My my my how the world turns. Before I carried Zup's "pay it forward" mirror assembly to get the glass removed for installation into my car's housing I stopped by my local Nissan dealership to ask what he thought. The parts manager has taken me in like a bastard child of his. He looked up the mirror and wrote down the part number. Said they had 23 in Memphis if I broke Zup's and needed one, $115 plus tax was my price. I declined and he suggested the same glass shop I was going to use for the removal. They still have it. I just got a call from the parts guy, somehow he mistakenly ordered a mirror. Said he wrote down the P/N on his order pad and at the end of the day it got ordered. So now he has a brand new mirror assembly but if he sends it back he has to pay a restocking fee which we don't need to do. He's taken good care of me over the past few years for parts on my old Zs. I told him to keep it, I would buy it to keep the owner off our arse. $90 plus tax. I'll put the new one on when I fix the lock so I can go to see Arkansas's Jims at Chunkey Monkey's in Branson.
  2. I'm not trying to sell you my wires. I put that up for you to see how long mine were and show how you can tuck them under the battery tray. Any auto parts store should have a 24" negative battery cable.
  3. Perfect! You nailed it.
  4. 24 inches is plenty. You can tuck and hide the extra wire. Mine have been replaced too. I see now I have room to go to an opposite post battery. Get the hot out from under the fender.
  5. All the Z specialty shops should have one. You found autozone.com I said rockauto.com then there's always amazon.com. Measure your old one and I'll measure mine. Report back with results.
  6. I believe that's how our Arkansas Jims got their Zs.
  7. Looks good to me. I think I see where lobes were sitting on the rocker pads? No big deal though, that'll wear right off when it's running. Spray bar looks good, springs are all in place, you have a nice car from what I can tell. That 'rats nest' of crap around the carbs will clean up nicely and look much better. @Zup will be your new hero. He has a '73 we all kinda claim because it has won so many awards while wearing a Classic Z Cars "club jacket". Jim's (Zup} '73...
  8. Here's a good read if you haven't seen it before. It suggest the lighter 240 body but was written years ago when they were somewhat plentiful. http://datsunzgarage.us/engine/
  9. I bought my orange one in or around Cullman too. Some guys at Alabama Mustang had it trying to get it running for some doctor that lived on Smith Lake. EDIT: They tried to fix it but couldn't so they bought it really cheap then I bought it from them. They couldn't figure out the carbs and never got it running. When I got it home...
  10. I guessed that! Auburn sticker on a 240Z, pharmacist. I know a guy in Vinemont that knows Zs inside and out. Whether he'll work on it is a different story though. He has a paint shop off a main highway, 157 maybe??? Anyway he's full of knowledge and likes to talk about Zs when he has time. If you do call him tell him you got his number from the guy that bought his red with white interior '72. Ray at Rays Restorations, 256-399-1077. If you haven't yet, don't try and crank it. You'll just crud up the fuel system. A 2 gallon gas jug will work and bypass the old fuel in the tank. Those older SUs are better to me, the float ears are the same length front and rear which makes set-up a lot easier. I'm on here everyday and more than willing to help when I can. Might ride over one day and try that "outlaws wine". We have a good brew house here, Auburn boys too, Back Forty Beer. You probably know them. Here's my OE 3 screw float lids. Longer in the front for going uphill and accelerating, keeps the bowl from overflowing but is a PITA to set the floats. I put two rear float bowl lids on mine and made life easier for a change. EDIT: Just read Jonathon's post, great advice. When you take the valve cover make sure the oil spray bar is good and healthy, not all loose or even worse broken. Cover the valve train with motor oil. take a picture of it too. These guys can tell if you have a gnat's footprint on the cam.
  11. It's money in the bank if you can keep it. They've doubled or tripled in value for the last few years.
  12. I just saw the photo link.
  13. Nice car. I agree with the rest, get it running then decide. Restaurants take all your time plus DAMN, 8,500 sq ft! I'd hate to close that every night. What do the carbs look like? Dual Webers I bet.
  14. I would suggest a 280Z. Many more and their value versus the bucks you'll spend hasn't risen like the 240s. Once you get the bumpers off they're pretty much the same body. If you plan a motor swap it's a mainly insignificant detail in my opinion. 240s have lower gearing to, you'll save some $$ with a 280 5 speed plus the r200 differential.
  15. rockauto.com has a lot of information and part numbers for '72 240Z battery cables. There is a difference from 6/72 to 7/72 also manual or automatic. Not sure what it is. Happy researching.

  17. That looks great 240dkw, thank you. My problem is the one mounted onto the car. If I'm successful getting the good mirror out without breaking it I'll most likely have to remove the door card to get the good housing off so I can work with it without damaging my car. 99 problems...
  18. Mine came with both rubber seals and a hose clamp. Here's the thread if you want to read a little. On the FPR. I put a fuel rail I built that needed a single inlet like the '78s have. I'm pretty sure it came from rockauto for $70 something or another.

The glass is beveled around the edge then the metal is rolled over that.

I'm betting along those odds myself. Zup will come down here and slap me upside the head if I break it. Coming in from the back was an idea but they have a rubber back pad glued to the mirror. I've already called my local Nissan parts guy and they have plenty for some reason. But no windshield wipers.

Trico 44-180 refills fit both my cars very good. $8 at O'reilly's. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/trico-5077/wiper-blade-motor-16494/wiper-blades-25089/wiper-refill-12826/83ee6f490634/trico-18-inch-natural-rubber-wiper-refill/44180/4748890/1977/nissan/280z

I have a good housing on my 240 but the mirror is broken. I've taken all the pieces out and now have a round stick-on from a chain store stuck in there. Fortunately a "gift horse" smiled and showed his teeth. The fronts looked like new but the rears showed their age. Zup sent me a good mirror with a dented housing behind it. I need to transfer the glass mirror he sent to my car. I thought I could get it out fairly easy with these but it did not work so good and now I nervous about breaking the mirror and the 7 years of bad luck that go along with that. Putting it back in will (should) be easier with a good round piece of hardwood, a section of an old mop handle from the restaurant is what I was thinking.

Yep and it's not going too well. I can't get the rolled over chrome off the good glass. I've decided to take it to an auto glass shop. Scared I'll break it.
  24. Those green ones on ebay,fj3 I think, are on a few cars on here and well liked. I bought Standard fj707t I think from rockauto.com and they do very well too.
