Hi all, Thank you cuong, it'd be great to try to get as much of the history as possible! well, unfortunately the A$ got a bit stronger just as I was about to pay for the car.. but I still think it is quite a steal for the type of car I'm getting, for example a nice rally replica car is for sale in our Z club magazine.. for £11,400! about A$29,700 !!!! :stupid:

Thanks Cuong, Ben has been really great through all the hassles of export, he has also photocopied the series of articles, but thanks for the offer. What would be useful would be issue numbers though, so I could post on a few of the other Australian forums and see if I could get hold of them! A few things have been changed since the articles, a more drivable ceramic clutch (used to be a 6 puck solid type) has been fitted which I'm quite happy about!

well yes - I know its a bit risky... but then buying a car in general is always so in my opinion.. It's very difficult to tell if anything has been carefully hidden, as I have found from previous experience! I just have to keep my fingers crossed to some extent At least with this car I've had excellent photographic history, and a good history of the mechanical work, which has all been done by reputable shops. If you want to check it out have a look at http://www.blkmgk.com and look up the full 8 articles! Unfortunately all the zoom mags have been sold out for a while so if anyone knows where I might be able to get hold of them it would be MUCH appreciated. on a different note I think it is a bit of a sad fact that here in the UK virtually no-one is willing to do such work to the cars, like they do in oz. A lot of people seem to be hung up on if a car is modified it must be a super samuri, or somehow its worth less. In fact the car shows used to (do they still?) have a super samuri category, but not a modified category!?! Also anything out of the ordinary such as Jap spec cars, unusual engine/brake setups etc. seem to be shunned and derided! :dead: phew! (getting off soapbox) thanks all, phil

well, after a long time the zoom project car (1jz-gte engine) is on its way to me, on a very long boat trip! I'm sure there will be some more fun to come when it arrives getting registered and through customs etc though! Have a look at my gallery for some recent pics, the car now produces 200kw at the wheels @ 11psi (on an aussie dyno), which can be set up to about 14-15 psi. Should be fun!! if anyone has any questions about the car let me know, I've tried my hardest to find out as much as I can. thanks to doco for giving me the contact! cheers all.

Got to see the Datsuns and D4 whilst they were touring in the UK, It's good to see real entertaining live bands again. They actually look as if they are enjoying it and putting their all into gigs! Someone did a short review of them on my website along with the bellrays actually.. check it out in the bands section. http://www.phlem.org.uk/Fanzine/ Talking of garage bands though, has anyone heard of 'the stems' or 'the stairs'? Have to listen to radio birdman, heard good things about them! Personally I don't care if it's all been done before, as long as they are doing it well! :classic:

Cool screensaver made by my mate at work. just don't look in the bottom left-hand corner :cheeky: cheers, phil 240z_v1.zip
  16. Thanks for the great responses, I guess I'm going to have to get into a bit more research! I think I went a bit over the top saying I wanted to create a replica, I just like the way that the japanese style their cars, not just old racers, but cars like the wangan midnight car (if there is a 'real' one?).. which looks incredible. I think my car will have to 'evolve' over the next couple of years, as expenses allow! with respect to links, here are a few I have found so far, and they seem to have good link sections too! http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~s30/13192749/ http://plaza.across.or.jp/~kazu-mac/index.html http://www.sun-inet.or.jp/~akiras/240zg/z1.html PS this forum always makes me so envious, both Alan and Cuong's cars are incredible. PPS anyone know what the RB26 powered S30 cars go for in Japan when they are auctioned???
  17. I love the look of this car, and having decided to keep my 240z I have decided to try to transform it into a Japanesque racer. (hope no-one minds me posting this pic) Does anyone have any more pics of this style car, I have seen the le mans cars. Having to keep the cost as low as possible though, I can't keep it as authentic as I would like, I would just like to capture the style of the cars. To this end I have sourced some headlight covers (unfortunately without chrome) from the US and found bolt-on flares are available from MJP in the UK. Has anyone seen these, are they any good? I'm now looking for a suitable airdam/spoiler and cannot decide between the commonly used (in japan) un-vented one, or a vented one like Motosports sells...Can the lemans style ones be sourced? I'd also like to know whether these cars make use of fibreglass panels much? I myself am thinking of changing to fibreglass bonnet and wings (fenders).. again any opinions? Sorry for the broad nature of this post, just trying to get as much info as possible at the moment! Thanks all! PhilUK
