4/75 Datsun 280Z; Leaf Green, CA market, 250K miles, Long Term Project 03/2023-
What is it that welders put an oven to heat up before welding? My Dad's welder guy had a refrigerator and an oven in his shop when I was a kid, WTH? I asked, welding rods in the fridge and the oven was to bring up the temp on some kind of metal before he started working on it. That's something I never learned, like playing guitars, that I regret. Practice, practice, practice...

280z with AC engine belts
It's about as difficult as changing out the spark plugs. Loosen the compressor on the bracket, push it towards the motor. Loosen the alternator on the bracket, push it towards the motor. Take the belts off. Take the belts to an auto parts store. They will measure the length and get you replacements. Put the new ones on and use something like a broom handle to pry the alternator and a/c compressor away from from the motor to tighten. I get them tight enough that they will twist about a quarter turn. Check the tightness after you've driven your car some. It's easy.

SU Carb Choke Cable Adjustment
This is about the best tutorial I've ever seen. It's a 280 which is a little more difficult than pulling the head on a 240.

78 280z rack stopper rubber ?
I remember that. Some of the guys said they don't have it or use one.

280Z rebuilt fuel system - engine just stops!!!
There's a simple way to check that metal filter up front but they are only $20 so couldn't hurt replacing it anyway. Try pinching the fuel hose before the metal fuel filter by the charcoal cannister on the passenger's side. It should be as hard as a rock on the bottom hose going into the filter and just as stiff up top coming out of the filter.

SU Carb Choke Cable Adjustment
Yes, simple questions as always. Why are we on choke cables now?

Tank to pump hose routing
This is easy to do if you already have a gauge spliced in. I put about 4ft of 5/16 hose between the fitting and the gauge. Unscrewed the gauge from the fitting, put the hose on the fitting with a good clamp, shoved the gauge into the other end of the hose and put on another EFI clamp. Zip tied it to driver's wiper arm and drove around for a day or two. Put the PSI numbers on here.

These are important. Pull them apart and shine the connections up, maybe some dialectic grease too. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/runningrich/bullets.jpg

What year 240z had this seat belt strap - holder?
I "hoovered" that picture off the internet from the comfort of my recliner so I don't have a clue. The release button sticks up farther than my '89 325's did if I remember right from 20 years ago. Seems like it was flush with the housing?

What year 240z had this seat belt strap - holder?
My '72 has those for the female lock like this picture. It's a 69,000 something or another VIN.

And where the EGR tube connects to the intake manifold. Mine came loose and rotted a hole in the aluminum.

synthetic leather vs real leather
Here's something you might find useful. I think they're synthetic though but a good read when you have time.

Try pinching the fuel hose before the metal fuel filter by the charcoal cannister on the passenger's side. It should be as hard as a rock on the bottom hose going into the filter and just as stiff up top coming out of the filter. Easy way to check that filter. I had a clogged up filter and it would run for a few minutes then after the sediment fell back down it would run again but only for a few minutes. Good luck finding your gremlin.

Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
Mine is a Jefferson county, Birmingham plate, and I'm in Etowah County. They do it by population for the 1st. 2nd 3rd or 4th counties are 1,2,3 and 4 then it goes to alphabetic. So mine is #1 Jefferson county but I live in #31 county. Our only requirement is an original tag made by a prisoner in between rapes.

Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
You must keep a current tag in the car? That's kind of silly if you ask me, redundant. Georgia has some high DMV taxes, all those roads...sheesh! The tags are 5 years right? after inspection? Sweet hell Alabama.

Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
Does Georgia have "year of make" tag option? I've got an original from 1972 tag on my 240. Traded Dr Tag front and rear Texas plates from 1965 for a pristine 1972 Alabama plate.

That orange is a peach, it's a state symbol maybe even the state fruit although Governor Kemp is pretty fruity.

- [2025] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
5 weeks since surgery and it's still pretty sore. Really depends on what I do. Therapy one day, rest the next and then back for more. I'm doing a lot at home with a recumbent bike and weight bench with a leg lift I bought years ago to hang clothes on. Now they're my nemeses just like the upstairs garage apartment I've loved for so many years. The doctors say I'm halfway, 12 weeks is their recommendation for release but say it could take up to a year to feel like it never happened. Haven't taken a pain pill in 2 weeks, not saying I wouldn't take one the size of a Frisbee right this minute but the OTC Aleve plus herb(s) are working great. Happy New Year Mark and Kathy!- [2025] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Trickle charging batteries for New Years Day driving. Need to burn 2024 fuel. It's going to be a lot of driving close to home.- How To Adjust Choke Cable In A 72 240Z
Look at this. If the button isn't being pushed in enough you could use small flat washers on the back side of the hold down screws, "stacking" to make up the needed space. It's not easy to do and you could break things that are expensive. The electric cleaner would not hurt but I don't think it will fix your problem. Good luck! https://jdm-car-parts.com/products/datsun-240z-series-2-choke-lever-switch-nos?srsltid=AfmBOoonlV4vSHqd1ekQnh3Qs3rjXDit_l_c3hA_4Jn0dlFKCKikVCQ0- HLS 30 hub caps
EDIT: 60 grit sandpaper is too rough for anything on your Z. That's what painters call "floor paper". It's for sanding hardwood floors. Here's the best I've seen with paint you can buy at a chain store. Many thanks @CanTechZ - [2025] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
