  1. Thanks for the answers guys, glad to see I'm on the right track. Did some more checking, looks like Redline MT-90 does have more positive reviews, although the reviews on Royal Purple aren't bad either. Already have purchased the Royal Purple, but don't mind spending another $30 getting some Redline if it is better. I'll let y'all know how it turns out.....
  2. Need some help with a diagnosing an issue I'm having with my Z. Background on the car: 78 280Z 5 speed, 30K miles, new clutch, pressure plate, tranny fluid and clutch master cylinder about 800 miles ago. Shifting from 1st to 2nd the shift is notchy and grinds a little, especially when the car is cold. Shifts into all other gears fine. The 1st to 2nd shift improves once the cars warms up, but it's still not 100% smooth. No throwout bearing noises or anything else abnormal. My next steps are getting the clutch adjusted, as the pedal is about an inch closer to the floor than it should be per the FSM. Tried getting to the adjustments myself, just can't quite get to them as I'm not a small guy. I've also picked up some Royal Purple tranny fluid as it's supposed to improve shifting and I do not know what fluid was put in by the previous owner when he did the mechanical restoration. Am I on the right track or missing something?
  3. Discovered that the alternator had gotten loose. Tightened it up, and was amazed how the voltage climbed from near 12V to over 14V on the gauge. That explains why it seemed like the battery kept losing its charge, the car was running off of the battery only....
  4. If one of those bidders that bid $15K showed up with a Cashier's check for that amount at my front door I'd sign over that title in less than 2 minutes.....
  5. My guess is he's got at least $16K reserve...........
  6. About where I figured, been monitoring similar Zs for about 8 months. Trouble is they all end around 13K with reserve not met. The sellers really need to go back and research similar auctions. Still pleased with the 11K I paid for mine, it was fair for both.....
  7. $11,500 and reserve not met with a little more than a 1-1/2 days to go....at this point it's past the price I paid for mine.
  8. ...and you've hit my dilemma exactly!! My Z does need a repaint, so do I take an original 30K car and repaint and keep it original with the railroad crosstie bumpers, or do I "convert" it to the smaller bumpers and not keep it original????
  9. Thanks! Looks the same as mine. So, it looks like Datsun put a dress up plastic panel on the driver side but not on the passenger....interesting!
  10. Does anyone with a '78 280Z have a good picture of what the passenger kick panel should look like? My driver's side has a black plastic cover, however on the passenger side there is nothing but the fusebox surrounded by black fiberboard.
  11. Agree, it's one that's almost there. Reminds me a lot of mine when I first saw her (on ebay as well). Mine's a 78 with only 30K miles, but condition is real similar. Biggest detractor on mine is the need for a paint job, which is not visible in the pics below that came from the auction: It will be interesting to see what the '77 goes for.....
  12. Nice looking Z, looks like everything was done right......except they used some non-galvanized screws to reattach the VIN plate instead of rivets!!!! What a way to end an auction.......
  13. Finally, 4 months to the day I won her on ebay, I finally got the title from the seller. She is finally titled and registered in my name!!!
  14. Took here to work for the first time, as it was a nice crisp sunny day. Many oohs and aahs were heard as I showed her off during the day.

I just got done putting some 205/60/15s on my 78z with 15x7 wheels. That combo has the same diameter as the stock 195/70/14s.
