I used a Winchester gun cleaning kit from Walmart after it was vatted at a machine shop. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Winchester-Universal-Cleaning-Kit-24pc/20595702. Worked great.

Sounds like your going to need a fuel pressure gauge. They're cheap money instead of guessing or replacing parts that aren't bad. The inlet port on the pump, if it's a Bosch OE, has a cone shaped screen filter smaller than a thimble in it. I used tweezers to get mine out. They're real fragile if they're OE. Blast it with carb cleaner if it's dirty. Your about to be over my head and need the pros.

What Andrew said about that cone filter going into the fuel pump. Is it clean? That G3 out of the tank should be full. On my early '77 you can unhook that small flat connector on the starter and turn on the switch and my pump will run. If it's running take off the line before the rail and see what kind of flow you have, into a jug or something.
  4. Yes. A small flat head screwdriver on either side works best for me. Usually just get one side popped out and the connector will slide off.
  5. How come your finger nails aren't all nasty? You must have a hand model for the pictures. Just messing with ya'! You do some amazing things Captain.
  6. Crud? That's a pretty broad description. What'd that crud smell like ?

Odd color but I've always liked those cars. Dated a girl that's Dad had a TR8. That thing was quick! Only got to drive it when he would go out of town.
  8. Thats the Thermal vacuum switch. I broke mine too. There around $20 at Advance I think, used on many cars too. Couldn't get mine out so I did away with that whole coolant plate but I've no smog monsters here in Alabama. google it. glue it back in just don't stop up the hole. should pass, thing switches from ported vacuum to manifold vacuum after it heats up, I THINK. Not positive on that though

I too rolled mine in 5th with the plugs out and it worked good but for $15 dollars at Autozone the trigger style remote starter is great. When you point the lobes up remember the motor leaning to the passenger side. I did mine straight up the first few times before I realized they kept needing to be adjusted.
  10. Your photo name is all I got too, "what the hell".
  11. Valvoline VR1 for the rebuilt 280, Castrol 10W30 GTX in everything else. 297,000 on a '87 Nissan Hardbody pickup, 240,000 on a 2000 Toyota Camry, 1000 hours on Briggs & Stratton Vanguard powered Exmark mower. Replaced timing belt on the Camry at 175,000, timing chain will hopefully get done this winter on my truck. No other problems just maintenance stuff. I don't like to buy new cars. Just bragging a little bit, thanks!
  12. Just to add to what you don't want to hear, my mechanic says "No synthetic oil in the L motors".

I'm in that crowd too! Like Chase says, flat side upward and it should have an arrow pointing towards the injectors. I am not sure it would flow upside down? There's no stupid questions on cars that are older than you or your kids.
  14. Hey Blue have you tried "searchtempest"? It' a craigslist search engine you enter your zip code or your friends in Florida. http://www.searchtempest.com/

I think you'll be fine. I don't remember installing that being a pain in the butt and I don't use anything but the filter, not those short hoses or those cheap clamps. Red Kote says when you can't smell the fumes it's cured. But a good baking on a sunny day with the holes all opened up would be good, you don't want to do it again. That's the good thing about those filters, if it's not fully cured I think you'd see reddish gas in it right away before it went through the pump and into your fuel system. You could pull the hose off the filter under the hood and let it run in to a clear jar for a few seconds just to make sure before it goes farther.

I'm pretty sure I used the same hose that was there. I remember one of the hoses was larger in diameter and wasn't sure if it would seal off, but it did. I wish I could put up a picture for you but my car's not available for glamour shots right now, sorry. I just googled images for it. Check these out. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Fram+G3+on+280Z&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bpcl=38093640&biw=1280&bih=620&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=Li2eUOqPLMmr2AW1uYG4CA
  17. You'd get both new o rings with Standard FJ707's from rockauto.com, about $150 for six. I've got them on mine and naturally they made a tremendous improvement over my mismatched set. Some where brown the others light green. Just saying...?

That's horrible. I hope the wife and mother doesn't read this.

That sounds great! I ran down stairs to take a picture of the Fram G3 filter location and quickly realized the cars not here :stupid:. The line coming straight from the tank is like a 3/8's hose and the one going into the pump is smaller so be ready for that, maybe have some different size clamps. Put it between the tank and the fuel pump. I use needle nose vise grips to clamp off the line straight out of the tank so you won't get doused with fuel, but wrap a rag or use two small popcicle like pieces of wood so you won't tear into the hose with the vise grips. You can buy those filters at Walmart for $3 or $4 bucks. I don't have a pic of the tank filter but here is my glass filter right before the fuel rail. Never has it been dirty or pink looking. That G3 plus the OE filter, which is huge, are enough I just overkill everything. Glad you got that done without any problems. Saved $$$$.

I went DIY myself. Spent the extra money on other stuff.

I put on a new G3 filter when I change the oil. Only twice so far though but they're cheap. Like above says cheap insurance for all the new injectors and fuel pump I put on.

A piece of wire will work for the lines to be sure they're not clogged up. That kind you use for wire welding or electric fencing. I wouldn't go jamming a cloths hanger through there.

I have the trigger remote starter that clips on the starter bypassing the switch and the fuel injection. Sorry I didn't mention that. I was thinking the flap in the mouth of the throttle body would let more air in and increase the compression reading.
  25. I'd like to see what the ZX looks like and the 260 too. Come on in! Cliff
