google shortcuts. It works good most of the time for me. Go to the "original boobs thread" and try it.
  21. Look at Dizeased's in post #3. Maybe he'll reply and say what he used? http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/51171-keep-original-air-port-exhaust-manifold-or-who-cares/#entry466421
  22. There's some on e-bay, zcardepot. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-510-240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-70-83-Mag-Wheel-Lug-Nut-OEM-Genuine-Nissan-/221724557366?hash=item339fd04036&vxp=mtr

Good news, you guys are right, the machinist said the same thing. My heart fell into my shoes when I saw that pit. It made me sick to my stomach then I got to drinking away the blues and got sick to my head. He has everything now except a piston, he said he needed one for measuring a few different things. My short valve seals are on the UPS truck for delivery today so tomorrow he'll get those and a piston. All is well in my world for a few minutes. Oh yeah, I forgot to say what he said about the .190" lash pads that came with the cam. He said they send the thickest needed and that he has a way of milling the others down if they need to be shorter.

Yes I did use the flapper wheel. I tried making the exhaust a little bigger than the intake sides, the intakes barely scratch the bore. I also went down at the same angle as the valves, toward the spark plug holes. When I had the block outside I noticed a small hole in the cylinder wall. Don't have a clue as to how it got there or what to do about it. Taking everything to the machinist today. He'll tell me what can be done or not done. May end up using the .030" over F54 after all. ITM flat tops are only $200, apparently. Anyway what do y'all think? It had good compression numbers and the walls are beautiful except for this little pimple.
  25. My '79 ZX dizzy uses a different coil, 1.5 OHMS, and hotter plugs than what my '77 had before the swap. I was wondering if those 2 things and the lack of air up there would cause an incomplete burn leading to all the soot? Maybe at warm up when the idle drops they are fouling then when you run it up they burn off? I had to throw another stick in your spokes, there's not many left.
