couple of 240's in my neck of the woods
Here's somebody to call JLP. Add says he has a dash. It's 45 minutes from me, good old 2 lane country road too. I'd gladly go down and look at his stuff.

240Z questions
Do they all run hotter than 280's? Mine doesn't have the belly pan or the fan shroud my 280 has, I figured that was the reason, temp gauge needle sits on the "F". That's not too hot is it? Was on the right leg of the "M" in TEMP until I put in a new water pump and thermostat. 2nd question, why is one of the two 1/2" pipes coming out the back of my breather box tapped up? The other goes to the valve cover. Thanks for any replies.

1972 240Z books
I bought that book too Dr 240Z. Now I have all 3, How to Rebuild by Tom Monroe, How to Modify by Horwitz, How to Restore by Humble. A lot of the same info but couldn't live without them right now, one's in my bedroom, one in bathroom and one on my coffee table. Now I need that Z Therapy Dvd for the carbs.

couple of 240's in my neck of the woods
I'm going to go look for sure if they're still available. Send me a PM of your parts list and I'll get pictures of them. I need some things too, maybe we could work out something. I could meet you at Tennesee/ Kentucky line or whatever is half way. I've got access to double axle trailer and 2500 GMC. Maybe one for you and one for me?

If it ever quits raining I could go take a look and see them up close. Maybe this weekend? I'll pull a Paparazzi flash bomb on them.

Shifter Pivot Bushing
You could put the shifter in a vice then use something shaped like a V, needle nose pliers, and tap it with a small hammer. Seems like mine came off pretty easy, there greasy already. Andrew's idea sounds better than pliers.

Fury-new member from Florida East Coast
This is what I've been using and it's fairly easy, leaves a black coating over the rust spots. SEM Products 69504 Rust Mort Rust Preventive Coating Black 1 Qt Each | eBay Look at the pics in post #2. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-zcar-discussion/48337-280z-rebuild-ground-up.html He has some new metal from Tabco. I am going to do some research on those myself as I need the plate at the back of hatch replaced. Here's Tabco's site http://www.tabcobodyparts.com/html/table_of_contents.htm scroll down until Datsun 240,260,280. Pretty good prices it looks like. Click on the camera icon to see the part. Welcome aboard too.

A/C compressor not in use. Remove Belt?
I have air condition systems in my 2 Z's. I don't want to run them so should the compressor turn or not? Keep them spinning so they want freeze up? Or take the belt off and let them rest until I want two use them. It gets hot down here so I might want them operational someday. Thanks.

What to do?
Hey Mike do think a piece of 3/8" or 1/2" clear hose cut in half would work? That's all I can think of besides doing something major. Maybe use "Gorilla Glue" to attach them? I'm temporarily fixing the rust spots until I can have it painted and don't want to do it again.

Starts right up, then falls on its face.
I'll quote from my favorite show, Sanford & Son. Fred says "If he keeps on drinking them beers he's going to have to get off that couch", Lamont says "Pop! the simplicity of it. Why didn't I think of that?" Fred says " cause you ain't simple minded like me."

What to do?
The last 4" of the rain channel, left & right sides, of my hatch are open to the rain. It dumps right where they rust :stupid:. Does anyone know of a way to stop that besides not driving on rainy days or washing the car. Carry a towel?

Idles rough, but runs good when giving it gas.
Could be a loose or cracked vacuum line or AFM boot. Throttle body might need cleaning also.

1972 240Z books
Thanks Blue. I remember reading that datsungarage.com. And I've ordered that modifying book. I have to keep my priorities in line though, '77 is still my #1. I did take some pictures but I think my cameras crapping out. Anyway the 240 runs great and is fun to drive on the back roads.
